E120/E80 crash with Platinum+ cartridge

$

I've been using my E120 (cockpit) and E80 (Nav station below) pair since our boat was built in 2007. I'd love to upgrade to more modern radar and displays but the honest answer is that these do everything I need them to do and so its tough to justify an upgrade.

On this years vacation, however, I was moving up Vineyard Sound towards woods [censored] (in the fog) when the E120 crashed. When it came up, it crashed again. And again.. In case it was an integration/Communications issue, I went below deck and shut down the E80. Still crashed. What now?

I pulled the Navionics platinum plus cartridge (904P+ NE and the Canyons) and sure enough, it stayed up. Assuming that the cartridge might be bad, I put in an old Platinum (but not P+) cartridge and, again, it stayed up. Now I could at least get where I was going in the fog.

I called Raymarine on this. After verifying that my firmware was the latest version (5.69) the tech's best thinking was that the data on the card for that particular area (generally Woods [censored], MA and Martha's Vineyard) was beyond what could be held in the physical memory of the unit (512MB) and thus the problem.

I can believe the technical statements being made, but its unclear why its crashing on this years trip to the islands and didn't cause problems on prior trip. I don't believe the cartridge and the firmware have changed in 2-3 years.

Has anyone else run into this? If so, what did you do?

lowrance elite 9 chirp will not send navigation data to autopilot

Installed a new EVO-200 autopilot on boat and connected Lowrance Elite 9 chirp combo GPS/sonar unit via NMEA 2000 to seatalk ng using cable A06045. The autopilot communicates with the Lowrance unit and vice versa. The pilot gets GPS data and Lowrance unit gets heading data. All devices can be seen on pilot diagnostics and Lowrance nmea 2000 network. The pilot will also do fishing patterns with no issue. The problem is when you put in a go-to on the Lowrance unit and hit track on the pilot, the pilot says "no navigation data" and will not track. This is the third or fourth Lowrance unit this has happened with. Lowrance says it's a Raymarine Problem (go figure, right). Any suggestions? I was a certified raymarine installer that is now retired, so I have a good grip on the systems.

Testing a speed though water instrument transducer

$

To test a speed through water instrument transducer:
- Verify that the transducer’s paddle wheel is free of marine growth and rotates freely on its shaft
- Power down the instrument
- Disconnect the GREEN and SHIELD transducer leads from the instrument display or instrument pod.
- Connect a multimeter to the GREEN and SHIELD transducer leads and configure the multimeter to measure continuity or resistance.
- Slowly rotate the transducer paddle wheel by hand. Note that as the paddlewheel is rotated, the multimeter should alternate between an open circuit and a closed circuit with each quarter turn. As such one complete revolution of the paddle wheel should open and close the circuit four times.

Should the multimeter respond as indicated above, then the speed sensor element of the transducer would be deemed operational and the instrument should be serviced. Should the multimeter not respond as indicated above, then the speed sensor element of the transducer would be deemed to not be operational and the transducer should be replaced. Should the housing be in good shape, then it would be recommended that Gemeco (Airmar's US distributor) be contacted to order a replacement speed/temp insert for the model of instrument transducer which is installed onboard the vessel

Help with my A57D

I have an A57D model that I recently obtained from an estate sale but did not come with a power cable. I am trying to rig it just to test for power, but do not know the correct configuration of the pos. and neg. pins. The photo I have attached here shows the PWR/NMEA port with 11 pins (2 in the middle I assume are +/-). Can anyone tell me which is which so I can rig to a battery? Also would reversing them fry the components inside? I am trying to avoid this at all costs.

Please respond assap - thank you in advance.

I recently purchased a boat equipped with a C120W chart plotter. During the sea trial I noticed some of the labels on the screen had double images. Otherwise everything appears normal. I'd like to know what is causing these double images and how to fix it. I'd prefer not to do a hard reset unless I can be sure the existing tracks can be safely backed up. Thanks!

a65 Touch Screen set up

Hello, I recently purchased a new boat (2015 model) that has a A65 mulitfuction touchscreen display. After spending countless hours reading about the capabilities of this little unit I wanted to try some of them. I would like to hook up a fish finder and I would like to hook it up to my mercruiser 5.0 MPI. However I am very confused when I start reading about how to go about this. First I would like to know what cables or starter kit I would need to purchase to get the engine talking to the Raymarine display. Then how do I go about adding the fish finder. Like I stated before, I have searched and searched, I found all kinds of info but still not sure exactly what I would need. It seems like it would be a pretty nice set up if I can figure it out. Thanks for the help

AIS650 and GPM400 operation

Hello

My AIS650 shows many contacts with their GPS position; which is cool. But, is there a quick away to navigate the GPM400 chart to their position?

I try to find a quick way to navigate to the contact of interest. It seems like there is no quick way. If I want to see where they are on the map, I have to painfully scrolled to their position.

I would be very happy if there is away.

C90w saving route, tracks etc

I have a c90w and need to do a software update but need to save the routes, waypoints, tracks etc before updating. Unfortunately each time I try saving the information to a CF card I get a message that the Save Failed. In talking with tech support they advised using a smaller CF card (tried 512mb to 3GB cards and none worked). Not sure why this would be an issue but l've tried 4 different cards including a card from RadarMarine. Each with the same, failure to save result.

I've also tried saving with the card in / out of the card reader and with the MFD powered on and off.

Any suggestions?
Thanks
Frank

QUANTUM Radar Dome not recognized

Just bought in March the es127 and es9" touch screen MFD, as well as a RayStar 130 and the new Quatum Radar. I have the es12 installed, and ran the two cables (power and data) and when I connected the data cable to the MFD, all I got was an error message :Unable to recognize Quantum Radar. Now, if I leave it connected to the MFD, go to the radar arch and disconnect the power lead to the radar dome and reconnect, it will recognize the until until I shut it down. Then I have to go through the same PITA process again! My MFD software is current, version 17.45.

Thank you!

Both E80's rebooting when SR100 comes on

I posted this earlier today but it is not showing up so here goes again;
I have two E80's with a DSM300, a SR100, raymarine radar, a network switch and integrated with a Simrad AP16 autopilot. The system was working fine until recently when all of a sudden both E80's started to reboot and if left unattended they would constantly reboot again and again etc. I narrowed the culprit to the SR100 whereas when the SR100 is powered off all is fine but when on the E80's go into the continuous reboot. The software version for the E80's is 5.52. Any suggestions?

Thank you

ST1000+/ST600R troubleshooting

$

My ST600R has an error that states "no line". The unit is probably 6-7 years old. The remote powers up fine. I assume the data feed from the tiller is the problem. The St1000 tiller unit is working fine. It is a simple system (tiller unit and remote directly connected with the "three pin" socket).

I checked all mechanical connections and cleaned up a few - still no luck. How do I troubleshoot this? Is there a way for me to check if the tiller unit is putting out the proper signal (from the #4 pin position)? I assume it's an analog signal, is it just a voltage measurement?

If I determine the remote is dead, can I upgrade to the S100 for this simple system or do I need to go through my instruments (new i70, i60)/seatalk network with the S100?

Thanks in advance,

OK, we got the EV-400 Sail installed this weekend. So much simpler than the old ST! But we need to ID our old pump so we can configure this thing. Can you look at the photos and tell us what we might have? Thanks in advance,

Bill

I had a C120 unit which went bad. My VHF radio worked fine. I replaced the C120 with a C127 unit and now my VHF radio does not work. It turns on I get my squelch and when I key the mic I get the TX in the corner but no response. I tried many channels including the distress channels with no response. Its a Ray 49 VHF radio. Id like to know if the radio needs to be hooked up to the C127 unit. If so can you give me some guidance.

C90W AIS Target Display

Hi. I have a C90W on my sailboat connected to SH 2150. Both were installed new 4 years ago. Recently I have noticed something strange. When the plotter is zoomed in...say to 1/4 mile range....the AIS targets disappear. I still get the "dangerous target" alarms and screen pop up, but no AIS info. If I zoom out, everything is normal. This never used to happen. Any ideas?

VHF reception problem

$

It is not necessary for a DSC VHF radio to be interfaced to a source of GPS data to receive VHF radio transmissions from other stations or receive weather channel transmissions. However VHF reception problems may be caused by a number of items including:

- low battery level
- poor/corroded radio power leads
- insufficient power wire gauge
- a failure of the VHF antenna
- a failure of VHF antenna cable
- corrosion and/or failure of the antenna's PL-259 connector
- a failure of a antenna splitter (if installed)
- a failure within the VHF radio's receiver circuitry

Before sending one's VHF radio in for service, one may fault isolate the problem by:
- fully charging the batteries and afterwards attempting to duplicate the problem while the vessel remains connected to shore power
- inspecting the power connections between the radio and power distribution panel for tight, electrically sound connections which are free of corrosion.
inspecting the power connections between the batteries and the electrical distribution panel for tight, electrically sound connections which are free of corrosion.
- inspecting the gauge of wire used for extending the VHF radio power leads and the wires supplying power to the power distribution panel. Information addressing how to select the correct gauge wire is available from the ABYC, NMEA and other sources.
- inspecting the VHF cable for kinks, sharp radius bends, or other signs of damage
- inspecting the antenna's PL-259 connector for sign of corrosion, damage to the center conductor, or poor shield connection
- verifying whether the VHF radio can receive when a weather channel supporting the vessel's geographic location has been selected ... if so, the the VHF radio's receiver circuitry would be deemed to be operational
- testing the currently installed VHF antenna using a VSWR meter or testing the VHF radio using another VHF antenna. A good antenna with its cable assembly will have a VSWR between 1.0:1 - 2.0:1.

Note: If the vessel is not already outfitted with second VHF antenna or an emergency VHF antenna, then it is recommended that the vessel be so outfitted for safety purposes.

Should the above listed tests not identify the source of the problem, then the VHF radio should be sent to Raymarine’s Product Repair Center to be bench checked / serviced or replaced should the VHF radio not longer be able to be serviced.

Whereas VHF radios are considered a primary item of boating safety equipment, Raymarine recommends regular inspection and testing of VHF radios by their owners. Raymarine recommends that prior to each journey, the vessel operator perform a routine Ship to Ship or Ship to Shore call to ensure that the vessel's VHF communications system is functioning properly. Vessels equipped with a DSC VHF radio should ensure that the marine electronics system is supplying the VHF radio is being with the vessel's lat/lon coordinates by the marine electronics when testing the VHF communications system.

CP 200 settings and use

I just installed a CP 200 in my boat. I'm trying to determine how to set the range to optimize it's use. Last night in 22-40ish' of water I was setting the range for the next deepest setting. Is there a tutorial or video on how to set range and or rate. I would also like to know if the angles should be more aggressive/less aggressive for shallow water vs deep. My mounting is very poor due to all the [censored] hanging off the back of my boat at this time.

I would like to know how to set the range and ping rate for different depths. Last night fist time using this I left the rate at 100 and set the rnge for the next deepest setting but I think I need to change the range for a better look to the side. I could not find this in all of the information in the box. Is there a tutorial or video on how to optimize the unit??

2004 - SL70C Radar Pathfinder

Hello,

New to boating and this forum but like to ask a question regarding my radar system. I have a 2004 340 Sundancer and have the SL70c Pathfinder Radar system with autopilot. Its an older system and I'd like ask two questions.

1. Are there cards to update the maps in the system (I saw on this site there are no software upgrades available)

2. Can I upgrade the screen to a new system but still use the existing hardware the boat currently.

With maps and technology being updated on a almost daily basis it would be nice to have that on the boat but... not have to re-buy everything and save a few bucks along the way.

Thanks!
