After many years, my vessel has just completed its maiden voyage.

She is fitted with Raymarine instrumentation including E80 plotters.

Is it possible to record a log of passages?

[JH11] EV-1 wheelpilot disengaging

$

My wheel pilot has begun disengaging itself while steering my 35' sailboat. The arm swings up within about 15 seconds but continues to steer, and then sometime after that the arm will swing to disengage position and the drive will stop being able to steer. Other posts indicated that the solution was to tighten the belt with the knob on the back side. I tried to do that but any amount of tightening made the wheel difficult to turn when the unit was disengaged. Suggestions?

[JH11] Looking to upgrade MFD's and Sonar

My current set-up consists of (1) E97 screen and (1) E95 screen. The E95 is attached to a CP370 sonar module with a B258 through hull transducer. The set-up has never really worked offshore for whatever reason. I'm looking to upgrade my screens to larger and higher def units and my fish finding capability for offshore canyon fishing. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

[JH11] Downgrade ES98 from Lighthouse III to Lighthouse II

My eS98 is running 3.10.42 - however, I find it to be almost unusable as the MFD is very slow.

This thread describes the downgrade path back to Lighthouse II:

http://forum.raymarine.com/showthread.php?tid=6225

This thread points to 3.3.170 for Axiom MFD's (not atom-based MFD's like the eS).

However, when I attempt to downgrade to the eS series 3.3.170 (found here https://raymarine.app.box.com/s/rvh9wwha...5842046120) the MFD tells me there is no software on the microSD.

Before I brick my eS, is it correct to downgrade to 3.3.170 using the Axiom software?

[JH11] ITC-5 Wind Troubleshooting

$

I am attempting to troubleshoot my wind instrument/transducer and have followed the troubleshooting steps you have for the wind transducer. My systems in all SeatalkNG with the exception of Wind which utilized an ITC-5 (move to the NMEA2000 speed, depth, temp transducer last year and removed those functions from the ITC-5 - only Wind wires connected to ITC-5).

The behaviour experienced has been very inconsistent wind angle and speed readings. I have seen the wind speed read in the high 30-40s when in calm winds and zero when in 15 knots of wind (transducer seems to be in good shape, cups turning and angle pointing correctly). About 50-60% of the time, wind speed and angle are accurate.

Here is what I have found thus far through my troubleshooting
1) Tested the voltage at the base of the mast, all voltage levels read within spec on both the ITC-5 and transducer side). Again, this was done at the base of the mast where I thought I would be able isolate a cable issue on the ITC-5 or transducer side, but readings were normal.
2) During the testing, I utilized the ITC-5 to power the transducer which was reading 7.8x or 7.9x on my voltmeter. I expect this is acceptable.
3) Re-calibration from the I70 made no difference (system has 2 I70s, tried both with same/normal/successful calibration results)
4) When out sailing yesterday, I noticed the Wind speed was dropping to 0 in about 15 knots of breeze. During this time, the apparent wind angle seemed to be functioning normally which I believe may indicate a potential fault in the yellow wire.

Couple of quick questions:
1) Can you verify wind speed is carried on the yellow wire?
2) Can you let me know the size of the connectors that slide onto the ITC-5 spades? I would like to cut and re-crimp the ITC-5 side of the cable. Also, I am considering installing a temporary cable from the mast base to the ITC-5 to determine if that half of the cable run has any issues. It is probably 35 feet from mast base to ITC-5, would CAT5 cable work for a test like this? I do not have enough of the transducer cable (actually, may only need to do the yellow wire for this test since it seems to be a speed issue).
3) While my ITC-5 is connected to the SeatalkNG backbone, it also terminates the backbone (blue cable on one side, blue plug on other). I do not expect this to be an issue since it has worked fine for 3+ years, but just wanted to double check.
4) I would like to remove the ITC-5 from my network if I find a fault in the transducer or ITC5. Does Raymarine have any new options besides the ITC-5 or I60 to get wind to the NG network?

[JH11] Evolution and Steel hull

HI,

I got quick question about Evolution system on steel hull boat. Previous electronic compasses need to be installed above deck in case of steel hull. My question is how looks limitation for EVO sensore for Evolution autopilots. Did they steel interfere with steel hull and need to be installed above deck?

[LW11] SPX-5 fuse blows when steering wheel fully turned

Situation description:
- SPX-5 autopilot
- ST6001 instrument, connected to SeatalkNG convertor, in it's turn connected to backbone
- ST6001 data wire runs through compartment underneath steering wheel pedestal, which also contains rudder quadrant
- situation occurs when autopilot NOT engaged but in standby
- situation: when steering wheel is fully turned to it's limit, ST6001 first indicates "seatalk error", then after a second or two, 2A fuse situated in SPX-5 course computer unit blows. I'm quite sure this happens when turning to starbord, not clear if it also happens when turning portside. Probably it does, but I haven't paid attention, nor tried.

Q: what are potential causes for this situation?

e127/ B744 can't see fish

Hi,

I've had this unit installed on my boat for about 4 years. I've never been able to see fish unless they're big and right under the boat (albacore). I can see the bottom just fine, even at speed but after watching countless hours of video's and countless hours of trying to adjust everything, I never seem to have any luck. I've also just left everything on Auto and still no luck. I know there are fish there because my catch rate has been good. Once I adjust the sensitivity up high enough to see the downrigger [censored] (12 lbs at 55 feet) the screen is so cluttered up I wouldn't know a fish if I saw it. I'm expecting to see 5-30 lb salmon.

I operate in saltwater in the Pacific Northwest.

Can you provide any clues as to what is wrong?

Boat is a Shamrock Mackinaw 270 straight shaft. Transducer is mounted upstream of the shaft and has a high speed fairing block.

Cutting and rejoining Raymarine Ethernet Cables (RayNet, SeaTalkhs, etc.)

Cutting and rejoining Raymarine Ethernet (RayNet Cables, SeaTalkhs Cables, Digital Radar Cables, Quantum Data Cables, etc.)

Raymarine products requiring high bandwidth communications are designed communicate with one another via marinized Ethernet networking components. Raymarine's RayNet, SeaTalkHS, Digital Radar Cables, and Quantum Data Cables have been designed for this purpose and will support Ethernet communications between compatible Raymarine products featuring RayNet, SeaTalkhs, RJ45, Digital Radar, or Quantum Data communications sockets. Raymarine RayNet Cables, SeaTalkhs Cables, and Digital Radar Cables featuring RJ45 termination are manufactured with T568B termination.

It is generally advised that Raymarine cable not be cut / spliced to ensure maximum performance and reliability of the system. Please click here to view a FAQ addressing recommendations for Digital Radar Cable installations onboard vessels where the structure to which the radar transducer will be mounted may be removed. However, should it be necessary to remove a RJ45 plug from a SeaTalkhs / RayNet / Ethernet cable, then it would be recommended that the plug be replaced with a shielded RJ45 (M) plug (see the link above regarding T568B termination). Similarly, should a RayNet, SeaTalkhs, or Quantum Data Cable need to be cut and then rejoined, then it would be recommended that a shielded RJ45 (M) plug be installed on the cut ends of the cable and that an R32142 RJ45 to RJ45 Waterproof Coupler then be used to re-join the cable. Alternatively, the cable ends may then be rejoined using a marine grade Ethernet Cable Junction Box. If cutting and rejoining a section of a Digital Radar Cable which is not it's data leg, then one will additionally need to address rejoining the cable's power leads and shield.

[CA11] ACU150 and P70R Pilot Controller

I purchased the new ACU150 Autopilot at the first of this year with P70R Pilot Controller. i now wish to add my new Lowrance with this device. i purchased the NEMA 2000 spur cable. looking at the P70R instruction manual it shows the you can dassy chain from the P70R to the lowrance. the manual also shows and says there are 2 connectors. so when I get to the boat and ready to make a simple hook up, there is only 1 connector on the P70R. Did I get an older model? i will buy the correct backbone cable and a tee to make this work, just wondering about the 1 connector

[CA11] Element 9s -Suggestion

Currently I have 4 data boxes on the Element 9s when a chart is displayed. Is there a way of increasing this? or could this be raised as a suggestion please.

I would like to be able to view:

Speed over ground
Course over ground
Bearing to waypoint
Distance to waypoint
Time to waypoint
Local clock time

The current 4 data boxes display data in white characters. Could an option to display in black be incorporated to make the digits clearer when there is a lot of other stuff displayed on the chart in the back ground.

Thanks Pete

[CA11] Full details and tide in C80

$

Hi,
I have a C80 from 2005. This summer I have downloaded the latest Navionics charts. However I don't get full detail, such as depth figures, names of islands and marked main routs. From looking through the Forum here I realize that I may benefit from upgrading the C80 software. Will that do the trick?

Reading about all the fantastic features that will come with the C80 upgrade I note that tide will also be presented. Up until now I only sailed in Sweden, so tide has never been an issue. I now plan to sail further down in Europe where the tide is huge. Do I need to somehow arrange for internet access from the C80 to be able to see current and water level difference? How do I do that?

Or it is time to consider new plotter to get full details on tide and currents?

I have a damaged st40 Bidata screen where reading it is nearly impossible. I have not been able to locate a replacement screen and was wondering if anyone might have a DIY fix such as using a thin gauge piece of plexiglass to do the job or a source for the replacement screen?

[CA11] Redundant Autopilot install

I am installing a secondary autopilot and want to use the same drive unit. I have a Raymarine Smartpilot S2 installed right now.

The units will power will be wired in a way that will prevent them from being on, at the same time.

Do you see any concern about making the drive connection, via a busbar? So the drive output of each unit would go to a busbar and from the busbar to the drive unit. Would power being present at those terminals, while the Smartpilot is off, cause damage to that unit?

Thanks.

[JH11] Upgrading from E80...

I am looking to upgrade from my 2007 E80 Classic. It has a DSM 300 and a through hull transducer.

I do not need a ton of bells and whistles - just primarily looking for GPS and depth with fishfinder being nice to have. I have an Everglades 243 and only run/play/fish inshore both salt and fresh.

I have looked at the Axiom 9 and it seems great but wondering if it is too much for me.

Could you please provide me with guidance on a display and any other equipment I would need (i.e. transducer).

Thank you very much.

David

[CA11] S3g with Axiom Pro 12S

I have S3g autopilot control with P70s connected to Axiom Pro 12 s
I can see heading on both the Axiom and P70s however, when I'm at the Axiom setting Autopilot, there is no response from the Axiom to the S3g, when I'm using the GOTO function it is not following track, I have tried to set a track follow track it is not doing it, within few min I get the oftrack alarm. telling me Im off by alot. I have tried to follow the track manualy, meaning when I'm heading to target 125 deg. I manually set the P70s to 125 degrees, its not doing that as well.
When I purchased the Axiom pro12s I was told that it is compatible with the S3g autopilot control, the S3g is connected to the seatalk ng via converter, wiring is all done correctly. i see heading on screen but i don't follow track, any solution?
