[CA11] Upgrading from e series to Axiom Pro

$

I am planning to upgrade my existing dual screen e series system to the Axiom Pro. Replacing an e125 and an e127 with 2 new Axiom Pro 12 RVX units. Can I simply install the new Axiom units using the e125/127 cables already in place? I understand that a new cable for the RVX Transducer and any other other changes must be made. My power and network cables are already in place and it would save me a great deal of work not having to cut them out. This system is being installed on a 31' SAFE Boat full cabin patrol boat.

Thank you

[CA11] Seatalk RL 70 C Pathfinder

I have a RL70C Pathfinder system installed. It has the 'Mother' unit (where the cards are inserted) and a repeater unit in the cockpit.
The Repeater unit got damaged by moisture and I want to replace it. (the inside screen is discoloured)
Can I use another 'Mother' unit in the cockpit without inserting additional chart cards or does it have to be the identical repeater unit?
The system works extremely well!

[CA11] Wind instrument reads low

I have a networked system, C80 Classic, SPX-5 autopilot and an ST6001 control head connected via the STng converter. I also have Raymarine instruments for depth and speed, a nmea 0183 instrument for wind, SR-50 weather, etc. The C80 is connected via both Seatalk 2 and Seatalk 1. The wind instrument feeds nmea 0183 data directly to the autopilot and it is displayed correctly on the C80 and the ST6001 head.

If I connect my ST60+ wind instrument (want to use it as a repeater) it show very low wind speed. If I disconnect the Seatalk 2 from the back of the C80 the wind instrument displays correct wind speed and is in sync with the data on the C80. As soon as I reconnect the Seatalk 2, the wind display slows down (i.e. showing wind speed betwee 0 and 1 knot when the actual speed is 8-9 knots.

What could be the problem? I would like to keep the Seatalk 2 connection to the C80 because this way I get fast heading from the autopilot, the remote keypad and Sirius weather. However, I also like to have wind displayed on the instrument. Should I get rid of the NASA nmea wind sensor and go back to a Raymarine sensor?

Thank you for your help.

p.s. There has always been a good discussion on what nmea 2000 data the old C80 understands. I can now confirm that the C80 understands heading, wind, depth and speed. It can also control the autopilot. I believe it also understands GPS position info but I have not tested it yet.

[CA11] Autopilot / control head compatibility

Our catamaran has a 400 course computer, with ST6001+ and ST600R control heads and a Smart Controller.
The rest is ST60+ series, plus a multiplexer and PC for navigation
The autopilot could break down during an ocean passage. I have the opportunity to buy a spare S3G AST course computer.
On the Internet I could not find information regarding compatibility between ST6001+ and S3G AST. Even better would be a compatibility table. Could anybody inform me?
Thanks

[CA11] Following Route on E80/E120 MFDs

I have an E80 (nav station) and E120 (helm) networked via SeaTalk-hs. Also have autopilot. I’m able to create routes, but the “follow route” and “follow route options” buttons are unavailable. In order to “follow route” and, presumably, use autopilot, does the boat have to be underway? If not, how do I select “follow route”. Thanks!

[LW11] LightHouse 3 Trim Tab calibration support

$

Hello,

as already earlier from different user requested (back to 2014) a calibration application is fundamentally necessary for the use of 3rd part NMEA2K sensor/devices which need to be calibrated. Special if Raymarine does not offer such device like Bennett NMEA2000 Trim Tab indicator kit.

It is a 3 step simple procedure and not a huge program. The responsibility for the calibration results is even not on the Raymarine site as the calibration is just initiated on the MFD and the values are calculated and stored on the 3rd part device.

Cheap MFD's from different manufacturers are supporting this already for a long time and for a high-end quality product like the Axiom series with LightHouse 3 this function should be a "MUST HAVE" to support the function the MFD is offering.

Thank you.

I am following up this from a previous post... have a es127 connected to a new CP 470 and a new M265 chirp.. the mfd was previously connected to a M260. The MFD would not select transducer and message states sounder selected not available. Now the new transducer is connected to cp470 which is connected to es127 via F to F cable. Message says transducer not selected (select transducer) no transducer connected .... no transducers available to select from in drop down. 2 amber blinks on CP... very frustrated with my purchases here

DRIVE STOPPED alert on Evolution Autopilot control unit

$

DRIVE STOPPED indicates one of several issues,

1) The ACU has detected that the rudder is not moving in response to requested drive output
2) The ACU has detected a drive over current and so has stopped outputting power to the drive in order to protect itself
3) The Drive motor has stopped/ failed in some way, motor open circuit, poor connections in the cables, sticking brushes in the motor or failed clutch.

Initially follow the advice here to test the drive and eliminate an issue with the rudder reference unit - point 1) and drive unit itself - point 3).

Referring to point 2) this FAQ here details possible reasons why the ACU may overheat and so lead to a shutdown.

In cases where a 3rd party drive is fitted, we recommend an ACU400 be used as described here in order to be sure the ACU is not overpowered by the drive during starting/ reversing or operating at full load.

If the ACU is overstressed and shuts down due to overload, then the system may also revert to STANDBY in order to protect itself.

In addition to the above, also check the RUDDER DAMPING setting in calibration, if the autopilot is constantly moving to and fro or is being overloaded, increasing the RUDDER DAMPING in the Autopilot calibration to 7 or 8 will reduce the operating cycle of the autopilot, reduce the rudder movements and reduce the current consumed by the Autopilot as well as reducing the build up of heat too, so may help ease the overload until such time as a proper assessment and replacement of the ACU with a larger one is possible.

Today my DS500X would not power up. All other electronics work. The Raymarine Auto Helm display in the lower helm shoes the depth. But the chart plotter doesn't show the depth. Clearly something is still collecting depth data, but no longer delivering it to the chart plotter. Not sure how to diagnose the fish finder issue. Read it might be the cord. Any advice would be appreciated.

I currently have an E7D and will be replacing with an axiom pro 9. My current peripherals are an SPX 5 pilot, HD radar (2012-3), AIS 650. Are these peripherals all compatible with the Axiom? Can the E7D act as a slave? Tnx

[JH11] RD 218 Power surge

My boat went thru Hurricane Irma, suffering a power surge that blew out the capacitors on the RD 218, E80 MFD and the DSM300. I found a good E80 replacement. I'm thinking of replacing the capacitors in the RD 218. Is there a schematic available for the board in the Radar? Or what suggestions can you offer?

[JH11] MFD says no Pilot connected

Just upgraded to the latest software version as of today.
MFD reported Success.
The system is standard factory installed by Riviera in 2015
E125 MFD, PR70R networked via Volvo EVC to IPS600 pods.
The boat will steer to a vector set on the PR70R and the EVC shows rudder angle but the E125 shows No Pilot and when selecting a course the PR70R reports error, not connected.

What needs to be done/checked?

[LW11] i70s Speed - Decimal Places

$

Hi,

I just replaced my ST60 Speed with an ITC-5 and i70s. I am only getting Speed data to 1 decimal place whereas I got two before with the ST60. I like the 2dp data for racing to see whether we are accelerating or decelerating on a more granular basis. Is it possible to show 2dp speed on the i70s? Will it output 2dp or 1dp to STNG?

Thanks
