i70 - Sea Temp with Merc Gateway

$

Setup: A12, CPT-120 transducer, Merc Gateway (2 engines). Multiple i70 displays.

When the merc gateway is powered up - I lose the sea temp on the i70 units. Shows the incorrect data from the merc gateway (as there is no transducer supplying the data).

When I turn off the engines, the i70 shows the sea temp from the CPT-120.

On the a12, there is a data called Environment/Water Temp that shows the transducer data the whole time, regardless of if the engines are on or not.

The i70 doesn't have a water temp, nor an ability to select the water/sea temp source.

I suspect this is a NMEA duplicate data issue. I can't find any setting to resolve - but hoping there is one :)

Thank you

Dragonfly 5 Pro Sonar depth reading over weeds

$

My primary use of my Dragonfly 5 Pro is in freshwater lakes, and commonly in and around weeds. Most of the time the depth reading (the numerical depth on the display) is the depth of the tops of the weeds, and not depth of the lake bottom, or - if the weeds are spotty - fluctuates between the weed top depth and the depth of the bottom. Other depth finders I have used have little problem indicating the depth of the bottom, even with the weeds.

Why is this the case?

This is with all sensitivity settings on Auto. Happens on hard bottoms and soft bottoms.

evolution autopilot

I want to add evolution autopilot to my sabre 38 mk 2.

I want to install ev-100 sail but my concern is the displacement of boat is right at the limit of ev-100. If I install and it struggles could I add the mechanical rotary or mechanical linear which works with the ev-200 to the ev-100 system?

Thanks for your time.

is there a way to regain chart functionality for these MFD's without a chart card? gps position currently shows us always in the middle of the lake on the base world chart

thanks

SR100

I have an SR100 and Classic E120 Display. I don't receive the proper weather data for my region in the Great Lakes and was told by Sirius since Raymarine won't support/update the SR100 there is no "fix". Is this correct? And if so, what are my options? I'm hoping I don't need to spend $600 to get a receiver to get a weather forecast when I already have a system in place.

Please advise.

Fuel Flow meters not showing correctly on a78 MFD

I have an issue and Im trying to find the answer for it online and I am unable to find it. Here is my previous question on the old tech forum for a background

http://raymarine.ning.com/forum/topics/h...e=activity

Basically here is the run down of what I have done and what im looking to do..im looking for any ideas or options.

I have a seatalkNG network that is connected to 2- lowrance fuel flow sensors (the newest model) one for each engine. I see the fuel flow data on my MFD, however I only see a total amount of fuel used. I am not seeing each meter/engine separately..

It was my understanding that I would be able to see the fuel rate for each engine separately and not combined. This will do me absolutely no good when I shutdown one motor and troll for 4 hours on it, as my fuel tanks will not be dropping together, they are separate for each motor.

Any help or ideas or questions to help clarify this will be appreciated.

The sooner the better...if you need pics or anything I can provide those as well.

displays that work with the wireless Chirp Radar

I'm interested in the new wireless radar, Quantum Chirp radar, I think they call it. The radar unit is simple enough, but figuring out a display is making my head spin.

I want to use this on a trailer sailboat. The wireless function is ideal, as I can have one simple connector, similar to my mast lights and masthead antenna. I can buy the radar unit for around $1100, but figuring out what display to use is a challenge. One supplier told me that you could use an IPad with an app, but the Raymarine tech says you must first have an MFD.

There is a large selection, and they start at not cheap, and go to real expensive. I gather that any display I would buy will serve as a number of other things, like chart plotter, depth sounder, auto pilot and any other number of functions. All I want is a radar screen. If I have to spend another $700+ just to get a display for the radar it seems to be too expensive. Even if I do buy one, I am overwhelmed with what to get.

I have a Raymarine tiller autopilot - simple, push a button and it holds a course, no interfaces. I have a Raymarine depth sounder - look at it, it tells you how deep it is, no interface. How can I make this radar as simple?

Is a RD218 radar compatable with a new eS78

I'm considering updating my MFD from a C70 Classic to the new eS78 with sonar and wifi. Will my existing RD218 radar be a "plug and play" with the new MFD? If not, how do I make it work?
Thanks.

C70 NMEA Connection

Good morning. Currently a RS125 GPS antenna is connected to the SeaTalk input of a C70. Working fine. Can the NMEA output cable of the C70 be connected to a Lowrance LCX-15MT to share GPS data? I'm thinking C70 yellow to LC-15MT orange and C70 white to LC-15MT shield? Thanks.

Missing icons and data

I have 2 e127 displays running 16 version software. The chart card is Navionics Gold. The helm display which is the slave intermittently boots up missing some navaid icons or tide, current,or marina icons.Sometimes the current icon is present but clicking on it will show a flatline instead of the sinusoidal current diagram.Rebooting the display will often fix this.Sometimes just reclining on the current icon will fix this.
Both displays are.running the same.software version. The chart card is in the master display which does not do this however moving the card to the slave at the helm doesn't seem to solve it.I haven't been doing master.resets after each software upgrade recently. The menu settings are at the appropriate level of detail.
As always thanks for you help.

Raymarine EV-100 Power Evolution Autopilot

Hello,
We are planning the instalation of an Raymarine EV-100 Power Evolution Autopilot in a 36 ft boat powered by a twin Volvo D3 engines with hidarulic sterndrive. The question is, the EV-100 Raymarine EV-100 Power Evolution Autopilot pack will support this boat? At Raymarine web page about Hydraulic Steering Systems (http://www.raymarine.com/display/?id=773) they said that Type 0.5 is suitable for Volvo D4/D6 Sterndrive applications, and what about D3, is it suitable too?
Thanks,

Does upgrading to a Raystar 130 fix the intermittent no fix found GPS signal loss. This is not the battery issue where unit takes time to obtain location. Sensor will mate to a Raymarine E120 classic and ST8001 autopilot

P70 compatibility with 150/400 course computer

$

y primary question is about compatibility of the P70 control head with my rather old 150/400 course computer. The rest of the devices are all operating fine - C70 chartplotter, radar, TriData, ST60 Wind - and I would like to keep them in place.

My ST6001 control unit displays "STLK FAIL" consistently, and has since the day it arrived in Seattle from it's previous home in Florida. The unit worked fine during sea trials, and 3,000 miles on a truck probably jiggled something loose. (Yes, I've tried re-seating all the cables, etc.)

I have tried isolating the ST6001 control head from the rest of the SeaTalk network; also just to the course computer, to no avail. As far as I can tell, when I have the course computer on the network, but without the control head, the other components continue to operate, so this leads me to believe the course computer is probably ok, and the control head is the bad device.

And repair doesn't seem all that practical on a device that old (unless I'm missing something?)

So I am considering replacing the ST6001 with a P70 as a "drop-in" replacement, using SeaTalk 1 (not SeaTalkng). And the main question is whether the P70 is compatible with my course computer. I've attached some photos to help identify it.

Oh, and I would also like to upgrade the 150/400 with a gyro sensor, which the P70 will handle.

Secondary questions are: Do you have any other suggestions for troubleshooting? Or alternative suggestions for addressing this problem?

Thanks,

Erik

ST6001 Calibration

$

I cant seem to calibrate my ST6001 Autopilot. I follow the manual instructions and it keeps directing me to keep doing circles, i did about 20 circles tonight before giving up. I did many 2 minute circles at less than two knots but it wont move on to the next stage.

The compass heading on the autopilot doesn't match the boat compass so the autopilot keeps sending me off on a crazy direction every now and then. The autopilot is hooked up to a Raymarine C120.

Any help would be appreciated.

Send .gpx file to es127 from laptop

Trying to send .gpx file to es127 from my windows laptop. I connect via wifi directly to the es127 but can not figure out a way for the file to be pushed or pulled to mfd. Using the micro SD to transfer is not a viable option since this will be an almost daily task to upload the coarse for the day.

Was able to sent directly from OpenCPN to C80 in past via NMEA but do not see a way to do that either with es127.

Dragonfly 6 Sonar/DV blank

I recently installed a Dragonfly 6 with Navionics onto my Renegade Nomad 18 (shallow water center console). I love the gps features, but have been having problems with the sonar and down vision going to a blank screen after about 20 minutes of use. Sometimes I can turn the unit off and power it back up and itll be good for a while before going blank again. When it goes blank the depth often skyrockets as well. I recently updated to v12.09 hoping to resolve the issue, without any improvement.

Any suggestions would be great

Thank you

Testing an autopilot drive unit

$

When an autopilot fails to move the rudder, the fault may be rooted in the autopilot course computer, drive units, or rudder reference transducer. Should the autopilot course computer be interfaced to a rudder reference transducer, then click here to view the FAQ addressing how to test a rudder reference transducer. When using a rudder reference transducer, it is also very important to ensure that rudder limits have been correctly configured to establish angular limits to the amount of rudder travel and to ensure that the rudder angle indicator correctly indicates the position of the rudder with respect to the centered position.

Drive units feature reversible DC motors. The clutch of a drive unit is tested by placing the autopilot into Auto and then Standby. Should the drive not release and the drive unit's clutch lead be properly connected to the autopilot course computer of Evolution autopilot ACU, then the drive unit may have suffered a Clutch failure. A properly functioning drive until will engage the clutch (causes the drive to lock) when 12 VDC is present across the Clutch leads. Similarly, a properly functioning drive until will release the clutch (causes the drive disengage) when 12 VDC is not present across the Clutch leads.

Should rudder reference transducer (if so equipped) be operating properly, then failures related to rudder movement may be fault isolated to the drive or autopilot course computer testing the drive unit's ability to move the rudder in each direction when driven by a source of power other than the autopilot course computer. To do so, disconnect the drive unit's motor leads from the autopilot course computer and instead momentarily connect then to a 12VDC power circuit or battery. This connection should be momentary in nature and only long enough to verify that the drive is able to move the rudder. After verifying movement of the rudder in on direction,
1) disconnect the drive unit's motor leads from the 12VDC power circuit or batter
2) connect the drive unit's motor lead which had been previously connected to -12VDC instead to +12VDC
3) connect the drive unit's motor lead which had been previously connected to +12VDC instead to -12VDC
4) verify that the drive unit moves the rudder in the opposite direction

Should the drive unit move the rudder in both directions, then the fault has been isolated to the autopilot's course computer, necessitating that it be serviced or replaced. Should the drive unit move the not rudder in both directions, then the fault has been isolated to the drive unit, necessitating that it be serviced or replaced.
