Intuitively, it seems that we should have a system whereby if an AIS vessel is highlighted on the MFD, that the radio should be able to transmit to the vessel using the MMSI number shown on the MFD as part of the AIS data. Is this feature in existence or in prospect? In practice it is impractical to try to program in a vessel's MMSI number "on the fly" while cruising, in order to make a digital call. In practice, one can, at best, simply obtain the AIS vessel's name from the AIS data and call it by name on channel 9. AIS is helpful for this (better to call by name than calling "sports cruiser off my port bow" but to be able to "click and call" on MMSI would be very desireable. Is this feature in existence or in prospect?

Impossible to Display AIS Data
If a vessel with AIS is on or near a route that is programmed into the MFD (I have e147, e145 & a9)... If you click the vessel icon, the MFD only recognizes the route and the route options. I have found it impossible to bring up the AIS info (ex. boat name) in these situations. This has become a hazard as I frequently travel the East River and Hudson River and there is significant large commercial traffic that requires communication and agreement for safe passing. I have been struggling to get vessel names so that I can hail them on the VHF to negotiate safe passing.
Any solution to quickly get the AIS info of a target on or near a route?

Quickly Select "Dual Watch" (VHF 260)
I am frequenty traveling through heavy commerical traffice areas and I have to monitor both 16 + 13 which is the commercial traffic channel. It take 6 clicks on the VHF 260 to enable "Dual Watch", which involves scrolling through menus. All my other radios have one-click access to "Dual Watch". Is there anyway to access Dual Watch faster on the VHF 260?

ST50 VMG Wind Repeater
Hello,
When a ST50 VMG wind display is pigail connected to a fully functional ST50 Wind display/system, (including a functional masthead), I read that if there is SOW on the seatalk bus (which there was not) it will repeat wind speed, (seatalk bus communication verified via lamp brightness settings) but will the wind direction pointer not function either without SOW? Just wondering because it doesn't repeat wind speed or mimicked the pointer...

Testing an autopilot drive unit
Drive units feature reversible DC motors. The clutch of a drive unit is tested by placing the autopilot into Auto and then Standby. Should the drive not release and the drive unit's clutch lead be properly connected to the autopilot course computer of Evolution autopilot ACU, then the drive unit may have suffered a Clutch failure. A properly functioning drive until will engage the clutch (causes the drive to lock) when 12 VDC is present across the Clutch leads. Similarly, a properly functioning drive until will release the clutch (causes the drive disengage) when 12 VDC is not present across the Clutch leads.
Testing a drive unit's motor is a relatively simple matter involving temporary connection of the drive unit motor A and B leads to a 12 VDC power circuit and verifying movement of the ram or rudder. Connect Motor A lead to +12 VDC and Motor B lead to -12 VDC and verify movement of the drive unit's ram or rudder. If the ram or rudder moves, then reversal of the motor may instead be tested by connecting the Motor A lead to -12 VDC and the Motor B lead to +12 VDC and verifying movement in the opposite directly of the drive unit's ram or rudder.

No Track with Garmin MFD after Updating Evolution AP
After updating my Evolution Autopilot to latest firmware, track mode did not work with Garmin MFD anymore. The autopilot asks to confirm the next waypoint persistently.
I downgraded to older firmware and everything works again.

Radar Extension Cable
Hi,
I installed the RD418HD Color Radome Radar. It is the 18 inch radome radar that is HD and color. I need a 5m extension cable for this system to get the radar input to my C97 MFD. I think the extension cable needed for this is the A55080D. Can you verify that this is the proper extension cable for this radar? If this is not the correct cable, could you help me identify the right one?
Thanks for the help,
Gary Green

Raymarine i70 won't do 3 box screen
The manual for the i70 says that it will do three-box screens for a Favorites screen that can contain digital data. In fact the illustration in the manual shows this.
It will allow a simple graphic item such as the depth guage item (looks kind of like a thermometer) to be placed in the box, but that is all it will allow.
My i70 will not allow any digital item to be placed in a 3 box screen. For example, it will not allow COG, Heading, and BTW to all be placed in each of three boxes. Works fine for the six box screen.
Is this a software glitch or am I missing something?

Dragonfly 5 DVS locks on thermocline instead of bottom
Hi,
I bought a new Dragonfly 5 DVS last month from ca.binnacle.com to upgrade from my old black & white third party and I encountered some issues that I hope someone can help me with.
I fish in a lake having the max depth of 150 ft with a strong thermocline (school of baitfish?) at about 30-35 ft. At low trolling speeds the sonar locks on this thermocline (shown as a wide light blue, yellow and orange band) and the display shows its depth in the left upper corner instead of the bottom depth, which is much lower. I cannot zoom out to see any lower from that thermocline. Sometimes, when the bottom is not far below the thermocline, the bottom is shown correctly on the screen, but the displayed numeric value of the depth is still that of the thermocline.
Chapter 8.11 of the manual refers to manual settings of sensitivity for gain and noise, but I could not find them on my model, just the fish sensitivity and that one does not fix the problem.
Not seeing what is below the thermocline is a very serious shortcoming, in my opinion. This never happened on my old black & white third party fishfinder.
Please help !

Air temperature display on i70 or es98 MFD
Hi,
I've been trying to display the air temperature on our i70 display or eS98 MFD. Do I need another device to provide that information to the system, or is it integrated into the i70 or es98 MFD?
My personal GPS has that feature built in, so I am hoping it's already available within the current system.
If another device is needed, what is it and where is it available?
Thanks,
C

i70 transducer calibration through iTC-5
The i70 displays all of my transducer data, but I cannot calibrate any of them. When I get to the iTC-5 menu on the i70, all of the transducer options (Depth, Speed, Wind, etc) are grayed out and can't be selected.
The i70 and iTC-5 were just installed, replacing an i50 tridata. After installation, I ran a software update using my a95 MFD wifi connection. It did not identify any updates for the i70 or iTC-5 (only the p70 and Evolution ACU).
The i70 is daisy-chained to a p70, which is connected to a 5-way SeaTalkng connector. I wouldn't think the order matters, does it?
Any ideas about what might be preventing the transducer calibration?

SHD Power on problems
I have a SHD radar unit that seems to have problems powering on sometimes. If 12v power is lost and then restored the radar unit fails to power on about half the time. When this happens the VCM100 will audibly click, the standby light goes out momentarily, the green on LED lights momentarily and then the green led is extinguished and the yellow standby is illuminated again. Sometimes I can resolve this by turning the power off and then back on. Other times I can only restore functionality by disconnecting the cable from the back of the radar pedestal and reconnecting it. Once the unit powers on it works flawlessly until power is lost again.
Does this point towards a fault with the VCM?
Thanks
Ben

Connecting Raypilot 65 into Seatalk circuit
I have recently purchase a new old stock Raypilot 65 handheld autopilot controller. At first I tried to connect it to the central wiring block for the autopilot but it wouldn't work. Then I connected it to the end of the Seatalk daisy chain that interconnects my tridata, compass, multi, autopilot, and radar/chart plotter. I did this by using the last Seatalk wire that goes into the radar. THe Raypilot 65 works fine when connected to the Seatalk. However, it required me to disconnect the radar to connect the Raypilot 65 into that last Seatalk daisy chain. Unfortunately the radar unit does not have a second Seatalk port to continue the daisy chain.
What do I need to do to get the Raypilot 65 connected into this daisy chain, or is there another connection possibility? Is there a piece of hardware I need to make this happen?
Thanks

Losing Depth Display on E90
I have an E90 multi function display, equipped with a DSM and SeaTalk hs network. The system has been in operation for several years and worked fine.
All units are located inside the dash on the flybridge.
It appears that when the DSM gets warm, we lose the depth display, while everything else works fine. (when it is cool, it is ok).
Do you have any suggestions, other than relocating the unit to another location, which is not an easy task? ie: any software updates available, etc?
Thank you!

MFD having difficulty connecting to iPhone used as Wi-Fi hotspot
Since the introduction of support for wireless connection of a Wi-Fi equipped a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD to a Wi-Fi hotspot, Raymarine has received a limited number of reports from a/c/e/eS-Series MFDs owners stating that their Wi-Fi equipped a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD is having difficulty connecting to an iPhone which in turn has been configured as Wi-Fi hotspot. While the investigation is still within its preliminary phase, the fault seems to be rooted in use of hidden characters contained within the names which have been automatically assigned to the phone. Should a problem be encountered when attempting to establish a Wi-Fi connection from one's a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD to an iPhone Wi-Fi hotspot, then it recommended that the phone's automatically generated name be deleted and that the name (or another name of your choosing) then be manually keyed into the iPhone.

No autopilot after R17 update
Did the full software update, realizing that a recommissioning of the autopilot would be required. Now when i try to go through the commissioning steps I get an error saying "no drive detected", and am stopped cold. Same thing if i try to engage the pilot. A component scan does not show the ACU-300 on the system. Have tried powering on and off. Have had no issues prior. Any other suggestions?

ITC-5 With Speed/Temp
I installed a new ITC-5 to an existing depth transducer and an existing combo speed/temp transducer. The depth is displaying correctly, but the speed and temp do not. I saw in a previous thread on this site that if the thermistor is bad that the transducer won't be recognized. I measured the thermistor with my meter and it was around 3600 Ohms. This equates to way hotter than our 80 degree water temperature. I'd say the temperature sensor is bad and wonder if this is what is causing the ITC-5 not to recognize the speed/temp transducer?
