RL80C Not Starting

Hello,

I'm having a problem with it not starting. Sometimes just a flicker on pressing the button, but mostly nothing at all. I tried re-attaching the plugs, and got one normal startup then nothing after that. There is no visible corrosion on the plugs. Any advice on solving this would be much appreciated.

thank you,

Tim

SeaTalkNG power with ACU-400 - Best Practices

$

Chuck (Moderator) pointed to a power FAQ he wrote here: http://forum.raymarine.com/showthread.php?tid=410

...where he listed (among other things) ST70 instruments and the ST-STNG converter. But when using the converter then any ST60 instruments (and other classic SeaTalk(1) devices) are also getting power from the bus. Can they also be "switched" with the power to that bus? Will they behave the same viz power buttons as ST70 instruments? Or do they need to be powered up and down separately?

My particular installation (see signature) has an ACU-400 which powers the STNG bus so the ACU and bus (with P70R, et cetera) are on one breaker. What are the best practices for turning off the AP power? I have an ACU-400 so my STNG bus is powered by the AP. And I have the breaker switch in my pilothouse so I can turn the AP off if it mis-operates while underway (I don't think Raymarine documents an interrupt / kill / emergency switch as some other manufacturers do). And I can turn the internal GPS on my a78 back on if necessary (plus I have a redundant nav system power isolated on a N2K network). And I have configured that other nav system (Coastal Explorer on a laptop) to use the EVO to keep it in sync with the AP per our other thread. If I turn off the STNG bus (by opening the AP breaker), it has a secondary nav source it can switch to so I'm not particularly worried there. But, ideally, I'd like to just leave the AP - and STNG bus - powered up all the time (95% at the dock on reliable power). So...is leaving the AP system (and STNG network) on 24x7 a good practice? Or are there some discrete components in the Raymarine gear in my signature - like capacitors - with a finite life, even if that life is in years?

Completely Factory Resetting Evolution

I appear to be having an issue with resetting the Evolution - the behavior I got when upgrading software is different than what I can trigger via menus on the P70R

As part of the upgrade to Lighthouse 17 for my Raymarine devices (see signature), I was automatically lead through a reset of the Evolution autopilot. I was prompted for a handful of things, and can particularly remember language, centering the rudder, moving it to its stops, and letting the Evolution "switch the rudder" from hard-over to hard-over.

Now, when I try to replicate this behavior via a "Factory Reset" on the P70R I don't get quite that behavior. I can get prompted for boat type and drive type, but then it just displays (apparently default) values for rudder swing and hardover times. I can update them manually, but...I think there are some other settings that are also stuck in memory.

In particular, I am trying to reset after changing the configuraiton of the RFU to now come from the ST60 RAI. Previously I had a terminal strip in the pilot house and Y-ed the leads from the RFU to both the ST60 and into the rudder terminals on the ACU-400. Everything worked OK, I was able to "power-steer", both the ST60 RAI and the P70R displayed apparently the right angle, but...there was a small dithering back and forth of the ST60 RAI indicator needle while at rest. So I decided to go with Chuck's original recommendation (on the old forum) of going straight to the ST60 RAI, and then going ST-STNG to get the signal onto the STNG bus. Got that installed, the ST60 needle is rock steady, and shifting the rudder is completely in sync between the ST60 and the P70R. So then I go to "Power Steer" on the P70R and I get beeps and "Rudder Feedback" on the P70R and my a78 displays "pilot rudder feedback fault". So I assume that the ACU-400 still thinks the rudder feedback is directly attached and start down the "factory reset" approach, except...it doesn't appear to be doing a COMPLETE reset.

How do I make the ACU-400 forget that it ever had a RFU directly connected? And go back to the out-of-the-box commissioning sequence?

Sidenote: if this configuration is not supported for "power-steering" I can go back to wiring directly to the ACU-400. I even have a spare E22158 and could run independent wiring. But I think I'm missing something obvious here and it has be buffaloed.

ST60 Wind Speed Missing

HI
I have an ST60 installed on our sailboat. I has worked fine for the 4 years we have owned this boat. HOWEVER...last year it was not connected because the wires were stuck in the compression post in the cabin (long story). This year prior to mast stepping I spliced additional wire to lengthen the wire run. Now, new this year the wind speed only show 0.0. Wind direction is fine.
I searched this forum, and performed the following troubleshooting at the terminal strip beneath the mast compression post:

Red to shield should read 8 volts DC steady. This is the masthead power supply, coming from the ST50/ST60 display head. If the head is damaged, you may need to provide this power from another source to test the masthead.

Blue to Shield should read anywhere between 2 and 6 volts DC. This is the port side directional element. The voltage changes as the vane turns.

Green to Shield should read anywhere between 2 and 6 volts DC. This is the starboard side directional element.

Yellow to shield should read between 0 and 5 volts DC. This is the wind speed circuit. The faster the wind is blowing, the higher the voltage will read."

I do have the voltages as indicated above at all my connections. I did not test the back of the instrument, but did check them visually, and they appear normal.
Any other suggestions? It's a big PITA not having having wind speed ...

Thanks...John H

DSM300 stops reading bottom

$

I have a DSM300 that has been trouble for as long as I have owned the boat. It would often stop showing bottom even while anchored and I would just turn it off and back on or sometimes turn off the screen that was showing sounder data and back on and it would read again. Lately it has gotten worse. The bottom display will freeze, I will turn off the sounder and back on, it will start displaying again and then freeze again after about 30 seconds. The screens will sometimes report that pings are disabled.

The sounder has good power with its own switch on my panel where I can turn it off and on. It does not appear to be hot when the problems occur but if does seem to happen after it has been running for sometime. I have checked all of the connections and all (power and network) are tight and clean. It is connected via an HS5 switch to 2 c95 screens. Screens and sounder have all been upgraded to the latest firmware.

Any suggestions?

Hello,
I have a depth transducer wired to a iTC-5. The i50 display is showing erratic depth readings. When the boat is stationary, the readings are correct. However when moving, the depth display will bounce between 0 depth and the correct depth. The transducer is installed in the same location of a previous transducer that had no problems.
Any ideas?
thanks!

Sirius 150 - low resolution Nexrad

I purchased a new Sirius 150 Weather Rx last September connected to an E120 display. It worked perfectly after installation. After the winter break, I renewed my weather subscription and the sat weather now works fine except the nexrad is displayed in extremely low resolution. All it shows is large square blocks instead of detailed precipitation radar returns-regardless of zoom level. I had my electronics tech switch the 150 from the E120 to my G series display without improvement.
the P/E is E70161
the S/N is E701610630231
the ESN is 97VX0403
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Commissioning EV-100

Good Morning Chuck, I finally had a chance to commission my EV 100 yesterday, I was driving around for 45 minutes, and the control display always read commissioning at the top ? Does this go away when completed ? I was using it and it seemed to work fine, hit auto and would hold coarse, could steer with rotating the knob. Just wondering if it's complete now, or if I should commission again and wait for for the commissioning bar at top of screen to go away ? Time was limited on water from flooding issues on the local river/lake. Still waiting on cables from Hummingbird to hook up my MFD into the system
Thank you Ray.

I now have a Dragonfly7 and an A98. I am buying a new boat and am looking to put a 12" screen MFD mounted flush in it. I only use the sonar and gps functions. Should I go with the A series or Es for my needs ( or another model ). I definitely want to keep the touch screen. Will the GPS work as well when mounted flush on the center console as it does mounted on top of the CC?

connection RS130 GPS to C70 Classic system

Need some guidance... I had a problem with my old RS125 GPS antenna that fed my C70 Classic, no position fix on the C70. All other components worked fine ie., the C70, ST60 speed and depth and the lights on the RS125 flickered without any consistent pattern. I am trying to connect the new RS130 but of course it has the SeatalkNG connection whereas the C70 has the old Seatalk 3 pin connections. I also have a newer XP30 autopilot controller the is interfaced with the Seatalk system to which I connected the new RS130 antenna. I have a great green blinking light on the RS 130 but still no fix on the chartplotter. Any ideas?

adding 2nd STng converter in system

I'm adding an older VHF radio with DSC function to the network. The terminators at the end of the backbone run are inaccessible. (wire runs are full and won't take another cable) That's why I need another converter, placed in the cabinet near first one. Now am connecting new converter to the existing converter . . . all sockets are used, no terminators at the converter. Have already connected wiring from the radio to the new STng converter.
Can you please tell me if this attached wiring diagram is correct?

Thank you,
Gary B.

Hello, this may have been covered somewhere, but I just installed a new Dragonfly 4 pro. 17 foot Nitro bass boat. I really think I put the transducer in the right spot. Clockwise rotating prop. I put the transducer starboard central. I don't have that many places to put it. Need some thoughts and suggestions here. Can't have it not register depth while moving fast. Any help would be appreciated. Is there a way to post a picture of the boat to help with this ? Thanks.

Troubles controlling SR150

Hello,

I'm fighting a problem with the control and, I believe, connectivity of my SR150. This problem is showing up specifically when I attempt to change the audio stations on the SR150 using the Sirius audio page.

I see several different patterns of behavior. Sometimes everything works as it should, with artist, song, station and radio ID displayed and I'm able to change stations. Sometimes none of that information appears and instead all dashes appear but I'm still able to change stations. Sometimes all the information displays but it is old data from hours ago and in some cases I can still change the station and in others I can't. I also see different behavior from plotter to plotter.

I have a total of 6 plotters on the boat:

2x e125
1x e95
1x e7
1x a65
1x a67

There are two HS5 switches on the boat linked via port 5 for 1000mb connectivity. There is a single additional ethernet switch for IP Cameras.
I have a SHD 12kw radar unit, AIS650, EV200 autopilot, 130 GPS receiver, two p70r AP heads, i70 color display and an i70 tridata. I also have 5 ONVIF compliant non-raymarine IP cameras.

The problems are highly transient where frequently two plotters won't be able to load song data but others can. Interestingly, one of the e125s is the datamaster. This unit has the a65 hung off it's network port (this seems to work but I've not been able to confirm if this could cause any problems) and I just confirmed a situation where the a65 hung off the e125 could load song info, but the e125 couldn't.

I've tried disconnecting the additional switch with the cameras to no avail. The plotters are all running 17.45 while the SR150 has the 20150209 patch applied. At the advice of Raymarine support I did a settings reset on all units on the boat with no change in behavior.

I'm stumped.

S2/SHS Problem

$

I have an S2 computer with external SHS (so effectively an S2G) that has worked satisfactorily for several years. It has now developed several problems. These are not consistent but happen periodically (between minutes and hours). Symptoms:

- Sitting tied to the dock, the heading data rotates clockwise in 360 degree circles at a rate of perhaps 15 degrees/second.

- When at the dock or underway, entering AUTO mode causes the rudder to immediately go significantly (in some case hard) left. When this happens the heading data is still correct—that is, it matches that when AUTO was engaged. The heading data is NOT rotating at this point.

The problems are independent. I haven’t observed both at the same time.

Powering the computer off and on solves these problems sometimes.

More interestingly, disconnecting the SHS seems to solve the problems permanently. I’ve never observed the problems with the SHS disconnected.

The SHS bench tests correctly (proper voltage and expected changes when rotated). I’ve also swapped in a different, good SHS and the problems persist.

What is the recommended path forward here?

C90w doesn't maintain head up and/or course up vector orientation

Course up and/or head up vectors don't maintain their vertical position. Cycling through head up, course up, north up reorients vectors to proper position and they wander off again.

Type 2 Linear Drive Not Actuating

$

I have a Type 400G Course Computer driving a Type 2 Hydraulic Linear Drive (M81200). Upon pressing "Auto" the clutch engages as evidenced by the wheel locking but the Drive does not steer the boat (even when +/- 10 is pressed). I'm assuming the system is attempting to steer the boat because eventually the "off course" alarm initiates. Since the fluid reservoir is full I suspect something electrical. The voltage out of the course computer "Motor" terminals is ~ 6.5V when +/- 10 is pressed and the same voltage is also being seen at the black & red wires of the pump, but there is no apparent indication that the motor is running. Now for the questions:
1. Is ~ 6.5V an appropriate reading?
2. If so, are there any further tests I can run to verify that pump/motor condition? Can the pump/motor be rebuilt or is a new one needed. What type /model number?
3. If 6.5V is not appropriate is there any troubleshooting that can performed on the Course Computer?

Thank you in advance.

Heading Sensor Error After Software Upgrade

I updated the software on my GS165, then P70R, ACU and EVO2. I completed the MFD updates (17.45), as well the related A/P Updates. I also completed a recalibration of the A/P. Now, the Heading Sensor initially retains the adjustment for about five minutes, but then goes askew to being off by 40 deg. I have reset this several times with the same outcome.

Raymarine E80 unable to update OS

I have a Raymarine E80 classic display that I'm trying to upgrade from the 3.30 OS. I've acquired a 128mb CF card, formatted it to MS-DOS(FAT), downloaded the updates from the website, unzipped them, and placed them at the root of the card.

The instructions say to insert the card and restart the unit however I don't see any information concerning the systems update as per the instructions.

Is there something I'm missing?
