[LW11] Integration Axiom 7 DV with old ST60 equipment

$

Dear all,

I am in need to put together a similar configuration described at http://forum.raymarine.com/showthread.ph...+RAYFAQ%23 But I have a more specific question, although broader, once I need to order all the parts from overseas and get them in the US.

In my O'Day 37 sailboat I currently have the configuration depicted on the right hand side of the attached diagram. It is comprised of a ST60 Wind, a ST60 TriData, a SPX-5 Auto Pilot with a ST6002 head and a steering wheel drive. I used to have a RL70C radar/plotter which is dead. The existing equipment are Seatalk1 integrated and there is no other connection onboard.

The RL70C will be replaced by an Axiom. Once my ST60 instruments and the autopilot are working perfectly I will not replace them for now, but want to have them somehow connected to the Axiom Seatalkng network, which will gradually be replacing the old Seatalk1. Another reason to keep the existing ST60s and the existing transducers is I am not scheduled to pull the boat out of the water for the next 12 month at least.

Therefore, what I'd like to ask is the validation of the left-hand side of the attached diagram (drawn in light blue) and a list of the components I will need to order to put this together. I also might want to use a non-Raymarine AIS I have at home, which requires a NMEA0183 connection.

Thanks for the help,

Carlos

I70 - No Apparent Wind Speed

Hi

I've been asked to help fault-find a newly installed wind transducer that is not reporting Apparent Wind Speed. Both the i70 and a7 in the system report a constant 0.0 Knots and has been for a week in all wind conditions. The direction works just fine.
I updated all software this afternoon and performed the test outlined in a previous thread.

The measurements were.

1. Red to Shield - 8VDC
2. Blue & Green to Shield - Both varying with wind direction, both within 2.0 - 5.8VDC
3. Yellow to Shield - 3.34VDC (Constant)

The wind speed was very low when I performed the test, probably 2-3 knots. The voltage never changed from 3.34VDC and I used an analog meter also to try and detect the pulse. At no stage did I see a change in voltage or any needle flicker.

The wind transducer is connected to an ITC-5, this is also connected to a DST 800 which is working well. As already mentioned, the wind direction is correct and functioning.

One last data point, the voltage of the ITC-5 yellow (wind speed) terminal on the ITC-5 is 3.34VDC with the yellow transducer cable disconnected. Voltage on the latter being 0VDC.

Can you please advise on your recommended next steps for me to take? Are there any further tests I can perform to positively identify the fault part, ITC-5 or transducer?
Thanks for your help.

Powering a MFD off of the boat

It is not uncommon for owners of MFDs to remove their MFDs from the vessel for the purpose of gaining experience with the MFD's controls and features during the off season. MFD have a simulator feature to aid in understanding and practicing use of the MFD's features. To operate the MFD off of the vessel, it is recommended that an extra power cable and a third party regulated 12V DC power supply with a rating of at least 6 Amps (ex. Pyramid Pyramid PS8KX, etc.) be purchased. 1/4" banana plugs (ex. POMONA Banana Plugs, etc.) can also be useful in permitting the MFD's power cable to be quickly and easily connected/disconnected from the power supply. The part number for the MFD's power cable may be typically be found within the Spares chapter of the MFD's installation guide. Please click here to view a FAQ where customers may purchase Raymarine product parts as well as to determine availability and pricing of these parts.

When connecting a MFD's power cable to a power supply for operation off of the vessel, simply
- connect the drain lead along with the black power lead of the MFD's Power/Data Cable to the power supply's negative terminal; and
- connect the red power lead of the MFD's Power/Data Cable to the power supply's positive terminal.

[CA11] Evolution control head question/LH compatibility

Upgrading my ~2000 vintage autopilot (twin diesel inboard), Current 12v type 1 pump/rudder sensor should be good with new system. New computer ACU-150 or ACU-200, have gs165 with LH3 (for Quantum 2) , which is where the question is...
Website says "Note that your multifunction display must be running Raymarine's LightHouse II software and that some autopilot functionality may not be available if your system does not include a dedicated autopilot control head."

1. Is Evolution really not compatible with LH3? If not, when??
2. What EXACTLY is the autopilot functionality that may not be available if I just go with my MFD to control the ACU and skip a dedicated control head (why waste the space??)

Thanks,
Dave

[CA11] Trouble displaying boat speed from Signet sensor

My new i70s display and ITC-5 work perfectly with my new wind speed and direction sensor but when I wired my old Signet paddlewheel (M01530) self-powered boat speed sensor to the ITC-5 I just get blinking lights indicating no connection and no speed readout. The i70s search for sensors does not find the sensor. The sensor works fine with the old Signet Smartpac 175 and display it came with. The sensor has a red and a black wire and a shield wire. I've tried connecting the wires to the 3 speed sensor terminals in the ITC-5 with the shield in the middle silver spot, red to red and black on the other side (green) and every other permutation. Nothing. The sensor generates an AC signal proportional to speed 8 khz/knot and 1.4 vp-p/kt which I'm guessing means voltage out is also proportional to knots. Any helpful advice would sure be appreciated. I do have a new Airmar DST800 but I would have to haul out the boat and somehow enlarge the through-the-hull opening inorder to install it. In a similar post, the moderator suggested getting another ITC-5 but that had no effect. I've checked for a loose connection too.

[CA11] Raymarine SR150 antenna light flashing green

We just had a solar arch installed and with that, the XM antenna was moved to a plate mounted on the back of the solar arch. Since then our XM stopped working, no XM radio, no XM weather. The antenna light on the SR150 is flashing green, steady flashes. The manual seems to indicate that this is an issue with the antenna, but the company that moved the antenna to the solar arch told us that the SR150 needs to be sent into Raymarine.

Is it possible that the SR150 could be damaged, even though the antenna light seems to indicate an issue with the antenna?

SeaTalk 1 to MNEA 2000 via ST70

$

I have a few questions interfacing SeaTalk 1 to NMEA2000. Found some of the answers in your Forum but not all.

I have an existing SeaTalk 1 based system ,consisting of an S3G course computer, 1 ST7002+, 1 ST6000+, 1 ST600R, 1 smart controller w. Base station, 1 ST60 Multi, ST60 Speed, ST60 Depth, ST 60 Wind, ST 60 close hauled, and 1 ST70 instrument. Also there are still 2 SeaTalk 1 to NMEA0183/RS232 bridges that I may not use any more.

The SeaTalk 1 bus with all above listed instruments is powered by the S3G.

The functions (PGNs) I would like to get from SeaTalk 1 to NMEA2000 are wind, water speed and depth related data, as well as rudder angle and heading. The other way I would like to send GNSS data like position, SOG, SOG, and autopilot (RMB type) data to facilitate track mode. Fast heading I have already picked up directly at the NMEA0183 port of the S3G and passed it via an Actisense gateway to the N2k backbone - that works just fine and is used as backup heading should the Airmar 220WX sensor fail.

To bridge between the SeaTalk1 network and the NMEA2000 backbone and get the above function, it looked to me like I had about three options.

1) ST70 instrument bridging to the NMEA2000 backbone using spur cable A06046.

2) Using a SeaTalk1 to SeaTalkng converter kit E22158 and splicing a backbone cable to connect it with the NMEA2000 backbone.

3) Using one of the SeaTalk 1 to NMEA0183/RS232 bridges in conjunction with another Actisense N2k/N0183 gateway.

Since I already had the ST70 instrument I tried version (1) and it appeared to work right away. However I noticed that the ST70 would occasionally freeze and not get going again without cycling power. I also noticed that it was passing on SeaTalk power to the N2k backbone. I actually found this quite convenient as I would need to power N2k from an inverter as my DC system is 24V. Checked the S3G and it claims to provide up to 5A for SeaTalk power. The load on the N2k backbone is rather mild as the bigger participants have their own power supply. What’s left is currently two Actisense gateways with 35mA (LEN1), 1 Yacht Devices gateway with 18mA (LEN1) and one Airmar 220WX sensor with <50mA (LEN1).

I have not tried version (2) as I don’t have the conversion kit (yet) and I’m not sure if it would be any different to using the ST70 for the same task. I realise that the ST70 is a bit dated and the reason for it to occasionally freeze may simply lay in the fact that N2k specs have advanced since and some new PNG format may confuse it. It has worked flawlessly as long as it was just connected to good old SeaTalk 1. So one of my questions is, would the conversion kit be a save bet, and the best way to do this?

With respect to version (3), I have not tried it yet, but am quite sure it would work ok. It just seems a bit odd to translate twice. With version (3) the choice of SeaTalk power for N2k goes away and I would need to separately power the two networks.

So, am I making some false assumptions and/or is there a best way of solving this that you would recommend.

[DG11] Raymarine Voyage Planner issue

Hi there,

My recently purchased Raymarine Voyage Planner doesn't accept my Navionics card which is an update of my old Navionics Gold Card. This issue was addressed to Lighthouse Store Support and after some emails back and forth they advised me to address the issue to this forum (see emails below).

In my opinion it is a bit weird that the Voyage Planner doesn't accept Navionics update cards (which are preloaded charts). By not accepting it means that a user of the Voyage Planner needs to buy expensive brand new cards every year. This is not very cost effective.

Hopefully there is a reader in this forum with a proper solution for me.

Regards, Roland

Hello,

I would suggest you post or read through existing posts in the Raymarine Forum's PC & Mobile section http://forum.raymarine.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=123). One of our moderators or another user may be able to better assist you.

Hello,

Thank you again for answering. For me it is a bit weird that my Navionics update I recently purchased and which replaces my old Navionics Gold card, will not be loaded in the Voyage Planner. This means that I yearly have to buy (expensive) new cards instead of cost effective updates to make the Voyage Planner work. Please let me know if this is an issue to be addressed to Raymarine or Navionics.

Kind regards, Roland

Hello Roland,

Unfortunately, it seems that only pre-loaded Navionics products (Navionics Gold, Navionics+, Navionics HotMaps, Navionics Platinum, etc.) are the ones that can be imported into Voyage Planner.

Hello again,

Thanks for responding. Hopefully I am not asking too much of your patience. Please find attached a picture of the Navionics card. As you can see it is an 'update card' which was purchased shortly. Hopefully this information is enough for you to judge if this card is compatible with the Voyage Planner.

Hello,

Once the Navionics Chart Installer is finished downloading the chart, please close it, but leave the card in your computer.

Then run Voyage Planner and import the charts using the Charts menu then selecting Install Navionics Charts from Media Card. Using this process will activate your charts for use on Voyage Planner.

For a more detailed how-to on installing Navionics charts to Voyage Planner see this article https://fugawi.com/knowledge_base/document/FF12350

Hi there,

Recently I purchased the Raymarine Voyage Planner DVD and after installing I am having problems with getting my Navionics charts visible in the program after the files were successfully downloaded. It seems that the files are not being tranferred to the FX5 status.

I have tried to troubleshoot this issue by following your abbreviations in the Fugawi knowledge base. The last thing I tried was the following: https://www.fugawi.com/knowledge_base/document/FF12333

This problems starts making me a bit desperate and I kindly ask you to help me.

I have ST 60 wind, dept and speed via Seatalk1 connected to my ST4000 autopilot and Pathfinder radar display.

The GPS/navigator is 3 party vendor and i am looking at a C-series second hand MFD as replacement. Probably a 2 unit C70 installation.

Seatalk1 connection will give me wind, speed and depth at the MFD.

Q: But how does C-series MFD transmit tracking data to ST4000. will it come via Seatalk1 or the NMEA input on the ST4000 only.

Hello:

Does anyone have a link - or access to - the older forums?

I am looking in particular for a post I created about September 2015 where I used a Maretron "Micro Field-Attachable Connector - Male - FA-CM-ST" to bridge between STNG and N2K networks. My recollection was that I whacked an end off a STNG backbone and attached this connector - I'm pretty sure I took a photo of the Maretron documentation with the STNG wires identified.

It worked a peach on my previous vessel and now I need to replicate on my new one.

I have an Axiom 9 RV with 3.7.70 software and a Microsoft MSDisplay Adapter_07. When I select "Settings" I then get a page with a title of "Settings" with 'Getting Started' , 'Boat details' , 'Units" , 'This display' , Autopilot' , and 'Network' as available selection choices. When I select 'This display' the page changes but still says "Settings" across the top, not Wireless display as page 81 of the 3.7XX lighthouse manual indicates.r searches for any available. I get no list of available wireless displays and it never scans for compatible devices. Nothing works the way that page 81 of the manual says it should. What's wrong?

Hallo, Im Antonio, new user, I
I have a question about my new ais 700 transreceiver and my old chartplotter Raymarine C80, nmea 0183
How I've to do the connections? I have to connect the nmea 183 cable from the ais 700 to my smart pilot Raymarine where I saw a lot of " entrance" nmea out+ nmea in - etc or I have to connect the ais 700 direct into the C80 display? in this case, where can I buy this cable? my chartplotter is outside on my sailboat ( 42 feet ) and the Ais700 is located inside, so in this case I need a long cable.
Thank you in advance for the help.

[CA11] No downvision after update...

Hi all,

Just updated my Axiom 7 3D with the latest update, v3.7.70.

Just before the update I had spent a couple of hours out on the water checking out the boat. Everything worked well including the Chartplotter, radar and sonar - including downVision, side scan and 3D. After docking I did the Raymarine update v3.7.70' specifically for Axiom and networked peripherals. All of the networked transducers and such were turned on and recognized by the Axiom.

After the update, all worked well until I tried the downvision... All I got was "a black screen of death"! The 3D , the side scan and the sonar still work like they should. When I went to the home screen to start a new downvision app and name it, it wouldn't allow me too and installed the 3D instead.

I have to assume that there was a problem in the updating process, but I haven't found any information on how to do a reinstall of the same software or a downgrade to the last software. I'd really be appreciative of someone pointing me in the right direction.

Oh, the transducer is an RV100...

Thanks!

[CA11] e7D Fishfinder Upgrade Questions- New User

This summer I purchased a 2013 Center Console boat equipped with a Raymarine e7d and a P58 Transom Mounted Transducer. Overall I found the unit to be user friendly and easily upgraded to the newest version of software.

I Live in Coastal NH and fish for striped bass. Fishing depths range from 4-60 feet. I feel that the fishfinding functionality of the e7d has been good- but I would not classify it as great. I would like to see more definition and a greater ability to differentiate fish form bottom debris. I was never really able to get that signature curved marking of fish that you see on many units. Full disclosure this could be my inexperience with fishfinders and might be a setting issue? See attached picture- in this case I couldn't tell if these were fish or debris in the water. I have not played with the TVQ or Gain Settings. Would that make a differnce?

My Question is if there are any possible upgrades that I could make without replacing the whole unit? Really looking for more powerful and useful fishfinding. Would adding a down vision unit like the CP100 make a huge difference?

Thanks so much for your input!
