[CA11] Best transducer for Axiom Pro 16 RVX

$

Have Axiom Pro 16 RVX with RV220 transducers and Quantum 2 Q24D radar on 38’ Bertram. Used in Pacific Northwest for salmon fishing down to 200’ halibut fishing to 250’ and prawning to 400’. There is often a very distinct thermocline anywhere from 40’ to 80’, at present sounder does not work well 200’. It loses bottom and if it has bottom line on sounder it does not show up as digital depth reading on chart plotter. What additional transducer do you recommend and do I need a cp370 or cp470 with that to get best reading or is the unit by itself sufficient?

[CA11] Rudder Indicator Wires

[CA11] Raymarine A128 and S1G to NMEA 2000

I have a 1998 Sea Ray that originally came with a Type 100 AP and a 650 Raypilot head. On the boat I have three Garmin 741xs units, two Fox Marine MEFI engine gateways and some other smaller equipment all on a NMEA 2000 backbone. I connected the NMEA 0183 I/O wires from one of the Garmins to the Type 100 NMEA 0183 ports and the autopilot worked well.

Earlier this year I purchased a P70R controller directly from Raymarine and a S1G AP used from Ebay. From reading an earlier post from Chuck, I knew the S1G allowed me to use the P70R and keep my existing autopilot wiring, pump, rudder sensor and fluxgate. Since I had no other Seatalk equipment I just used a Seatalk junction block and Seatalk to Seatalkng cable to the P70 and it works great. The P70R controller shows the course and waypoint name from the Garmin and the S1G tracks straight and true. The Garmins do not have the ability to control the AP but provide data via the 0183.

So finally the question...
Saturday I ordered an A128 MFD directly from Raymarine and want to add it to the NMEA 2000 backbone as well as have it share control of the S1G autopilot. Can I use the Converter kit #E22158 and connect the S1G to the yellow port, the A128 and P70R to the white ports and then the blue port (with terminator and devicenet female) to the end of my existing NMEA 2000 backbone? Will I still need the 0183 connection to the Garmin?

Thank you in advance,
Tim Daleo

[CA11] Bluetooth connection for Axiom

I have discovered a bug in the bluetooth connection for my Axiom system. I have an Axiom 12 and 7 networked. I have a Fusion RA70 that is not in the NMEA network.
The Fusion connects to the Axioms via bluetooth. It works well when using the Spotify app on the Axioms. I am able to control the play/pause and forward/backward skip from the Fusion but only when the Spotify app screen is up on the Axiom. When I close the Spotify app screen and use chart, radar, etc, Spotify continues to run in the background (the music continues to play and Spotify advances to the next song as normal) but you can no longer skip or play/pause using the Fusion unit and you have to close whatever Axiom screen us up and go back into the Spotify app so the controls will work.

This seems like a simple software bug to me. Can you fix this in an update?

Thank you,

Pat

[CA11] Type 2 Rotary Drive Current/Amps

$

The only specs I can find on the current draw for the rotary drives show that the Type 2 uses between 60 and 84 watts.

A quick calculation shows that at 12 volts, the drive unit will draw 5-7 Amps.

But, and this is where my confusion comes in, the chart shows that you need the ACU-400 for the Type 2 rotary drive.

Why?

Specifically, why the ACU-400 instead of the ACU-200?

The ACU-200 specs say that it can power a drive unit up to 15 Amps continuous, which, if the specs on the Type 2 Rotary Drive are to be believed, is more than double the amount of current that the drive unit will draw.

The ACU-400, with a 30 Amps continuous rating seems like absolute overkill for a drive unit that supposedly only draws a maximum of 7 amps.

Can someone tell me what I'm missing here?

[CA11] Problem updating HD Radar Software

Hello All, I am new here and totally new to Raymarine, thanks in advance for taking the time to read about my question.
I recently bought a Formula 40PC 2016 equipped with Raymarine electronics, it came with an E127 MFD, P70 Autopilot and I70 MF Instrument.
The previous owner never updated the software so I proceeded to download the latest version of LightHouse 2 to V19.xx, everything went smooth and after the update of the E127 was completed i proceeded to update all the other components and again everything went smooth but for the 4K HD radar. Every time I tried to upgrade it, the process starts ok, and at about 47% completion in the process the icon for the radar in the lower right of the e127 goes from Radar to No Radar and the process stops, after this the displays keeps showing "No Radar" until after power is cycled and by power cycled i mean shooting the power off to the whole unit, just turning on and off the E127 won't make the unit discover the radar again. Previous version of the Radar software is 3.xx new version is 6.XX (sorry about the XX. don't remember the exact versions off the top of my head.
Thanks guys for your help

[CA11] Upgrading 2005 era electronics

Hello,
I am upgrading older electronics on a 2005 Beneteau I recently acquired. I hope you might review a proposed design and answer a couple of questions.
Attached is a sketch of the proposed electronics and network.
I purchased an Axiom Pro 9 RVX and Quantum doppler radar. I plan to purchase an AIS 700 transceiver and possibly a new VHF. For now I want to keep the old S2 autopilot and the ST6001 controller as well as the ST60 Tridata, ST60 Wind, and the ST60 Graphics display. I will remove a Garmin GPS computer which sent data to the S2 autopilot by means of the NEMA connections.
I understand that MARPA radar display functions will not work without a fast heading data source which the S2 autopilot does not provide.
Q1. With the new setup setup will the S2 autopilot get sufficient data from the Axiom Pro and the legacy instruments to continue to function as it does now?
Q2. Will the Axiom Pro be able to direct the S2 autopilot in any manner?
Right or wrong, currently power to the Seatalk1 daisy chained ST60 instruments comes from both a power source connected to one of the seatalk1 connections on the Tridata and from power through the autopilot. In preparation for the new system I looked at removing the autopilot power source to the new Seatalk1 / Seatalkng network. With the old setup when I disconnect the power core wire (red wire) at the Seatalk1 B connection on the autopilot while leaving the other two wires in place the ST6001 reported a Seatalk network failure.
Q3. When I install the new network with the powered Seatalkng convertor how should I deal with this double power source? Leave it as is and don’t worry about it, try to fool the system by removing the red wire as I did before and jumper a power wire from Seatlalk1 A to Seatalk1 B, or something else?
Please let me know if you have any suggestions or concerns with the proposed design or if it looks ok.
Thanks.

[CA11] Which Camera to Install

$

I am considering adding cameras to my Sea Ray Sundancer. I currently have installed an Axiom 12 inch and Axiom 7 inch on my helm. I am interested in Raymarine
ClearCruise Augmented Reality and understand that I need to purchase either the CAM210 or the CAM220 cameras. What is the difference between these two cameras.
Which camera should I get and why?

I am also considering purchasing a FLIR M232 thermal camera? Which would be better to have a thermal camera; or should I consider adding both a CAM210/220 and a FLIR M232? Would there significant advantages in having both a thermal camera and IR camera?

[CA11] Replacing Fluxgate compass

Can I replace the failed Autohelm/Raymarine M81190 fluxgate compass with a Digital Yacht HSC100 fluxgate compass. The HSC100 is NMEA 0183. Do I wire the HSC100 into the Type 100/300 AP or into the ImuxST multiplexor? Many Thanks.

[CA11] Voyage Planner on Mac Computers

I want to report that I am able to successfully run Voyage Planner on a Mac Computer by using the latest version of Parallels Desktop and MicroSoft Windows 10 to emulate a Windows PC. This is working great for me because I have able to now use Navionics on my laptop to plan routes and use a microSD card to transfer routes/waypoints to and from my Axiom MFD. Additionally I recommend to use a mouse instead of the Mac trackpad when planning routes; much more accurate.

More information can be found in Fugawi Knowledge Base post, "Can I run Fugawi Marine 5 in a virtual Windows environment on a Mac OS X computer?" located at: https://www.fugawi.com/knowledge_base/document/FF12008

[CA11] AIS700 to A-series

I'm wondering if the AIS700 will connect to the A-series a12. Is the AIS700 "backwards compatible" with the "retired" A-series?

The other option would be buying a "retired" AIS 650, which is from the same generation.

Thanks in advance!

[CA11] RADAR and Reflectors

Hello,

I just purchased a used Trawler this past Summer. It came equipped with Raymarine RADAR mounted atop a short mast. I would like to mount a RADAR Reflector on the mast as well (probably a vertical "stick" type). If I mount the reflector next to the RADAR unit, will there be interference with either unit? This about the only place that the reflector will fit.
On my sailboat, I mounted a Tri-Lens reflector about midway up the mast. This worked quite well.
And...do I even need a Reflector? I do plan to cruise up and down the East Coast.
Thanks Much.

[DG11] Cannot change ST60/ST60+ units to metres

$

I have an A70D (classic) display connected to an ST60 Multi and ST60+ Graphic via an E22158 converter.

The A70D is set to show depth in metres, but I am unable to change the units on either of the displays to metres. They are both stuck on Feet.

If I turn off the power on the A70D then the units can be changed, but as soon as the chartplotter is turned back on, they revert back.

Is this issue being caused by the chartplotter or the converter? Both are on the latest software. Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks in advance

[DG11]Distance ais 700 and fluxgate compass

Hallo everybody,
I'm to decide where located my new ais and I find a safe place near the
S2 smartpilot, before to fix it, I have noted that the fluxgate compass is at 60-70c centimetres from the place I will install the ais.
I have read that from compasses the minimum tollerate distance is 1
meter. It is valid also for the fluxgate compass?
Many thanks
Antonio.
