(DG) E80 Seatalk2 output to ST60+

Just replaced my C80 with an E80 connected to a DSM 300 via SeaTalk HS.
Trying to sort out how to connect my ST60+ (Depth) and assumed I could use the Seatalk 2 output on the back of the e80.

Figured there would be a SeaTalk 2 plug to a SeaTalk 1 (Flat 3-Pin) that would allow me to simply use the E80s SeaTalk2 output to feed data to my ST60 Depth?

This seems like the most basic way to get transducer data to my ST60+. Since I am no longer using the DSM output cable from the DSM300 this may be an option too, however, I can't locate a DSM to SeaTalk 1 cable either.

Any help would be most appreciated. Would rather not put a separate transducer in just to receive data on the ST60+.

[CA] SPX30 Doing Poorly in Track Mode

I have an SPX30 (V3.05 software) connected to a P70 (V3.07). A non-Raymarine chartplotter is connected providing navigation information over NMEA.

The AP works flawlessly in Auto mode and does a pretty good job in Wind mode (from an ST60 over ST through an ST-STng bridge). Where it fails completely is in Track mode. My old 3000+ wheel pilot used to handle this without problem 20 years ago.

The NMEA output shows I am sending ECRMB, ECRMC, ECAPB, GPVTG, GPGGA, GPGLL, and GPRMC sentences to the AP (and other units on the network). I don't have a Ray MFD, so can't grab diagnostics.

With the SPX30 here is my sequence:

Get the boat on track (XTE 0.00 or 0.01) and pointed on heading. AP heading output agrees with nav system heading within a degree or two. Display shows that the AP is receiving XTE, COG, SOG, BTW, DTW from NMEA (on rare occasions I have a hiccup here and I'l get the 'no nav data' warning, but that is pretty rare).

Change to track mode. The AP will change heading exactly 30 degrees. If the XTE sentence says -0.00 it will change to the right, if it says +0.00 it will change to the left - i.e. if the LH in Auto mode is 000 it will change to either LH 330 or LH 030. I can have zero XTE, but it changes course based on the sign of the XTE. This is with response from 1 to 3. If I set response higher than 3 (which is where I normally have it in Auto mode) the turns become larger.

Of course that gets it way off course so then it over corrects and turns 60 degrees the opposite direction. It takes about 15 seconds, but it pretty much always ends up at exactly 30 degrees the other side of the correct heading.

This continues forever, never settles out. The longest I've let it run is 30 minutes, it usually wears out my patience long before then.

Other than the response setting I haven't found any other adjustment I can make (such as limiting the LH deviation from the BTW to 5 or 10 degrees instead of 30).

Of course it doesn't do anything like in this in Auto or Vane, there it seems to run just fine. Any thoughts? Any additional data I can provide?

Thanks

[CA] Es97 touch screen issues

$

I have two MFD, one at each helm. Both of them have begun to behave badly. The touch function deteriorates after about 20 minutes to the point that it no longer works. Soon after that, the screen begins to act as if it's being touched all over the screen to the point that it starts to pick menu choices and change autopilot settings, turning the radar off, any random menu selection is being activated while enroute.

I clean the screen from any salt water residues, restart the entire system and the same dance begins again. 20 to 30 minutes later, I am having to same issues. The units are reasonably protected from direct seawater exposure.

My solution is to activate touch lock so the autopilot is not interrupted, but the screen beeps endlessly error messages that the touch lock is activated.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The units are less than a year old.

Thank you in advance for your help

[CA] AIS700 to Tacktick T122 and Actisense NGW-1

Hi,

I have a brand new AIS700 transponder and I would like to connect it to my existing instruments, which are:
- a Tacktick T122 Interface,
- 2 Standard horizon VHF: 1600 Explorer and HX471S.
- 1 Actisense NGW-1 (to connect to other devices such as autopilot.)

Looking to do 2 things:
- Connect both VHF directly to the transponder (safer connection config).
- Send the Tacktick 122 info (wind, speed over water, etc) and GPS (from the AIS) to the Actisense. To do so, I'm looking to connect the AIS as the input of the T122 and the Actisense (connected as a listener) as the output of the T122

In attached files the wiring diagrams of each devices.

I've try to figure out by myself but after a few hours, I'm clueless.
Any advise will be very appreciated.

Many thanks,

Alex

I’m looking for a replacement bezel for an E120 Classic. My fly bridge unit’s cracked severely at 3 corners over the winter. (Weather sealed too tightly to the NaviPod?)

If any one has a bezel, or a dead E120 classic, or knows where I might get one, let me know. So far nothing on EBay or at max marine electronics except fully functioning units.

[CA] My i70 display will not show indicated SOG

Hi All
I cannot figure out why my i70 display will only show indicated SOG on one screen and not on any other screens. It receives speed data from the GPS on the chart plotter. The auto pilot uses the same data source and works just fine. The i70 is back boned into the p70 auto pilot so each display is receiving the same speed data. I have been through the settings many times but this one has me stumped.

(DG) Quantum 2 cable length shortening

I've ordered a Quantum 2 radar and would like to know if it is ok to cut the radar cable and install connectors on it at the base of my mast. Does Raymarine have the connectors?

Cutting and joining communications cables

Raymarine always recommends using the correct length Raymarine supplied cables with pre fitted connectors and the range of T Pieces and connectors available specifically for this purpose.
Whilst it is always best to avoid cutting and splicing communications cables - because every such join introduces a potential failure point; when it is essential, then as long as they are made carefully and correctly, it should not be a problem.

It is possible to use the appropriate type of waterproof plug and socket connector which can be fitted to the communications cables - usually available from a 3rd party - Raymarine do not supply self assembly plugs and sockets.

Alternatively the cable can be rejoined by soldering and heatshrink sleeving the cores, a few simple points to note here,
- The solder joint must be carefully made to ensure excellent conductivity across the join- that is to say no dry joints
- The sleeving must fully insulate the bares conductors
- The cable shield which encloses all the cores inside the cable MUST be reinstated to ensure correct shielding of the cable against RFi refer here for more information regarding RFi.
- the connection will need to be waterproof and provided with mechanical strain relief to avoid stress on the join
- The connection must be made in a dry protected location - if there is any concern for water ingress, then the joint should be further protected in a waterproof junction box
- A poor quality join will create data corruption and loss of data and may also trigger random data issues too.

NOTE: Fishfinder and Depth Transducer cables must not be modified / spliced.

Installation and operations guides not packaged with Raymarine MFDs

Early marine electronics were manufactured with software which could only be installed by the manufacturer and as a result supported features which remained unchanged through the period that the product was manufactured and sold. Beginning with Raymarine's A/C/E-Series Classic MFDs and continuing through Raymarine's presently manufactured MFDs, Raymarine has offered easily installed software updates for its MFDs. These MFD software updates not only correct features and add support for new Raymarine accessories, but also add new features to the MFDs. This permits the same MFD hardware design to remain relevant as a product throughout the period of its manufacture and sale. In the ensuing years, the pace of releases for MFD software updates has increased to the point where they are now occurring at almost quarterly intervals. As a result, any operations manuals printed prior to a software update would naturally lack any information concerning the feature additions and/or feature changes included within the latest available software for the MFD. In recognition of the likelihood that the package of a purchased Raymarine MFD would contain an obsolete obsolete operations, to embrace the technical advantages of electronic documentation (ex. Find, Copy, etc.), and to provide a cost savings to its customers, Raymarine, like most electronics manufacturers, abandoned packing hard copies of its product documents with Raymarine MFDs. Instead, customers may now download electronic copies the latest versions of Raymarine product documentation (installation guides, installation templates, operations guides, etc.) from Raymarine's Manuals and Documents web page. In recognition that some customers may prefer paper documentation over electronic documentation, paper copies of Raymarine documentation may be ordered from Raymarine's Print Shop.

(DG) Powering Backbone

Hello,

I have a question about power on my backbone.

I have :

1 x Axiom Pro 7" (has its own direct to bus power)
1 x EV400 + Sensor Core and RAT - All powered off EV400 - the switch to allow the EV400 to supply power over the backbone is turned on.
1 x GA150 GPS
1 x P70 control head

I am now adding the Sail System Pack (ITC5, triducer, rotovecta, P70s) - this pack came with the wires to connect up the gear to to battery's again.

The question is would the existing EV400 be ok to power all the items in the System pack without wiring in another 12v supply to the backbone?

Cheers

(DG) Autopilot interference on echosounder

Hi

I´am experiencing serious interference from autopilot on my echosounder. All products are Raymarine.
- Evolution autopilot w/ ACU200
- eS128 MFD with CP370 sonar module
- Transducer is B260

The interference occurs when I switch from "standby" to "auto" on my evolution autopilot. Seems to me it is the hydraulic pump which makes the noise. The noise only occurs on 200 kHz and not on 50 kHz.

I have a GRP hull. All groundings as pr installation procedures. Ferrit cores fitted without success. Also tried to mount hyd.pump on rubber pads without scccess. Also tried to change pump and ACU200 unit without success.

The technical support in Norway is a disaster. They have noe clue what so ever.

es127 touch screen issue after cleaning

$

The touch screen on my es127 MFD no longer functions. It was working OK before I cleaned it (with fresh water only), but had a substantial amount of salt on it from an ocean crossing.

Now, I very rarely get a response to a screen touch, and there are sounds that seem to be from phantom touches, even when the touch lock is on.

I cannot do an alignment (I managed to get the first alignment point to register once, but could not get further than that). This was after a settings / data reset.

Does anyone recommend trying anything else? We are away from the US on an extended basis, so returning the unit would be a pain.

Thank you,

Tim

I have a Dragonfly 7 purchased in 2015.

Questions:

1. How do I enter GPS numbers into my unit?
2. I don't get a depth reading when traveling more than an idle speed. Doesn't matter the speed. Is this normal?

With apps like Netflix included in the 3.4 release, it would seem relatively easy to offer streaming (or screen mirroring} from one's phone or tablet to an Axiom screen. Just a suggestion!
