[CA] SmartController Problems

My system is several years old and has been working well until now.
Recently the SmartController malfunctioned and appeared to loose connection to the RF base station.
The controller displayed the message "ERROR" Check Sum Fail 00 0000 00 and then more zeroes. It then says Searching for network, then Press any key, then the screen blinks sometimes a black line shows temporarily then nothing, even the key clicks stop.
After a few moments if I press C it the whole sequence starts again.
By putting the two units close together and continually restarting them both sometimes they connect, when this happens the signal strength indicator is minimal, the date and time are incorrect and by pressing and holding the Select key I can access the menu which appears ok except that I get a No Pilot message.
I cannot get into the Dealer Maintenance program to test the system.
I have tried the "reset" button on the base, no change. The voltage at the base is 12v - 13v in a dry location.

[CA] CPT200 and CP200 - extensions, towfish

Hi,

What is the maximum length that the CP200 and CPT200 can be extended without a repeater, whether in segments of the 4m extension cable or by cutting, shielding, and potting it manually?

I'm looking at the possibility to tow the sidescan rather than transom mounting it to get some usable performance.

Thanks!

Offset applied within depth data item of DPT sentences xmitted DS400X/DS500X/DS600X

Offset applied within depth data item of DPT sentences transmitted by DS400X/DS500X/DS600X

The NMEA 0183 specification specifies that the depth data items included within the DBT and DPT sentences are defined to be depth below the transducer. The DPT NMEA 0183 sentence includes a field for depth offset. However, the depth value reported within the NMEA 0183 DPT sentences transmitted by the DS400X, DS500X, and DS600X are instead sum of the depth below transducer and the depth offset.

Given this fault, should the NMEA 0183 output port of the DS400X, DS500X, or DS600X fishfinder be interfaced to a NMEA 0183 listener and should a depth offset be configured within the fishfinder's settings, then it is recommended that the DPT sentence be configured OFF within the fishfinder's NMEA 0183 output configuration settings. Unfortunately, the DS400X, DS500X, and DS600X were retired quite some time ago, and no further software updates will be released for this product.

[TG] AIS not available on second unit (C-series Classic over Seatalk)

$

Hello:

I have a C-80 at my internal helm with AIS connected via NMEA to the unit - it works fine.
I have just installed a c-70 at the helm and connected power and the SeaTalk. Everything works on the helm unit (gps, compass, wind, etc.) but not the AIS. The Icons says AIS is not working.

I expected the AIS data to be hared over the seatalk network like all the other data - is there any way to do this, or do I need another connector to the helm unit's NMEA?

(both units have the latest firmware installed)
Thanks

Updates for SPX is MFD specific and in some cases version specific.
Axiom is not listed in the MFD specific category.
How do you update an SPX with an Axiom?

[TG] Replaced DSM300 with CP370 to restore numeric depth reading

After installing the CP370 - I was finally able to have numeric depth (fishfinder always worked on the DSM300). So I updated the software to 13.34 and can't beleive I'm back to no numeric display and the fishfinder appears to have a lot of blips (no longer displays the flat bottom. I have rebooted and have Reset the CP370 with no change. I've no real need for the fishfinder I would just like a reliable depth finder. System has P79 transducer and E80 MFDs and a SeaTalk HS switch.

I've been fighting this issue since purchasing this boat in 2013 and would like to get it fixed so that one day I can sell the boat with a working depth finder integrated to the Raymarine Nav equipment.

Any suggestions???
Thanks,
Rip

[TG] AXIOM Pro RVX with Marine Camera

I am trying to connect a third party IP camera to a Raymarine AXIOM Pro 12 RVX MFD. I have selected a camera that I believe meets the specifications listed at the link below which is titled “Video Input Sources for MFDs using Lighthouse II and Lighthouse3”:

http://forum.raymarine.com/showthread.ph...s+for+MFDs

The AXIOM Pro is running Lighthouse 3 v3.2.92

I have disabled the ONVIF authentication on the camera using its WEB interface via Window 10 and IE 11. I have also power cycled the camera and verified I can access the Live Video via the PC without any authentication.

I have connected the camera directly to the AXIOM Pro RayNet connector via a standard CAT-6 internet cable and a Raymarine Raynet Adapter Cable (Raynet (F) to RJ 45 (F) - Part Number A80247) . The camera’s 12 volt input is powered directly and not by the POE capability.

I continue to see the “No Camera Detected” error on the AXIOM screen. I have power cycled the AXIOM while leaving the camera on, and I have power cycled the camera while leaving the AXIOM on.

I have tried two different IP Cameras:
Dahua model IPC-HFW1320S
Hikvision model DS-2CD2042WD-I

Questions:
1) Am I using the correct Ethernet to Raynet adapter cable?
2) Is there a way to tell the AXIOM the default IP address of the camera (192.168.1.108 or 192.168.1.64)?
3) Any other tips or suggestions?

Sincerely,
Jon

[TG] Adding an EV1 Heading Sensor to Axiom?

$

I would like to have heading data on my NMEA 2000 network for the Axiom panel to use, the EV1 looks like the correct product but it is setup for a SeaTalkng network.

Is it easy/possible to connect the EV1 directly to the NMEA 2000 net without creating a separate SeaTalkng bus? Maybe an adapter cable between the EV1 and the NMEA T connector?

Thanks in advance for the help.

[TG] DSM operation out of the water

My boat has 2 C140W's and a DSM30 networked via a SeatalkHS 8 port switch. I have been experiencing spurious Connection Lost messages from the DSM. The boat is new to me so I don't know the trouble history or software levels. I would like to troubleshoot per FAQ 90 but the boat is now out of the water for the winter.

Is it safe to operate the fishfinder out of the water with the transducer powered? Alternately, can the unit be operated with the transducer disconnected in order to determine the software levels and troubleshoot the power/network connections?

[TG] Two displays - sharing AIS and charts?

Hello:

I have two Raymarine MFD's on board my yacht, one is a C-80 and the other a C-70. They are both connected to the SeaTalk network.
Both units show all the transducer information (wind, compass, depth etc) fine.
Can I share one chart onto the two displays, or do I need two separate charts?

Thanks

Just got a DF 7 Pro....wondering what is the round thing just above the transducer? Maybe a RF choke?
And I am going to mount to trolling motor with correct mounting bracket BUT trying to figure out best way to do this without causing too much bend in the cable. Curious if anyone had any suggestions.

[CA] AXIOM PRO RVX

Hello I have a question on the new AXIOM PRO RVX, what benefit would I have if I just ran this with a 1kw B275L-HW or If I installed a CP470 and ran the same B275L-HW. Also what kind of performance can I expect on the 3d side if I ran a second transom mount transducer.
My boat is a 25 ft Hawaii fishing boat with twin sterndrive engines, I currently run another brand 50/200 1kw depth recorder with a B258 transducer mounting with a fairing block. will the B275 fit in the fairing block for the B258?
My goal is to find and track bait in the 60-120 feet, and bottom fish up to 1200 feet and also track tuna schools in deeper waters.
Thanks for any information I can get.

[CA] Axiom Pro and dual channel Airmar Transducers

Chuck, without a CP470/570 interfaced does the built in 1KW chirp module in a Axiom Pro RVX allow for FULL use of the DUAL CHANNEL, for example, a B265 chirp transducer, or is it SINGLE channel only, ie, B175?

I am very confused by the materials.

[CA] St6001 drops out of auto to standby

$

Bought a used 20002 Jeanneau sailboat last year that has a ST6001 autopilot that would not stay in auto. Did some troubleshooting and found the power supply wires into the course computer were not securely connected. I cleaned up the wire ends and re-connected as best I could and the auto pilot worked perfectly....for a weekend. Then back to the same issue, would fail from auto to standby almost immediately. I believe that the wire connection is the problem but need advice on a good method to secure the connection. The wire is #10 wire, which per the manual is the proper wire size to use, but the jaws of the connection at the course computer will not open any where close to wide enough to accept #10 wire. Have considered splicing on a short piece of smaller gauge wire or crimping on some type of pin connector that will fit into the jaws of the terminal. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

CP470 vs 1kW CHIRP Sonar Circuitry of Axiom Pro RVS MFDs

CP470 vs 1kW CHIRP Sonar Circuitry of Axiom Pro RVS MFDs

Those seeking deep water CHIRP sonar performance, are advised to consider a Raymarine 1kW CHIRP transducer or Raymarine 1kW CHIRP Transducer Pair. When considering whether to install a CHIRP Sounder Module or an Axiom Pro RVS MFD to process the signal from the 1kW CHIRP Transducer(s), the question sometimes arises as to whether there is an advantage of one over the other. In short, the internal 1kW CHIRP sonar circuitry within an Axiom Pro RVS MFD is designed to be the functional equivalent of that found within the CP470 CHIRP Sonar Module. By including 1kW CHIRP sonar circuitry within the body of the Axiom Pro RVS MFDs, the installation may be simplified and costs may be lessened. Reasons to consider installation of a CHIRP Sounder Module rather than use the internal 1kW CHIRP Sonar Circuitry within an Axiom Pro RVX MFD include:

- modular system design ... in the unlikely event of a CP470 or CP570 failure, then 1kW CHIRP Sonar Module, rather than the MFD, would need to be serviced. This would preserve the bulk of marine electronics functionality onboard until such time as the CP470 or CP570 has been serviced and reinstalled.

- redundancy ... in the unlikely event of a CP470 or CP570 failure, should an Axiom Pro RVX MFD be installed onboard, then the 1kW CHIRP transducer may be connected to the Axiom Pro RVX MFD until such time as the CP470 or CP570 has been serviced and reinstalled.

- transducer cable chasing issues. By installing a CP470 or CP570 within relatively close proximity to the 1kW CHIRP Transducer, then relatively smaller diameter Ethernet communications cable rather than the transducer's cable would instead be chased.

The CP470 and CP570 CHIRP Sonar Modules were initially introduced for use with MFDs running LightHouse II software (i.e. the a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs). However, these CHIRP Sonar Modules may also be used with MFDs running LightHouse 3 software (ex. Axiom, Axiom Pro MFDs, etc.). For those seeking to ultimate in high power CHIRP sonar performance, it would recommended that a CP570 CHIRP Sonar Module be installed within the system.
