RS125 Connected to e120 MFD

I have two e120 MFD displays with a Raystar RS125 receiver connected via SeaTalk, which has been connected without modification for 12 years. Last year due to slow start up I replaced the battery in the receiver and it has worked well for the past year until recently. Today I had a flashing red light and no fix on MFD. After several tries through normal start up and shut down, I turned the power off to the MFD to create a hard shutdown. After several minutes the MFD finally received a fix and trying it several times afterward through normal shut down it appears to work normal. Could this have been caused by a failed battery in the receiver or should I look elsewhere if it happens again?

Subbing ST290 DPU with IPS DPU

As the title suggests. Helping a friend with his ST290 system, DPU is DOA. Looking around, there is an abundance of inexpensive IPS DPUs which have all of the same connections. It would be great if one could be used in place of the harder to find and more costly ST290 DPU. Is there any hardware or software differences preventing us from using an IPS DPU on ST290?

Thanks

Hello

My ST4000 is 2005 vintage and has been working fine until recently. Now the charter plotter turns off sometimes when the autopilot is engaged. Is this possibly due the the drive motor age? If so are replacements available?

Thanks

Axiom integrate with ST6002 and ST60+

Thank you for the excellent help forum, this has been a huge asset to be able to search issues and get real world answers.

So here is how the boat is configured now:
C80 display with 18" raydome of same vintage on mast.
AIS 250 receiver (may not be working)
St6002 SmartPilot
St60+ sailing inst. (three, speed and depth with a center AWI)

Would like to upgrade to a Axiom 9" and a Quantum radar. Will all other units function with this MFD? will there be any issues?

On a related note there has been talk of updating the AWI sailing inst to I70 multifunction with new mast head unit (possibly leaving the ST60+ speed and depth units alone?) and adding a newer VHF radio to include AIS receiver as the current Ray 250 seems in-op. Thoughts?

Thank you!

Navigational upgrades

Hello forum,

I recently purchased a sailboat, which was equipped with a RL 70 radar display and an RC 520 chart plotter. As well as an autohelm ST 4000 autopilot with micro logic ML 95 remote.

Unfortunately both the radar display and the chart plotter are LCD and both are too dark to read. The radar display is located in the cockpit and the chart plotter in the cabin. It's my understanding that I can replace the RL 70 with an RL 70c display without having to reconfigure any of the wiring (plug-and-play).

My question is can the RC 520 be as easily replaced with an RC 530 color chart plotter or the SL 530 color chart plotter without having to reconfigure any of the wiring, and still have full usage of the autopilot, and other autohelm instruments.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can I run a Raystar 130 antenna directly into the STng connection on the back of my e120w unit or do I need to run it through a backbone? When I plug my RS130 in it does not power up??

Quantum Radar Issue

I have a new Quantum radome (Q24C) connected wirelessly to a new eS98 which has been functioning well for the past 6months. Last evening while heading offshore for an overnight trip it was turned on and transmitting for a minute or so, then just stopped working... providing an error message "Not available. Scanner failed self test". I restarted the system... still failed... then reset system... still failed... have tried to restart several more time with same failure mode. It will connect fine but not scan when selecting Tx. I'm on a long trip aboard and cannot easily send it back to the Nashua facility. Can you help me?

EV1 Housing Part #

I've looked through the forum to try and find the answer to this but couldn't find anything. I've managed to break one of the four plastic locking clips that secures the top of the EV1 housing to the bottom. Despite following the instructions and being really careful it snapped. The securing bracket, lower housing and EV1 core are fine, but I'm guessing I may need to buy the housing in one piece.
Can you please tell me what the part number is for the housing assy?
Thanks very much.

Quantum radome not communicating via Wi-Fi with an Axiom MFD

Quantum radome not communicating via Wi-Fi with an Axiom MFD

It is recommended that radomes and open array pedestals be powered from a dedicated power circuit , permitting power to the radomes and open array pedestal to be switched ON/OFF without affecting the power state of the system's other marine electronics devices. Should a Quantum radome not detect the presence of a MFD within 10 minutes of the circuit supplying it with power having been energized, then the Quantum radome will enter sleep mode. Sleep mode may only be exited by cycling power to the Quantum radome. If previously paired to the Quantum radome, the MFD's Wi-Fi is configured ON, the power circuit supplying the Quantum radome be energized, and the MFD be unable to communicate with the Quantum radome, then it is recommended that the power circuit supplying the Quantum radome be switched OFF and that it then be switched ON again to force the Quantum radome to restart.

Should awakening the Quantum radome not be achieved via the procedure specified above, then it would be recommended that the vessel be connected to shore power, that its batteries be permitted to achieve a fully charged state, and that afterwards and while still connected to shore power that the system then be tested. Should the system function properly, then the previously reported issue would indicate a low power condition previously existed onboard necessitating more frequent charging, and/or additional battery capacity, and/or battery replacement.

Should the communications problem persist when connected to shore power, then the following procedure may be used to troubleshoot Axiom MFD Wi-Fi communications with a Quantum radome:
1 - verify that the Quantum radome has not been interfaced to the system via its Ethernet communications interface (i.e. via a Quantum Radome Data Cable or Digital Radar Cable w/Y-Cable Adapter). If so, then the Radar application may simply be opened, the Quantum radome commanded ON, and then to transmit. Quantum radomes which have been interfaced to a system of compatible MFDs via Ethernet communications will be unable to communicate with the Quantum radome via Wi-Fi.
2 - verify the SSID and passcode of the Quantum radome (this information is printed on the label affixed to the bottom of the Quantum radome, the package's label, and the product's literature)
3 - verify that the MFD's Wi-Fi (HOME->SETTINGS->THIS DISPLAY->ALLOW DEVICES TO CONNECT VIA WI-FI) has been configured to ON
4 - verify that the MFD's Wi-Fi Communications circuitry is operational by verifying that one of the Raymarine Mobile Apps can communicate with the MFD
5 - switch the power circuit supplying the Quantum radome OFF
6 - switch the power circuit supplying the Quantum radome ON
7 - command the MFD to pair with the Quantum radome (HOME->SETTINGS->THIS DISPLAY->QUANTUM RADAR->PAIR WITH QUANTUM). Be certain pay attention to letter case and accuracy of the SSID and Passcode entered
11 - select the Connect to Quantum Radar dialog's CONNECT button
12 - Open a page featuring the Radar application (ex. HOME->RADAR)
13 - Select the TX (to transmit) or ON (to enter Standby mode) button within radar state dialog within the Radar application

Should the procedure specified above not correct the problem, should no other MFD be paired with the Quantum radome, should the system only contain one radar transmitter, and should voltage test of the circuit supplying the Quantum radome with power reveal no issues, then it would be recommended that a System Settings Reset (HOME->SETTINGS->THIS DISPLAY->RESET->SETTINGS RESET) be performed via the system's Data Master MFD, that the system be re-configured, and that communications with the Quantum radome then be established. Should the problem persist, then the Quantum radome should be sent to Raymarine’s Product Repair Center to be bench tested/serviced.

Tridata

Hi I have 2004 vintage Raymarine instruments. One is a tridata display (speed, temp & depth) using two transducers (depth , and speed/temp).
How do I determine the model number for the display ST60,ST60+,etc.

The reason I am asking is that the speed transducer paddle wheel was damaged and in talking to Airmar they said they needed to know.

raynet configuration

In configuring a new install for a C95 E70012 ( nav station) and a C125 E70013 (helm) with a digital dome Rd418d would it matter which MFD is connected directly (Raynet) to the dome? Should the cable run to the radar dome be as short as possible?

If the dome was connected to the nav station C95 could the radar be controlled ( Off and on ) from the c125 at the helm?

Would the c95 need to be on at all times to access radar from the C125?

Thanks

implications of MFD "master" when using multiple MFDS

$

Hello,

My question pertains to a Lighthouse II (and III) system using E, Es and Axiom equipment, where there may be as many as 3 MFDSs. This is on a sailboat. My plan is to have:

1. a smaller (probably an E97 or ES98) at the helm - can't fit anything larger

2. a large display (Es128) inside the cabin, close to the cockpit / helm, with the advantage of being able to view the larger display close to the helm

3. An additional smaller display ( E97 or ES98) at the nav station, which is further in the boat.

Since I am a typical sailboat, reducing power usage is important, so I may at times have only one MFD powered on, and turn the others on as needed. While the mfd at the helm is most likely to be on most often, there may be times when that is switched off and I use one of the others as master.

Given this, what implications - hardware and software - are there for selecting the master MFD ? How can one obtain maximum flexibility and robustness?

My understanding is that if the master is powered off, one of the other mfds can be selected as the new master (does this happen automatically)?
However there may be certain hardware limitations. For instance if I am using downvision sonar, and the sonar component is built into one of the mfds and the transducer connected to it, then I suppose I couldn't switch off that mfd and still use the sonar (?). Would I be better off with an external sonar "box" that sits on the network instead of within an mfd ? Similar question regarding radar - digital or quantum.

Also when using components such as radar, transducer, that may be either connected directly to an MFD , or connected through the network, is it more robust to have them going to the network, or able to switch to another mfd, than directly into one of the mfds ? I'm asking this in case one of the mfds has a problem and stops functioning.

Thank you !

Splash Screen question

I replaced my 2 E80s with 2 new a series units (127 and 128). I have a file for the 'splash screen' that worked for my 'classic' mfd's, but with the same file work for the a series units? If not, is there a way to change the file? (The splash screen was a 'Tiara Yachts' display when the units were starting up.)

Thanks in advance.

Axiom N2K connection to Suzuki

I have an Axiom 9 connected (N2K) to a DF200AP 2017 Suzuki and I'm only seeing data for RPM and engine trim. I tried using 'discover engine' and it searches and finds nothing, which is weird since its displaying some data from the engine. I double checked the Axiom software is up-to-date and Suzuki reports they provide N2K data for RPM, Alternator Voltage, Engine Hours, Engine temp, Engine Trim, Fuel Rate, Fuel used, Seasonal Fuel used, and Trip fuel used. The smart gauge I have is connected to the same network and displays all data with no problem. I researched the ECI-100, but it doesn't list the Suzuki. Does the Axiom talk to N2K devices and why does it display data but cannot detect the source?

Erratic output from ACU 400

I have installed an ACU 400 and EV1 with a type 3 hydraulic linear drive on my boat which worked well for the first 12 hours or so but now is giving an erratic output. At first the drive would run the pump smoothly but now it is jerking the wheel sometimes violently with the output swinging rapidly between +/- 22 volts. I have tried 2 different rudder references and no rudder reference but it doesn’t change anything. When I changed the electronics I kept the old autopilot in place with a transfer switch so that it can be used as a stand alone back up incase of failure to the new autopilot or stng network. When I switch the system back to the old pilot it runs smoothly so I dont believe that it is a problem with the pump, rudder reference or power supply which just leaves the ACU 400 or EV 1. How can I troubleshoot them to see if they are functioning properly?

Radome mounting angle

I am going to mount a RD418D radome onto the hardtop on my boat. I will mount it on a bracket that is 12 inches high. The hardtop has a 4 degree rise to the bow at idle, and on plane it has a total rise to the bow of 9 degrees. What angle should the radome be mounted at?

Sailboat vs. Sailboat (Slow Turning)

$

I have the EV-1. It was installed prior to my acquiring my Catalina 34. I don't have the rudder sensor.

It was setup using "sailboat".

The issue I'm having is that I have two full turns of the wheel from lock to lock and the wheel pilot never uses more than about about 45 degree wheel rotation to port or starboard, even in situations when I'd temporarily need 180 degrees to do the job.

Would using "Sailboat (Slow Turning)" improve things?

I have done my best to estimate the hard over time and I've left the 30 degree maximum rudder.
