AIS with eS98 missing targets

I find the AIS a great safety tool, and it makes sailing on a busy body of water (SF Bay) more enjoyable. If it works as it should.

I had problems with my older Raymarine AIS and the eS98 and decided sailing is better than trouble shooting so I invested in a new AIS650. To integrate it with my backup navigation system (OpenCPN) I purchased an Actisense Nema 2000 (with Raymarine STng adapter) to USB. Thought all was working fine.

Today I heard Vessel Traffic Service (I typically listen to VHF 14 VTS on the central bay) describe a vessel that I wanted to "vector". I couldn't find it at all, and in fact found NO vessels in the Anchorage 9 area of the Bay. This didn't make sense to me. I checked my OpenCPN, and there were a number of vessels in Anchorage 9. OpenCPN showed them, Raymarine did NOT.

I also heard of traffic coming into the Bay from the ocean, so checked that out and NO traffic in the entrance to the Bay found! OpenCPN, using the exact same data input DID find traffic. I also checked Marine Traffic, an internet tool, for the inbound traffic. I never use this for navigation, but sure enough it showed traffic coming into SF Bay in the shipping channel.

I am so tired of troubleshooting Raymarine MFD/AIS issues. I want to sail, safely. I will also head out to do some coastal cruising very soon and want working AIS especially for that.

Do I have a setting wrong? Wiring wrong? Is the eS98 having problems with integrating AIS? I just want to get this working. Between the old AIS and this new AIS I've spent hours trying to get the system to work.

Attached are five photos. Three show the entrance to SF Bay, all taken within minutes of each other. One is the eS98 display showing NO AIS targets in the entrance to SF Bay. One other is OpenCPN showing TWO vessels transiting in the channel. One other is a screen shot from my smartphone from Marine Traffic and it also shows TWO vessels transiting in the channel.

The other two photos show the system we have on board.

What gives?

Converting SG2 Smartpilot to NMEA 2000 and New Network

Recently updated and older all raymarine network (circa 2005)

I added 3 new Axiom 9s and Digital radar.

Everything seems to be networked and working as it should except the Autopilot.

I bought an Actisense Nmea gateway and wired it directly to the course computer in the NMEA 0183 terminals as instructed and then plugged into the N2K Spine. The MFD can see the Actisense in the N2K spine but MFD does not see the autopilot nor does the autpilot control head ST8002 seem to be tied into the network.

There are 2 terminal blocks on the wiring panel. One is the NMEA 0183 wires from the course computer and tied into that are 2 NMEA 0183 cables that connected to the older E80's. They are now not connected to anything

The other block has the seatalk wires from the course computer tied in w the ST8002 conrol head, RF Base, wireless smart controller, and the cables form those devices that plugged into the MFDs. Those cables too are not tied in to the network rt now.

Q1. On the NMEA side. Have I done this correctly? connecting rt to the course computer and then to the N2K spine?

Q2. What do I do w the seatalk side? Do these need to be converted to N2K also and plugged into the spine? How do I do this?

Thank you

Chris

Link another unit to a57d

Currently I use an a57d in split screen for GPS and fish finder. I would like to link another unit to my a57d so I can run GPS on one and fish finder on another. Is this possible? If so what parts do I need? I would like a 6 to 7 inch or bigger screen.

Does EV1 sensor replace, or compliment Airmar heading sensor when installing EV-10o

I am installing an EV-100 wheel pilot on to my Seatalk backbone for use with my e127 MFD. I have an Airmar heading sensor installed about 5 years ago. It looks like the EV1 sensor core should replace the Airmar, but I want to confirm.

Ray70 Channel Display Issues

Hi,

I have a Ray70 installed on a brand new sailboat. The radio itself works fine. The display shows some of the channels incorrectly.

For example. Channel 16 is displayed correctly; If I go to channel 18, the display read 1018.

This occurs with some of the other channels as well.

How do I fix this issue?

Thank you.

Upgrade questions

Recently I purchased another boat that currently was rigged with the following in 2013:
E62226US E14 Hybrid display 'wide"
RS125 GPS antenna
E92143 4KW Radome
Navionics CF673P chart (Maine only)

Also older rigging:
Ray240 VHF
Fishfinder module is DSM300 -
Transducer is (was) the P66 transom mount. Former owner hit something and it needs replacement.

It is a 27' boat, 9'8" beam, 21 degree dead rise. It has twin 2013 Suzuki 250's tied to E14 via Nema backbone

I see no reason (unless you tell me otherwise) to upgrade the display, radar or vhf. That being said the DSM 300 likely should be upgraded and a new transducer installed.

For background the boat is currently located in Northern Maine. I will be transporting it to Southwest Florida where it's primary use will be fishing the Gulf of Mexico in 50-200 ft of water (generally about 100'). Because I generally bottom fish, quality bottom definition is key.

Questions:

1. Can I easily transfer saved gps marks from a garmin 840xs to the RM or will that be a manual process?

2. From research it appears that the cp470 will not work with the e14 wide. So likely it will be a cp370? What transducer do you recommend, the tm260 or tm258?

3. What Sirius/xm weather module would you recommend for this set up?

4. What is your opinion on the current setup (honesty appreciated) whether it can be upgraded to fit my needs, what those upgrades may be. Or would it be better to install a separate bottom machine and use the current RM for gps/cartography, radar etc.

Thank you in advance for your help on this matter.

Thank you and have a great day!

Transferring data from third party chartplotter to legacy Raymarine MFDs

Transferring data from third party chartplotter to legacy Raymarine MFDs

The following legacy Raymarine MFDs utilized Raymarine's retired proprietary Archive.FSH waypoint/route/track file format when saving waypoint, route, and track data to a memory card:
- A60/A65 Chartplottter and Chartplotter/Fishfinders
- A-Series Classic MFDs (A50, A50D, A57D, A70, A70D)
- C-Series Classic MFDs (C70, C80, C120)
- E-Series Classic MFDs (E80, E120)
- G-Series System (GPM400)
- C-Series Widescreen MFDs (C90W, C120W, C140W)
- E-Series Widescreen MFDs (E90W, E120W, E140W)
- a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs (v13.37 and earlier)
- Dragonfly displays operating with software prior to v9.40 also utilized Raymarine's retired proprietary Archive.FSH waypoint/route/track file format.

Raymarine's Voyage Planner PC navigational planning software supports this file format as well as the non-proprietary and much more commonly supported GPX waypoint/route/track file format. Many third party marine electronics products and navigational software applications also now support GPX file format as well as their own proprietary waypoint/route/track file formats. GPS Utility (a third party PC application) is also a recommended solution for those producing Archive.FSH files from GPX files as well as for producing Archive.fsh files from waypoint/route files/track files employing third party proprietary file formats. If considering use of GPS Utility, it is strongly recommended that the demo version of GPS Utility downloaded to confirm that it supports the file format(s) used by the third party chart plotting product(s) and/or third party navigational planning application(s) which produced or will produce the source file from which the Archive.fsh file will be produced.

Wireless NMEA 2000 connectivity

Chuck,
Is it possible to set up two nav stations with MFDs (and other NMEA instruments) in two widely separated locations and interface each of them to a wireless router so that NMEA cableing does not need to be run as a backbone between the two locations, yet they can still share data. If so, what would be needed in addition to two NMEA compatible wireless routers and each NMEA backbone?

I tried to install a non raymarine analog camera to my a95 using the bnc connector on the power cord that came with the unit and it doesn't work. It seems to meet the requirements needed.
cobra brand, analog bnc connection. 12v. lens 3.6mm
Horizontal resolution 1080p
effective pixels 1920h x 1080v
night vision infrared leds with low light sensor
daylight color
infrared black and white
infrared distance 100 ft
ip66
some of the specs. the a95 states no vide source available. I tried both camera icon and the infrared icon that is on page one.
any suggestions?

DST / Forward sonar interfearence

Is there any way to turn off the DST 800 depth echos, as despite being assured the frequencies of the Forward sonar 200Hz and the DST800 at 235Hz would not conflict, the forward sonar goes into fits when I turn on the instruments which includes the DST800. At this point in time I can not run the Forward sonar and instruments at the same time.
Can I turn off the DST 800 depth pings via software or by installing a physical switch somehow near the ITC5?

The gps position on the vhf/dsc is wrong. Our location is N50 W125 and on radio it shows N40 W50. My question has the older ST50+ GPS receiver failed. If it has failed what can I replace it with on my Setalk system? Thank for any and all help

Airmar DST800v transducer on Seatalkng

$

I recently installed a new Airmar DST800V triducer on my boat and used a Seatalkng adapter cable to attach it to my existing Seatalkng network. When I powered up the system, the e95 MFD recognized a new transducer in the Speed section, but listed it as a DST200. In the Depth settings it showed nothing.
1. How do I get the e95 to recognize the triducer?
2. Does temperature show up somewhere on the MFD?

Waypoint Displayed On Weather Application

This thread is being written to request a future software update of the Lighthouse application for the weather e125 MFD used with a SR150 SiriusXM receiver.

It is being requested that an optional layer be added to the weather application such that weather information can be readily related to waypoints.

It is NOT being requested that the ability to manipulate waypoint information similar to that possible on the chart application be allowed.

Axiom/Quantum

I’m contemplating replacing my E80 Classic/radar installation with a pair of Axioms and a Quantum. I’ve reviewed the latest Lighthouse manual for Axiom (v3.2) and also played with some of the hardware at the local dealer (though that was running v3.0 software).

I have some additional questions the dealer couldn’t answer so I went to the Annapolis Powerboat show to talk to the Raymarine folks. Unfortunately they weren’t there — I guess RM only attended the Sailboat show this year.

And so I’m directing my questions here. Thanks for your patience.

I’ve attached drawings of my current network and proposed Axiom-based configuration.

Q1: Axiom units are sold w/o charts or with LSA, NAG, or CSA charts. Are there any difference in the Axiom HW between the offerings? Assuming no, can I buy any of the models and swap in charts from different vendors down the road?

Q2: If purchasing an Axiom with a chart, does the price include any chart upgrades? For example, 1-year of Navionics Freshest Data when buying a NAG configuration?

Q3: Is the NAG option the same card on the 7, 9, and 12 versions? I see the incremental price for adding the NAG option to these units is different ($50 vs. $100 vs. $200)

Q4: With 2 Axiom units, is it correct that only one must be populated with a chart card, and that unit (the Data master) can share the charts just as my E80s can?

Q5: With 2 Axiom units one must be the Data master. In my configuration it will be difficult to reach the SD card slot on the Data master. Can the slot on the slave be used to a) load GPX files to be available on both units, b) load software updates to the Data master, and c) install software for other Raymarine devices such as the Evolution AP and RS130? Or do I need to buy an A80440 for the Data master?

Q6: Has the A80440 been released?

Q7: The two Axiom units in my proposed configuration will possibly be different sizes, used for different purposes. Is it possible to configure their displays independently? (My thought is to create two different ‘user’ profiles, each profile tailored to my needs on a particular Axiom.) Is it then possible for each Axiom to be running a different profile simultaneously?

Q8: I have no need for a finder and intend to continue to use my DT800 (currently available on my STNG network). Using the DT800 for depth info, will the Navionics Sonar Logging & SonarChart Live features be available?

Q9: On the v3.0 units I saw, rudder position seemed to be displayed as a graphic bar and only on certain display pages. Is the rudder position data also available as a numeric value that be used as a data overlay or on a dashboard page?

Q10: I believe v3.2 will give me full control of my Evolution AP. Correct? Will it also allow me to continue to use my S100 remote?

Q11: I believe v3.2 will allow me to perform software updates on all of my Raymarine equipment from the Axioms. Correct? (Note: I do not see an option to download software for the RS130 via an Axiom here: http://www.raymarine.com/view/?id=13420 nor for ST converter here: http://www.raymarine.com/view/?id=3767 )

Q12: Is the ONLY difference between the Quantum models the presence of support for using a data cable rather then Wifi?

Q13: Can a Wifi-only Quantum be upgraded via Wifi?

Q14: Can I disable the internal GPS receivers and have the Axioms use the existing RS130 instead? Is there any benefit or harm to this approach?

Q15: The Lighthouse manual, in the section on Dashboards says: “You can import custom pages that have been created using approved PC based page creation software. Please refer to Raymarine Product support for more details.” What is this capability? Is it available to end-users?

Q16: Can an Axiom connect to a Quantum via Wifi and simultaneously drive the mobile apps?

Q17: I believe the Quantum is an 18”. Will I loose anything significant compared to my current analog 24” radar (model unknown)?

Q18: When connected via Wifi, must the Quantum be connected to the Data master? Or can it connect to a non-master (if that unit has a better signal path)?

Converting from old Analog Radar

I just upgraded my MFD from a C80 to a C95. Of course, now I need to upgrade the analog radar.

I would like to purchase a new Raymarine Quantum™ Wireless CHIRP Radar with the ethernet port.

My question is can I purchase an adapter cable to utilize the existing power that is on the old cable. I would rather that than ave to snake a new cable through the mast.

I don't plan on using the ethernet port but figure if the wifi becomes problematic O have a way out

Thanks

ITC-5 Transducer led status

Hello,
I have an ITC-5 connected to a I70s and a depth transducer P319 which was originally connected to a ST60+ depth display.
I removed the ST60+ and connected the transducer to the ITC-5, the transducer status led on the ITC-5 keeps blinking like nothing is connected to the depth terminal.
The boat is out of the water so I can't see any depth reading on the I70s, only tree dashes.
When I touch the face of the transducer, under the boat I can feel it is working.
Should the transducer light on the ITC-5 become steady when the boat is on the water?
Is there any way to find out if everything is connected and running as it should, before putting the boat on the water?

Thank you
