E120 data feed, move from Seatalk 1 to Seatalk ng

Hi, I've search the threads but can't find the answer. Simple question:

I'm installing a Seatalk ng backbone in a vessel with a pair of HS networked E120 classics. The primary E120 received all its data via the Seatalk 1 bus. Now with an ng bus, I believe I use an adapter to feed all the data from the ng bus to the Seatalk 2 input on the primary E120 and MUST disconnect the old Seatalk 1 bus, true? Is there any system configuration settings to change in the E120 to make it look at the Seatalk 2 input?

Oh, I should note, there is a Seatalk1 to ng bridge in the system now as well.

Thanks

Radar Setup from c120 to e120w

I'm upgrading my boat from a c120 to an e120w display I have. I have a pathfinder radar and also a rd 218. I know I can't use an analog radar with the e120w. What digital radar should I use. Is there a work around for the rd218. it's in great shape. What type of radar cable do I need with a newer digital radar. I think I need a seatalk cable now to interface with my dsm 300. what cables, and seatalk components do I need to make that work?

Sorry for all of the questions but any help would be appreciated. Paul

Replacement radar transducers for E-Series Classic MFDs and C/E-Series Widescreen MFD

Replacement radar transducers for E-Series Classic MFDs and C/E-Series Widescreen MFDs, and G-Series GPM400.

The subject MFDs are not compatible with Quantum radar transducers. The following radar transducers featuring an Ethernet communications interface are compatible with E-Series Classic MFDs (E80, E120), C-Series Widescreen MFDs (C90W, C120W, C140W), E-Series Widescreen MFDs (E90W, E120W, E140W), and the G-Series GPM400:

- RD418D 4kW 18" Digital Radome (retired)
- RD424D 4kW 24" Digital Radome (retired)
- RD418HD 4kW 18" HD Digital Radome
- RD424HD 4kW 24" HD Digital Radome
- RA1048HD 4kW 48" HD Color Open Array
- RA1072HD 4kW 72" HD Color Open Array
- RA3048HD 12kW 48" HD Color Open Array
- RA3072HD 12kW 72" HD Color Open Array
- RA1048SHD 4kW 48" SHD Color Open Array
- RA1072SHD 4kW 72" SHD Color Open Array
- RA3048SHD 12kW 48" SHD Color Open Array
- RA3072SHD 12kW 48" SHD Color Open Array

The above listed radar transducers must be interfaced to the system via a Digital Radar Cable or cable assembly constructed from a Digital Radar Extension Cable and a Digital Radar Cable. The latter is recommended for sailing vessels.

While the E-Series Classic MFDs were compatible with a line of Raymarine radar transducers featuring an analog video interface, these radar transducers have not been offered for several years. If seeking a replacement radar transducer for an E-Series Classic MFD, then it is recommended that one of the above listed radar transducers along with a Digital Radar Cable be purchased.

CP370 Installation

I am currently using the built-in sonar functionality of my ES97. It is connected directly to a B164 1000 Watt transducer. However, the ES97 will only operate at 600 Watts. I am hoping that adding a CP370 will improve performance as it will operate at 1000 Watts. My issue is space - not a lot of places for me to but the CP370 box. The manual says "Note: Raymarine recommends mounting the unit vertically." I found a good location close to the power source and MFD with plenty of air space around it but it would require it to be mounted horizontally. Is there any issue with mounting it horizontally? Any components that sense orientation? I will still be able to see the status light if needed, but I assume this is a device you rarely look at.

Splicing instrument wires

Hi I have a ST-800 speed /temp transducer plastic vintage 2004. It got damaged when my boat was hauled this fall. Can I buy a new transducer and interface it to my existing tridata display by cutting the old transducer cable say 4 ft from the transducer then splice this cut cable to my new transducer cable . (do not intend to cut new cable). Thinking on making the splice connection using a terminal block high up in the engine room. If this is possible are they any pointers you can offer. The splicing would save me a lot of time as opposed to routing the new transducer cable to the tridata display
Thanks

SPX-5 as backup to EV-200

Apologies if some of this has been asked - Search didn't find it.

I have an EV-200 on my 30' sailboat and I'm considering re-installing my old SPX-5 as a backup. It's a tiller-steered boat and I use cockpit-mounted tiller drives with no rudder reference. All software is up to date.

1) Do I need to re-install the old heading sensor or will the heading data from the EV-1 work with both ACUs? The EV-1 seems to be the better sensor so I'd rather use it for both ACUs.

2) Can the P70 control both pilots via the SeaTalk ng backbone? Can the second pilot be on Standby or must it be powered off?

3) I have a switch between the ACU-200 and the tiller drive (I currently use a non-Raymarine autopilot as a backup). Will I need to isolate the EV-200 and SPX-5 further?

I've done this before with the X-5 and an old 4000+ with no conflicts. With that setup I didn't even need the drive switch. I mostly race and if one AP fails I need to be able to switch quickly.

Axiom software update

I have installed two Axiom 12" MFDs on the boat. It is difficult for me to get to the cards on the back of the units. I did an update last week and tried to plug the card reader into the USB port, hoping that I could load the software that way. However, it did not work.

If I can get this to work, I can mount a external USB, duel port connector, use one port for each display, on the dash and I will not have to remove the dash to update the software. Am I doing something wrong or is this a feature to be added later (or never)?

Axiom with RMK-10 remote

Hi, I would like to have two Axiom displays side by side in my electronics console. I do not have space for two Axiom Pro units but can fit two Axiom Touch displays. I would add one RMK-10 remote to control both displays, is there a need to install a remote for each display as the one remote will control both? Will this give the same functionality as two Axiom Pro's? Would it actually be better to install two Axiom Touch panels instead of two Axiom Pros's given that the RMK-10 will operate both? How well would the RMK-10 remote control two display screens and the autopilot?

e125 Network Drop

I have an e125 with direct network connections to Radom and CP that drop their connections simultaneously. I suspect the network card in the MFD as I can reboot the MFD and connections are regained, yet both will drop again in time. Has this issue been experienced before and what was the solution?

Lightning Strike-Getting a major upgrade

Chuck, my 2005 390DA has suffered a lightning strike through shore power and many components were affected. The electronics tech has noted both C-120s and the S3G were damaged. The RM 240E VHF still works. He's recommending the Axiom 12 MFDs, and ECU-200. Because of compatibility issues with the Axioms, the original 4KW open array radar will also need to be replaced.

Can the 7001+ head still be used or will I need a P70R?

Can the Gyroplus 2 SHS Smart Heading System still be used or will I need the EV Sensor Core?

Is the DST 800 transducer compatible?

Is the new Axiom system compatible with my VesselView 1.5?

What else should I consider upgrading or other questions should I ask?

Making DSC call using AIS

I have a Raymarine AIS650 and an ICOM 506 VHF radio.

I want to know if I integrate the VHF via NMEA 0183 to the NMEA 0183 pigtail on the AIS power cord can I make a DCS call to another vessel that I can see on AIS without having to manually enter the MMSI # of that vessel?

I know that certain companies can do this but they advertise this w using both of their own devices working together.

Configure Alarm Volume

Is there a way to adjust the alarm volume on a-series MFD in Lighthouse v17 ? I found a thread stating "Raymarine MFDs do not feature a configuration setting whereby there owners may configure the frequency and/or volume of alarms sounded by the MFD" ... looking for confirmation.

Reuse SeatalkHS for RayNet

I have 2 E80 Classics connected via a SeatalkHS cable (with RJ45s). I am replacing the E80s with Axioms. I want to reuse the current cable rather than trying to fish a new one from the upper to lower station. I see Raymarine offers a number of adapters for this purpose (I think A80247 is what I need).

Q1. The current SeatalkHS cable has a E55060 Crossover Coupler in the middle. Do I need to keep this coupler in-place when repurposing the cable for RayNet?

Note this cable will be the only RayNet cable I will have (Axiom-Axiom). There will be no switch involved.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks.

Wondering if anyone has reported their Axiom turning itself on?

The last two times I have left my boat for 5 days or more I have removed the cover and found the unit powered on. I am certain that I had powered off the unit prior to putting the cover on it.

Testing Raymarine equipment

I purchased a boat with both an SR-6 satellite receiver and and DSM-300 sounder instrument mounted but not connected.

Before I invest in hooking up either, what's the best way to determine if they are fully functional?

Is there a Raymarine mail-in test service?

A brief search has not made that clear to me.

Thanks
