Replacing an a/c/e/eS-Series MFD(s) with an Axiom MFD(s)

MOUNTING: At the time that this FAQ was posted, Raymarine had not released adapter plates for mounting an Axiom MFD within the flush mounting [censored] of an a/c/e/eS-Series MFD. Mounting templates and cut-out / footprint dimension for the Axiom MFDs may be found here. Mounting templates and cut-out / footprint dimension for the a/c/e-Series MFDs may be found here. Mounting templates and cut-out / footprint dimension for the eS-Series MFDs may be found here.

Please note that the Axiom MFDs may not be installed within an Ethernet (SeaTalkhs/RayNet) network which additionally includes a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs until Raymarine releases software update permitting such. Please click here to view a FAQ addressing this subject. Following the release of LightHouse 3 software for a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs, Raymarine’s Axiom MFDs and a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs may be mixed or matched in any combination within an Ethernet network. Once updated, the Axiom MFDs and a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs will share all system data (except for NTSC/PAL video) with one another via the Ethernet network to which they will be interfaced.

POWER: Axiom MFDs are designed be powered via the Power/NMEA 2000 Cable included within the package of the the Axiom MFD. Accordingly, the currently installed E-Series MFD Power/NMEA 0183/Video Input Cable will need to be replaced with the Power/NMEA 2000 Cable supplied with the Axiom MFD. Axiom MFDs are designed to be powered from a 12VDC power circuit.

ETHERNET: Should the a/c/e/eS-Series MFD currently be interfaced one other compatible Raymarine product having an Ethernet communications interface, then the RayNet Cable may simply be unplugged from the a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD and then be plugged into the Axiom MFD's Ethernet Network socket. As Axiom MFDs have only one Ethernet Network socket, should the currently installed a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD be interfaced to two or more compatible devices having an Ethernet communications interface, then the Axiom MFD would, as would the other compatible devices having an Ethernet Network communications interface, instead need to be interfaced to an A80007 HS5 RayNet Network Switch.

SEATALKNG / NMEA 2000: Should the Data Master a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD be interfaced as a spur to a SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone, then the Data Master Axiom MFD will instead be interfaced to the SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone.
Should the vessel's SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone have been constructed using SeaTalkng networking components, then an an A06045 15.7in (0.4m) DeviceNet (F) to SeaTalkng Spur Adapter or A06075 39.4in (1.0m) DeviceNet (F) to SeaTalkng Spur Adapter may be used to adapt the Axiom MFD's DeviceNet Micro-C (M) plug to be mated to a SeaTalkng spur socket of a SeaTalkng backbone. Should the vessel's SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone have been constructed using third party networking components featuring DeviceNet Micro-C plugs and sockets, then the Axiom MFD's DeviceNet plug may be interfaced as a spur to the NMEA 2000 backbone via an appropriate length (up to 6m) of spur cable from the supplier of the system's NMEA 2000 networking components.

NMEA 0183: The NMEA 0183 leads of any NMEA 0183 devices which are presently interfaced to the E-Series Classic MFD's NMEA Cable will need to be disconnected from this cable and will instead be interfaced to a NMEA 0183 to SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 data bridging device(s) (ex. Actisense NGW-1-ISO-STNG, Actisense NGW-1-ISO-AIS, etc.), which in turn will be interfaced as a spur(s) to the SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone.

EXTERNAL ALARM: Please click here to view a FAQ addressing how to add an alarm to an Axiom MFD or a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD.

RADAR: Please click here to view a FAQ addressing how to add radar features to an Axiom MFD or a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD.

Video Input: Raymarine’s Axiom MFDs support video input exclusively from IP video sources (ex. CAM210IP, CAM220IP, FLIR M100/M200 Thermal Camera, etc.). Accordingly, should the a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD have been interfaced to an analog video source, then this source would need to be encoded with a third party video encoder (H.264/MPEG-4 AVC) to viewed via the Axiom MFD.

Video Output: Video output is not available from Axiom MFDs.

FISHFINDER(s): Please click here to view a FAQ addressing how to add fishfinder features to an Axiom MFD. Axiom MFDs are not compatible with the DSM30, DSM300, CP300, and CP450C.

PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION: While the replacement of this equipment is well within the capabilities of those familiar with marine electronics equipment installation, there will be some cable splicing and cable chasing required. Should this not be within your comfort zone or skills, then click here to locate a Certified Raymarine Installer in your area.

Hi Chuck. I'm having a problem with this unit. Serial number 0980024. We were out cruising on the lake Friday and it stopped at about a quarter turn rotation. Turned power off and back on turn displays on and off etc cannot get it to turn on. Displays won't connect with it either. I'm getting 13.8 V on the two female pins on the cable. Not sure where to go from here. Hoping you can help.

Can you advise whether I can simply switch out a new Axiom for my older e7 display? Are the connections the same and is the mounting template the same?

Display Hood Accessory

Lighthouse manual says
"If, due to the required installation location, exposure to these elements is anticipated then it is recommended that you consider:
attaching a third-party ‘display hood accessory’ to reduce direct sunlight exposure and the volume of water that the display is exposed to."

Does someone actually make one of these for the eS97? Or is this simply kicking the can into someone else's yard?
Thanks

New Quantum not displaying images on E125

Installing a Quantum connected to a E125 and cannot get any images on the E125. Its picking up the Quantum, the radar icon is rotating and I can hear it in the dome however it is not displaying any images. I just updated thinking that may be the issue, however it did not fix it. I have it hardwired and just connected via WiFi. Any ideas on a solution?

Fishfinder issues with Dragonfly 6

Previously posted thread re: issues with my Dragonfly 6 (http://forum.raymarine.com/showthread.php?tid=2409)

I have performed a software update and although the GPS takes a long time to get a fix, it eventually does. Unfortunately the fish finder functionality "locks up" and shows no data after short periods of time (20 minutes or so of drifting or after moving the boat at planing speeds). This also affects the depth finder which will show obviously wrong numbers (shows 30 ft. when in 5 ft of water and the numbers do not update). Water temperature and speed always seem to update correctly (when GPS is fixed).

The only way to get the fish finder to work again is to do a full reboot which now causes me to lose GPS for another 5-10 minutes. I have checked the connection to the transducer but do not see any issues.

TIA

All instruments showing dashes

I have a network of i70 instrument heads that show speed, depth, wind, AIS, etc. They have been working for a number of years and suddenly started showing dashes. All instrument heads are on/powered but no data is being shown from any of the transducers or sources. So not a power issue as the displays are lit up, which should mean that this isn't a problem with a cable coming loose. Seems to be a Seatalk issue. I also checked the 5-way connector and it is showing a green light so network seems powered up. Chart plotter still working fine, though not getting any data like depth or wind from the network either.

Wondering what might cause this. Could it be a terminator fell off? Something else? Happened suddenly while sailing so no other system changes took place to trigger it.

Thanks in advance.

I used the format described in the manual to input polars for my boat. Where is that data used or displayed? If it got the data correctly upon import, what would look different?

Axiom Questions

Good afternoon,

I bought the AXIOM 9 RV Multi-Function Display with RealVision™ Transducer, just installed at the boat and tried it in a few fishing trips, good technology but I’m having some problems with the equipment.

The main problem is the max depth of the real vision (90m, I knew of it when I bought it) I’m planning on improving the equipment by buying the CP370 sonar, the main recommended transducers are mainly through hull, which I don’t really like because I really like to keep the integrity of the hull.

First question, I called westmarine and they told me to buy the CP370 and install it with the CPT-100 transducer. Is this perception ok? What are the pros or cons? Will this combo work perfect?

Next question, when I got the equipment I told west marine I need Navionics + for Gulf Coast of México, they sent US card, they are asking me to call raymarine and make the swap directly, you think this will work?

Last questions, at some points of the fishing trip, the transducer is sending some crazy information to the display, attached is the picture, any thoughts on the causes? Maybe bad installation or inteference?

Thank you,
EM

DSM 300 Issues

The Airmar Transducer - B60-200-RAY 50/200 (depth + temperature)
connects to the DSM300, and the DSM connects to the E120. This arrangement has worked fine for a number of years, but last summer it started to sound loud "beeps" preiodically and lose the signal to the E120. In addition, the indicator light on the DSM would go from green to orange. Then, after couple minutes, things would get back to normal. The situation continues this year.
Suspecting the xducer cable plug and /or DSM socket, quite often I can correct the situation by moving the cable slightly, so I installed a plastic tie on the cable just before the connector. It seems to help, but not always. My guess would be a defective xducer connector or socket on the DSM.
Any suggestions as to how I can identify and correct the culprit?

Chuck,

In many of the postings I've read here, users have shared system diagrams and other images. However, when I view the posts, the images are stripped. The only place I have seen pictures of any kind are on your posts.

Do I have a forum setting incorrect in my profile? Or is there an option that a Forum Administrator needs to adjust to allow for images posted by users to allow them to be seen?

Getting lots of good information here, and look forward to continue to grow my personal "knowledge base."

Thanks,

Joe

Evolution Autopilot--Speed Data Source

$

I have a P70/ACU-200/EV-1/Linear Drive system. It is interfaced via ST-STNG converter to my older wind, depth, speed Raymarine ST60 instruments. It is also interfaced vie the ST-STNG converter to my SL72 Plus radar/chart plotter.

When first installed, the autopilot worked well *except* when my paddle wheel speed transducer would occasionally get fouled and my speed-through-the-water would drop to zero and the autopilot would go nuts and steer me in random directions.

About two months ago (April 2017), I borrowed an MFD and updated the firmware on all components to the current versions and went through the calibrations again. My understanding is that this more recent firmware has addressed my speed problem by allowing the system to use some other speed value (e.g., SOG from the GPS or a pre-set cruising speed) should the speedo get stuck. But I don't see any place in the setup menus where I'm supposed to specify what it's supposed to do if the speed-through-the-water data is missing. Or does the system now just "know" what to do?

The updated firmware works great otherwise, but so far the speedo has not gotten jammed so have not been able to confirm that the update fixed the issue.

Thanks!

Digit height & other considerations for i40 Depth vs. i50 Depth

$

We are comparing the i40 and i50 Depth systems as candidates for replacing our very old Standard Horizon depth display and transducer.

From the images it seems like the depth readout digits on the i40 Depth display might be smaller than those on the i50 Depth display.

The i40 and i50 documents both describe a maximum digit height of 28mm.

Does this mean the depth digits are the same height for these two displays?

If the depth readout digits are the same on both, we would consider the i40 to have these advantages over the i50: the main cutout [censored] is smaller, four additional mounting screw holes are not needed, and it consumes slightly less power.

We are not trying to match the look of existing or future instrument installations and are not interfacing the Depth system to any other devices. Are there other characteristics we should be considering in deciding between these two Depth systems?
