Can a Type 300 Autopilot Course Computer be interfaced to a ST-STng Converter?

Can a Type 300 Autopilot Course Computer be interfaced to a ST-STng Converter?

Raytheon/Autohelm autopilot course computer designs such as the Type 300 Autopilot Course Computer (see photo below), ST4000, and ST5000 supported an earlier version of SeaTalk communications protocol than did the Raymarine autopilot course computer designs having a SeaTalk communications interface which succeeded them (ex. Type 150, Type 400, ST4000+, ST5000+, S1/S1G, S2/S2G, S3/S3G, SPX5/10/30, etc.).

Due to the differences in these versions of SeaTalk communications protocol, it is not recommended that a SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter be used as a data bridge with these Raytheon autopilot course computers. Instead, it is recommended that such Raytheon autopilot course computers be interfaced to the system via NMEA 0183 communications protocol. Should the system to be interfaced to not feature a MFD having a NMEA 0183 communications interface and have a SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone, then it would be recommended that a NMEA 0183 to SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 data bridging device (ex. Actisense NGW-1-ISO-STNG, etc.) be used to interface the autopilot to the SeaTalkng backbone.

Autopilot for 1990 Alpha One Cable Steer I/O?

Hello, I have a 1990 Searay 220OV with a cable steer power assisted Mercruiser Alpha One Gen 1 I/O drive. I am considering installing an auto pilot in it this year. It looks like I would need to purchase the EV200 system along with a steering actuator. Does anybody have any experience with a similar setup? The M81138 Electromechanical Drive says that it is for 1997 or later. I can only find a handful of places to purchase this and it looks like you have to specify what your drive is to get the appropriate brackets for install. I am also seeing some websites saying that it is for 1987 and newer I/O's but nowhere do I see a spot to specify this. I am trying to figure out my options without having to convert the boat over to hydraulic steering.

Getting acquainted with Quantum

I’m getting familiar with my new Quantum wifi-only radar, paired with an es78 MFD. I have a few questions not addressed in the manuals.

1. I have the Quantum powered through a manual 12 volt on-off rocker switch. Can I turn the radar off by using the power switch instead of going through the MFD’s stand-by, then power-off sequence? Or would shutting the power off manually be disruptive to the software or hardware of the radar or MFD?

2. The manual (p. 263) indicates that I can adjust the transmit frequency of the Quantum (high, normal, or low.) I believe I was once able to do so, but now that control is greyed out for me, regardless of other settings or the radar’s status. The difference possibly occurred after I did a factory reset of the MFD to clear all settings. I have software versions 17.45 for the MFD and 1.46 for radar. (I know there are later versions, but they appear to only address wifi connectivity issues.) Any idea why a can’t change frequency anymore?

3. The radar is fantastic for nearby targets, but are there any tricks or adjustments for extending its maximum usable range for smaller targets? My unit is mounted 8 feet up and level to the water with an unobstructed view. On a calm sea and clear day, I have a hard time picking up small 20-30 ft center console boats in plain sight visually when more than about 1.5 miles away. Same for 30-40 foot sportfisher boats more than 2.5 miles away, and yacht sized vessels more than 3.5 miles away. I’ve already tried turning up gain, reducing the sea clutter filter, using target “expansion,” and turning on “trails” so that I can identify small targets that don’t show on every sweep. Is there anything else to try, and is this performance about typical?

Thanks.

Which Evolution Autopilot to Use to Replace Simrad

I have a 2006 vintage Simrad AP16 Autopilot with AC20 course computer hooked up to my Raymarine C127 and C120, Raymarine Radar, and Raystar 130 GPS receiver on a Seatalkng network. I want to replace the Simrad autopilot with a Raymarine unit. The Simrad uses a Robertson RPU160 reversing hydraulic steering pump and a Simrad RF300 rudder feedback unit. The RPU160 pump has a capacity of 9.8 ci to 33.5 ci at 12V, max 10 amps. 1) Should I be looking at the EV-200 or EV-400? I've seen some literature that says the EV-200 will work with a Type 2 hydraulic pump and other literature that says it won't. 2) Can I use the Robertson pump with the Raymarine ACU or do I have to replace it with a Raymarine pump? 3) Can I use the Simrad rudder feedback unit or do I need to replace that with the Raymarine rudder feedback module? Thanks for your help.

I have a c127 with a P58 transducer, would like to split screen showing results from both frequencies. I am sure it must be in the manual and FAQ somewhere but not finding it. It keeps asking me to select one or the other, not both.

I'm purchasing a boat with a pair of G120 MFDs, but the boat doesn't have sonar. Could you please help me understand which of your current sonar modules are compatible with the G120? I'm looking for a unit for offshore fishing.

Thank you!

Autopilot Application SPX10 vs SPX30

Can I replace my SPX30 with an SPX10? I have a type 2 long actuator and the sailboat is 15 tons. If the integrated solenoids will not handle the current I can use external relays so that the current is very low. The main reason is cost. I already have the relays. Looks to me that the only difference in the two is the load capability of the actuator relays. There is input for the rudder reference and fluxgate compass. I assume that the course keeping ability is the same. Comments please...........

E120 Upgrade

A while back (2-3 years) we replaced an E120 with what was known as "New e-series" and a bezel that installed perfectly to cover the [censored]. I understand that this combination is no longer available. Now we have five or so E120s to replace with space limitations. Is there something new to cover the existing [censored] with or without a bezel? Recommendations? Thank you.

I would like to replace my old E80 with the 12 inch Axiom can I use my existing Airmar M260 in hull transducer with the new unit. It is currently connected through
a DSM 300?
If so can it connect directly or does it still need to go through the DSM?

ray240 showing "no gps"

In my 2006 Sea Ray 44DB I have a factory installed Raymarine E120 (classic) chartplotter with all the bells and whistles (radar, autopilot, DSM300, etc). Everything works well but I have a couple of minor annoyances that I'm looking for advice on:

1. Ray240 VHF radio works well but is not talking to the chartplotter, says "no gps" on VHF display, so the DSC feature is not as useful.

This boat had the helm disassembled during transport, so something may have gotten wired wrong.

I'm a techie, but I know very little about the communications between these types of devices. I cannot find a wiring diagram from Sea Ray, so I'm looking for ideas.

How is the Ray240 and e120 normally interfaced?

Thank you.

CPT-200 Transducer mounting height

CPT-200 Transducer mounting height

As the SideVision products are designed to produce imagery exclusively when operating at trolling speeds, the CPT-200 need not be installed as low (relative to the hull's bottom) as a transducer which has been designed to skim the water surface (ex. p58, p66, CPT-100, etc.). Accordingly, the CPT-200 need only be installed low enough on the transom to permit its elements to be completely submerged when operating at trolling speeds. By mounting the transducer higher, on the transom, the transducer will also produce less spray and will be subjected to less hydrodynamic forces when operating the boat at high speeds.

Will the all in one Axiom transducers do 600w 50/200hz also? The adds reference the MFD's doing all 4 but the details on the transducers only list the 3 chirp ones. If not then how do you get all 4? 2 transducers same MFD?

VoyagePlanner verion 1.3.0.11 MFD link

I have a Raymarine E125 that is connected to my onboard network, and I have two problems with the VoyagePlanner software (I just updated VP today) .

First it will not show any of my purchased maps even though it can connect over internet and show me my account information. When I try and locate my purchased products via VP, it just shows no charts at all. A small window will pop up very quick and then closes.

Second I cannot get VP to connect to my MFD (E125 running latest lighthouse) it currently uses wifi to connect to onboard router, when VP is connected to same router it does not find anything. I have even tried connecting to the shared wifi connection that the E125 has (this works with RayViewer and RayRemote) but does not work with VP.

Oh and the support email link listed in VP is incorrect the link in the product is Raymarine@custhelp.com.

Interface EV-100 Sail to Raymarine wind transducer

$

Hi

I have a small sailboat with an EV-100 Sail (wheel) Autopilot. I want to acquire a wind transducer so I can use the autopilot to stay at the same wind angle not just a compass course.

I cant figure which model to get and how this connects to the ACU-100 or the P70 - it's unclear to me how SeaTalk network works here.

Thanks for any help!
