I have one AIS transponder that is connected to two E127's via NMEA2000 network. One E127 is at an upper helm with a VHF radio and the second E127 is at the lower helm with a second VHF radio. How do I get AIS/GPS data to both VHF radios? The radios have NMEA0183 connections.

Airmar H2183 connection via STNg to slaved e95

I purchased the Airmar H2183 and will install into my current Raymarine architecture. I am running dual e95s, SR6 network, and one backbone kit. Based on my current software for the e95s (believe 14.xx or 15.xx) I should be able to connect the Airmar H2183 via 0183 or STNg. I would like to connect via STNg, but the only port I have available (without buying a second backbone and associated cabling) is into the slaved e95 as my current backbone goes into master e95 via STNg spur. My question is, if this will work or should I go with a second backbone or lastly connect via 0183?

Chart/Sonar Problem

I have a Dragonfly Pro7 which has developed an issue when using the chart/sonar option. The sonar portion is distorted. Sonar by itself is ok. Attached pictures show the issue before and after updating software. Two of the pictures are out of the water so the images reflect this, but you can still see the line on the right side of the sonar portion while the sonar only is ok. I updated software and reset sonar and still have the same issue. Suggestions?

A98 ST50 ST60 Quantum Raystar 130 "suite"

Hello Charles,

Very much appreciate the service you provide on this forum!

I'm trying to set up a new "suite" of electronics for my boat.

The boat presently has:
- ST60 SmartPilot autopilot and fluxgate compass
- ST60 depth instrument with the lexan transducer

They work well and I plan to keep them.

I have purchased some new equipment:
- A98 display
- Quantum Q24C radar
- CPT 110 bottom sounding transducer
- Raystar 130 antenna
- Seatalk ST1-STNG converter
- Standard Horizon GX2100 VHF radio with AIS

I also have some older ST50 instruments that I'd like to install with the new gear. They include
- ST50 wind speed and direction
- ST50 depth (for use as a repeater)
- ST50/ST60 compass heading (have both)
- ST50 boat speed (no transducer)
- ST50 NavData

Goals:

1. Be able to sail with the A98 and autopilot off and still be able to use the ST50 and ST60 depth, compass, wind and speed instruments, as well as get latitude and longitude from the ST50 NavData instrument.

2. Be able to sail with the A98 and autopilot off and still be able to use the navigation and AIS functions on the Standard Horizon VHF, which requires a latitude and longitude input from a NMEA interface.

3. Install the CPT110 transducer inside the hull (perhaps in an oil bath) but keep the present ST60 lexan transducer thru-hull so that I have both.

4. Use the ST50 Speed instrument as a repeater that displays only calculated SOG (presumably from the Raystar 130 antenna...I don't want to have a thru-hull speed transducer / paddlewheel.)

FWIW, I'm not too concerned about displaying AIS data on the A98 if that is going to be difficult.

I've attached a block diagram of the sensors and display components to aid in thinking about the system. Essentially it lays things out geographically from bow to stern:
- vicinity of the mast
- nav station
- companionway
- helm
- stern

Your thoughts on the "reasonableness" of my four goals above and any related thoughts would be much appreciated!

New RayControl compatibility device list

I know you folks can't promise anything, but there's a lot of room for improvement/additions in your list of Android-compatible devices. Seems it's been a while since anything new has been added.

Please consider adding the Sony Z-series phones and tablets. It'd be a personal gift if the Z4 made the next update.

Aren't you about due for an update?

Never hurts to ask, right? ;-)

I know it's got to be tough to certify everything.

If it will help, I'll offer to ship you my Z4 so you can use it for the cert tests.

PM me if that's an option.

I currently have an a78 mdcp (multi display chart plotter) and am hopefully, if I am on the good list, will be getting the ok to purchase the eS78 radar system. The a78 is mounted below and the eS78 mounted at the helm. Will these two units communicate easily?
Thanks for letting me join forum.

e95 vs. e97

What is the difference between the Raymarine e95 and e97? I don't know what the Sonar addition is for the e97. It does not appear to come with the transducer, so is it just the e95 with the capability to interpret Sonar input? Also is there anything other than looks that is different about the eS95?

Two MFD's and two VHF's

I have two E127's and two VHF radios. One E127 and one VHF is at the upper helm and the other E127 and VHF is at the lower helm. I would like to enable the DSC function on both radios. Each radio has NMEA0183 inputs. I also have an AIS connected on the NMEA2000 bus to both E127's and an auto pilot connected to the upper helm E127 via NMEA0183. How do you recommend enabling the DSC function on both VHF radios?

Can two SeaTalk NG 5-Way connectors be placed in series provided the 5-Way units are connected to one another via backbone cable and properly terminated, etc.?

What could be wrong with my EV-100 autopilot?

There must be a simple answer to this. In short, the EV-100 AP (power version; no rudder reference) installed on my new boat works OK at low speed but has problems making course corrections to the right under resistance at speed. At the dock and at low speed, everything seems fine, and there is no difference in performance or feel right or left. But if there’s more resistance on the engine, as from running 25 mph, or even enough wind or current at low speed, the series of short pulses from the AP pump don’t make the intended corrections to starboard. The AP eventually believes it’s reached the set “rudder limit” of 25 degrees and stops trying, even though it has not moved the engine off dead center. This happens even though the AP is set to “performance mode,” intended to give the quickest corrections, and regardless of whether it’s in “auto” or “track” mode

Here are two interesting clues which might help. First, when the boat is veering off course to the left because the AP isn’t correcting to the right, it will quickly and fully correct if I just give the wheel a little tug to the right to help it. Second, regardless of speed or rough conditions, the AP will make any large maneuver to the right if I tell it to track to a course that is way off to the right, like 45 degrees. It has no problem maneuvering the boat around aggressively to the right when commanded. It’s the small corrections, or series of them, that seem to be ineffective against any resistance. With the AP disengaged, the boat’s helm performs normally as described in the background below.

My own observation is that the EV-100 software uses the pump in two different ways depending on the situation - either tiny, short pulses, including a series of them as for course maintenance, or long, continuous pump operation, as for acquiring a new course. It’s the first of these that doesn’t work for starboard corrections against resistance. What might be wrong? Is there anything else I should try? Could the pump have an issue, like a sticky valve?

More background: The EV-100 was professionally installed on my brand new 22' bay boat with a Yamaha F150 and Sea Star helm # HH 6541-3 and 1.7 cu. in ram # 5345. The AP seems to be set up properly with a hard over time of 14 seconds, which is the actual time measured driving the motor stop to stop in either direction with the AP pump. (I’ve also experimented with higher hard over times and other settings to no avail.) I have all the software updates except for the latest May 2016 updates which supposedly are not compatible with my Garmin chartplotter (though I would obtain the updates anyway if they fixed my problem, but that seems unlikely since no one else reports the same issue.) The boat’s helm by itself performs normally and smoothly in either direction, with 5.1 turns stop to stop (spec is 4.9 turns fully bled.) There is no feedback at the helm from either the engine or AP operation. At speed, it’s a bit easier to turn the wheel starboard, which is the normal effect of prop torque. If anything, that should help the AP correct to starboard. But as described above, it won’t stay on course at speed unless I watch and help it along.

If my pictures got attached, one shows the installation, and the other shows (a dockside simulation of) what the P70R looks like when it thinks the steering is fully to the right when it really hasn't moved.

Upgrading electronics and have chosen Raymarine a97 with Digital HD Radar dome. Rep at Raymarine said I can use the same transducer by disconnecting the cable to the grey box and bypassing with a adapter cable. This is where I'm stuck. Which adapter Cable?

connecting CW-series with E-classic

I have a C90W and a C120W on the boat and want to add 2 E80 classic displays to the network. The CW series will be in charge of the radome and the DSM300, the E-series will display engine data and GPS (using an external GPS antenna). I understand that the CW-series and the E-classics are not compatible but I came up with a potential idea that may work (see diagram). Will it?

Splitscreen sizes for eS MFD

When using the split screen mode on an eS90 MFD is it possible to change the size of the individual screens? I would like to use the 3 screen mode but would prefer that the two smaller screens be smaller in the left to right dimension, i.e. I would like to move the divider to the right so that the major screen is wider and the two minor screens are narrower. Can this be done?

I bought a 2003 480 Sea Ray with all raymarine electronics which was great, but there is still a RL80C unit that is used for the radar readout and I would like to update to a new readout. There is a E120 on the dash but the RL80 is in an overhead box and it works well but the box is limited in size to 13 inches wide and 12 inches tall. What would be the recommended replacement?

SPX 30 Drive Stop Issue

$

Hi, I have a hydraulic autopilot motor (Lecomble &Schmitt) that is controlled by a SPX30 computer and a P70 control head (although I mostly control the pilot from an e127). Lately, the AP has been dropping out citing "Drive Stopped". When I re-engage it it sits for a while saying "Setting to Auto" then either engages or drops. If it engages, it soon drops again, saying Drive Stopped.

At anchor I can keep it engaged for a minute and when I use it to turn the rudder, nothing happens. The rudder is free to turn, so no blockage. The rudder reference unit seems to work because the electronic rudder reference shows it turning when I manually turn the wheel. The drive seems to work because when I apply power to the motor output leads at the computer, the drive turns the rudders. So, it seems to me that the computer is faulty, but it is only a couple years old and I had it checked a year ago.

Any ideas?
