ECI-100 and Volvo EVC-mc

Hi!

I have a Volvo Penta D3-160A-A (early 2005) engine with 1st generation EVC-mc instrumentation.

This early version of EVC transfers information between the EVC brain box and the instruments on J1708. But there is a connection between engine ECU and EVC box that runs on J1939.

Is it possible to splice a ECI-100 to this J1939 bus and convert engine data to a seatalk ng backbone?

I attach a wiring schematic of the EVC-mc system.

AIS and radar targets are out of sync

Hello,

I have AIS650 and RD418D connected to my c90 MFD via STng.

My AIS ship display icon is off by several degrees, more or less depending on COG.

It is quite disconcerting to watch my ship moving sideways to COG.

More disconcerting is the overlay of radar.

Distance from a target, whether AIS target or land mass, seems to be an issue.

The further away, the more the overlay display is off.

A land mass target may be off by an inch or two, many degrees from COG, compared to the underlying chart.

An AIS ship target, similarly, will be off.

Stated another way, I will see two targets of the same vessel, one radar, one AIS, separated by some distance on my MFD until we have approached each other.

Similarly, I see two targets of the same land mass, one radar, one charted, separated by some distance on my MFD until I am closer to the land mass.

What might be causing this to happen and what is the solution to fix it?

Unfortunately, after reviewing the screen shots taken with the radar overlaying a chart, it appears the radar targets were not captured.

Thank you,

Dan

Choosing transducer for eS98

Putting an eS98 in my new to me 2000 Amberjack 290 with twin sterndrives. Understand I'll need to go with through hulls for best performance. Regarding Chirp/downvision, do I need both type of transducers or does one downvision transducer cover my needs? Assuming the CPT-110 would do the job.

Integrating eS98 with old RayData

I'm installing a new eS98 but would like to keep my old RayData for sounder redudndancy. What would be the best means of integrating the two? NMEA or SeaTalk? Also, any chance the existing transducers will interfere with the new one(s) installed for the eS98? Also came with a NAV 398 and older Raymarine fishfinder but I'm planning to ditch those.

type 1 rotary drive unit / service

Dear Sir, my rotary drive unit type 1 have given to me 15 years of troublefree service, but now, I feel that is a good idea do any inspection or change in it, could you be so kind to point which parts are a good idea to change in a preventive basis ? , if you highlight the parts in an exploded view layout will be very helpfull for me.
Thanks

Best regards

How to enable NMEA output from C120W?

Is there some setting in the C120W MFD to turn on and off NMEA output? I've spent hours examining the User Reference Manual to no avail...

I have the C120W MFD as well as ST-70 instruments including GPS, DSC radio, Depth, Wind...
**and importantly, the AIS 500 transceiver, according to my purchase records** but I cannot detect ASCII output and the AIS icon shows NOXAIS (except in simulator mode).

=====

The system was installed wired to a remote DB-9 RS-232 connector for connection to the RNS 6.2 software on a laptop.

Once upon a time it all "just worked", including the data to RNS, but excluding AIS detection.

Now I have changed laptops (and lost the Ethernet cable that did work with the prior laptop) and this laptop only has USB, so I bought a Gigaware to USB-to-Serial cable adapter.

The RNS runs under Windows 10 in a VirtualBox VM under Linux openSUSE Leap 42.1

-----

But first things first: I can find no ASCII output coming from the DB-9, I've tried a bunch of geek things:
• Linux recognizes the adapter
• minicom sees output but it is digital not ASCII as NMEA should provide

Is there some setting in the MFD to turn on and off NMEA output? I've spent hours examining the User Reference Manual to no avail...

Thanks in advance.

Andy

Try to set the Data Master

I have a e127 and e125 and each one of them only shows them self when trying to set the data master. When I did a software upgrade on the e127 it was seeing the e125. What should I be doing.

E120 Classic trunnion questions

Hello. I recently purchased a boat with two E120 Classics flush mounted in the pilothouse. I would like to move them to the flybridge but there is no room to flush mount them there so they would have to mounted via trunnions. Unfortunately I don't have the trunnions so my questions are as follows:

Are trunnions for these available from Raymarine..?

If not, I'll know I'll have to try to find them online (ebay or something). I've already seen one but it was the trunnion part number for a C120 classic. They had it advertised as fitting both the C120 & E120 classic units. Can you tell me if that C120 Classic trunnion would work with a E120 Classic unit..?

Last, do you know if any of the new model trunnions will or could work with the E120 Classic with perhaps some minor modification...?

Thanks, Adam.

Upgrading and integrating new MFD into older system

We are running the following Raymarine products on a high speed patrol boat ( Zodiac):

- Raystar 125 GPS Receiver
- Raymarine ST60+ Graphic Display
- Raymarine DSM300 Digital Sounder Module
- Raymarine E-Series Display
- Raymarine Radar

This is all ( older) model equipment installed on the boat as a complete new system by the builder Zodiac. Year 2007 approx

We are looking to upgrade the system and integrate into the new system without doing a complete replacement.

This is what we need , in broad strokes.

We need a new model MFD most likely a 15" . Unit will need to be touch screen as well as button controlled. Will have to have Bluetooth and wifi .

We will want to attach a heat sensor night vision camera to the new system

We will want the option of attaching another radar to the system.

We are interested in forward looking sonar and an upgrade to our depth sounding. The system we have now works very poorly at high speed. This is , we know a hard problem with any boat that is moving at high speeds and at times leaving the water.

One of the limiting factors with our old system is the limited number of tracks we can lay down. We do lots of work in confined waters with many shoals and reefs , much of this done at high speed and in low light and fog conditions. We need to lay down good tracks during times when conditions are clear and then use these tracks to navigate safely during adverse conditions. In the areas where we operate there are still large errors in the electronic charts as they are just scans of the old paper charts.

Given the above parameters can you give me a rundown on what you think might meet our needs.
If you need more info please feel free to post questions.

Thank you in advance

G-Series Command Center Keyboard E02044

I've just purchased a boat with the G-Series Command Center Keyboard connected to an E series MFD via SeaTalk.

The keyboard does not ever move beyond the startup screen showing software rev 2.7/1.5 and the serial number. The unit seems to be alive to the extent that I can press a key and either light up the keys or the unit will "beep".

The internal battery of the command center keyboard will charge as indicated by the battery icon in the display which would indicate to me it is at least connected via SeaTalk.

Pressing keys does not seem to have any impact upon the functioning of the MFD.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Tim

power/data cable from Radar quantum

The power/data cable from the quantum has three wires for power. Red, Black and Green. We are connecting to a distribution panel.

Do we use the green wire and if so do we connect it to negative as well as the black?

latitude / longitude

From the old forum>>>> is the math correct or am I missing something ??
I come up with .363 am I figuring something wrong or is this a typo ??

thank you
Welcome to the Raymarine Technical Forum Stephen,

I suspect the you may have incorrectly entered the coordinates into your Dragonfly display. Raymarine products support waypoint coordinate entry of data in the format DDD-MM.MMM. The coordinate format that you have obtained from Google Earth are in DDD-MM-SS.SS format, where

DDD - degrees of latitude or longitude
MM - Minutes (.MMM is fraction of a minute of latitude or longitude)
SS - Seconds (.SS is fraction a second of latitude or longitude)

To convert seconds to fraction of a minute, use the formula .MMM = SS.SS / 60. In the case of the latitude provided within the example which you have provided, .MMM = 21.79 / 60, .MMM = .463. As such the latitude value to be entered into the MFD would be 28-55.463 N.

vmg/ true apparent wind not showing on c127 and st60+

Installed a c127 chart plotter . ev100 auto pilot, st60+ wind
my speed is a standard Horizon 150
I have tried sending talker from speed to nema input on c 127 no read.
I also tried connecting to st60+(+,-, yellow talker ) directly via sea talk on instrument.
still no vmg etc.
please advise thanks

Yamaha command link engine ID problem

I have a E127 mfd. and yamaha F225 engines. they are interfaced with command link >E100
Both engines were identifying fine before I upgraded from V16 to V17 software.
Now even if set up as though I only have one engine the starboard engine won't identify.
I know I have the E127 set up correctly because the port engine comes up fine.
And I know I'm getting data voltage at the command link hub from both engines.
I believe the issue may be something with the V17 software because the problem engine is early command link and may be sending some slightly different data that worked on V16 and not V17
I'd like to reinstall V16 to verify this.
Can someone get in touch with me as to how I can get a V16 chip to load up?

Depth for a Product Upgrae

I'm going to upgrade an older Raytheon/Raymarine system and need help with the Depth part. I want to update to two 12 inch eS systems with a Quantum Radar. That all seems easy enough. What do I do for depth? The current system has HSB Series Chartplotters and an L760 fishfinder. It has an Airmar Bronze Triducer Multisensor transducer. I guess I could just take depth from the network, but what's the best way to upgrade. This is a trawler yacht, so not doing any fishing, just need accurate depth for staying off the bottom.

Also, with two eS chartplotters, will they share the Navionics chart card?

Thanks, Hube

CP450C UPGRADE

I have a CP450C sonar unit with software vs 3.09, is this the latest software available? If there is an upgrade can you direct me to the upgrade?

GS165 and eS98 network

This winter will spent updating my old 2006 electronics package. Currently
I'm using Classic e120, Smart pilot autopilot, Dsm300 sonar with a P66 transducer and Raydome Radar.

I just ordered the Gs165 and was thinking about mounting a eS98 next to it.
The GS165 needs an external gps antenna and the optional remote key pad.
My plan is to have the eS98 provide the gs165 with the gps info from its built in antenna and also control both displays using the eS98 key pad.
Right? Will the gps work that way? will it be as accurate as the external 130 antenna?

I will also be adding an Evolution Autopilot to my type 1 pump for my Verados.
A CP470 with High/Low transducers. The E98 is down vision capable and I will utilize that for my inshore fishing.
Also I'm on the fence for the new radar. Quantum Chirp or Digital HD dome.
The Digital HD unit has a bird setting, but I would think the Quantam Chirp would also be very good at picking up birds? any thoughts?

How do I convert coordinates specified in seconds to the format used by my MFD?

While some third party products and applications (ex. Google Earth, etc.) support entry of and specification of waypoint latitude and longitude coordinates in DDD-MM-SS.SS format, Raymarine products exclusively support entry of and specification of waypoint latitude and longitude coordinates in the format DDD-MM.MMM format, where:

DDD - degrees of latitude or longitude
MM - Minutes of latitude or longitude
.MMM is fraction of a minute of latitude or longitude
SS.SS - Seconds of latitude or longitude
.SS is fraction a second of latitude or longitude

To convert seconds of latitude or longitude to a fraction of a minute for use within coordinates DDD-MM.MMM format, use the formula: .MMM = SS.SS / 60.

Example: Convert 42 47' 16.14" N to DDD-MM.MMM format; 16.14" / 60 = .269'; accordingly 42 47' 16.14" N = 42 47.269' N.

Non-Raymarine Radar compatibility with Raymarine Ax or Cx MFD

I just bought a sailboat that has a Nobeltec InSight Radar 2 (IR2) setup where the previous owner had the Nobeltec software loaded on a laptop and the signals from the radar dome wired into the laptop. I don't want to continue with this laptop setup; I want to install either a Raymarine Ax series or a Cx series MFD in the boat. Is the Nobeltec radar compatible with the Raymarine MFDs? Do I have to install a Raymarine dome? If I do install a Raymarine Quantum Radar (WiFi) can I use the existing power cord to the radar (update the power connectors)? Thanks.

tranducer interface

I have an e125, a CP450C, and a M265LH transducer. The transducer has no plug, just a bare cable. I have been told there is a converter that will allow me to to wire the transducer to connect to the CP450C but I cant seem to locate the part number and / or specifications.

Can you confirm that such a converter exists, part number etc? thank you
