DSM 300 software update with A98 MFD

I followed the Raymarine instructions for updating the DSM 300 using my A98 MFD. Install the mSD card. Start the MFD and get an error message that says; "set the target device, then reboot." I can't find any instructions or information on how to "change the target device" on the A98. When I reboot, with the card out, I can check the DSM through the system settings, maintenance, device list, and see the DSM reporting that it is running software version 3.16. The lasted version is 4.2. Any ideas or suggestions? I am running Lighthouse v17 and downloaded the correct version per the RM website.

Thanks

HEADING SENSOR TO a128

Purchased an a128 with Quantum radar. In order to be able to use MARPA and have accurate radar overlay, also purchased an AIRMAR H2183 Heading Sensor. Tried hooking it up, no luck. Setup function on a128 (System Settings, Data Sources, Heading) shows no info. Appear to have good 12v power to hdg sensor (>13vdc). I attached the White and Blue NMEA wires from heading sensor to the White and Green NMEA wires on the main power/video/NMEA cable on the a128 MFD. Not sure if I'm using correct NMEA wires from the heading sensor. Does anyone know if the a128 has a RS422 or RS232 interface?

Thanks in advance! Stymied here in Va.

Can an A22164 ST-STng Converter Cable be used instead of an E22158 ST-STng Converter?

The SeaTalkng port of some recently introduced products (ex. i70, i50, i60, p70, p70R) are designed to support interfacing the product as a SeaTalk device or a SeaTalkng device. Such products are not designed to simultaneously support being interfaced to a SeaTalk bus and to a SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone. Such products will sense whether they have been interfaced to a SeaTalk bus or as a Spur to a SeaTalkng backbone and will configure themselves accordingly to communicate using the sensed communications protocol. Accordingly, the package of some of these products include an A22164 SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter Cable to permit the product to be installed within a SeaTalk bus either as a replacement for an existing product or an addition to the SeaTalk bus. As the A22164 SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter Cable contains no SeaTalk to SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 processing circuitry, it may not be used to support interfacing SeaTalk devices to a SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone. Should one have a SeaTalk device(s) that will be interfaced to a SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone, then the an E22158 SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter will need to be installed as a backbone component to support bridging of data between the SeaTalk device(s) and the SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone.

Wind transducer gone bad?

$

I replaced my wind transducer last year, including a new cable. It is connected to an iTC-5 and hence to the network. It all worked fine until last week.

Symptoms:
1. Wind speed most of the time shows just dashes. Sometimes a number but most of the time = dashes.
2. Wind direction shows straight up, or 122 degrees to port. Nothing else.

Measurements:
Red to shield = 2.89v, steady
Yellow to shield = 1.1v to 1.5v, variable
Blue to shield = 0.92v steady
Green to shield = 0.92 steady

If the red is disconnected at the base of the mast, red to shield (from iTC-5) is 7.98v.

Sounds like a short or other problem at the masthead? What is your recommendation for next steps?

Thanks.

Paul

es127 Route Turning to soon..

I changed out a c95 to a es127.. otherwise the system is the same. When following routes the autopilot is now asking to turn about 0.30 km prior to the waypoint. In the past it alarmed at 0.10 to 0.09...

Is there an offset that can be adjusted?

Same software version by the way, 17.45...

Additional Instruments

Hello!

I would like to replace my current instruments I have on my boat. I'm looking at the i70 and I like what it can offer, however the size is killing it for me.

Are there any plans with making a smaller footprint instrument? Like something that is ~3-3.5 inches in diameter? It would be nice to support the features that Raymarine has to offer and be able to network them together with the MFD.

Thanks!

Dave

I just purchased a new boat and they installed the es97 product. When I go to my iphone, i can see the wifi connection which is also the name of the boat. The password I found in the device, but I cannot connect. Any ideas?? Do I pay for the WIFI? A little confused.

Q24W or Q24C

I recently purchased a new e97 MFD to replace the C70 on my cruiser and would like to continue my electronics upgrade with a Quantum Radar unit. Besides the lack of an included cable is there a difference in the two Quantum models? If I purchase the Q24W, is there an interface to be able to add a cable later if desired? With the wifi option do I need anything else to connect the radar unit to the MFD or to the boat? Do I need an existing wifi signal on the boat for the units to communicate? Thanks in advance!

"NO DATA SOURCE" RD418D

A lot of good information posted on this already. My E92129 is connected via SeaTalk E85001 to an E Classic 120 and 80. The radar software is 1.04. A diagnostic self test results in Scanner Status Code 0 and Scanner shutdown Code 619. The radar is on a dedicated circuit breaker. Power has been tested. All connections have been checked. The scanner starts up normally when the MFD is powered on. Underway, the scanner will shut down and display the "No Data Source" window after 45 minutes like clock work. Within seconds the countdown begins and I can hit the MFD power button, transmit etc and radar functions for a minute, and cycles again into count down etc. After the 3rd time the radar won't even go into countdown. I even tried not putting the radar into transmit mode but the "do data" window appears at 45 minutes. Periodically this happens within the initial minutes of operation, but for sure at 45 minutes. At the dock, with or without shore power, the "no data" window will rarely appear, but the radar will never completely of down. It is not a loss of power as when the circuit breaker is shut off, the connection lost window appears. I read a Raymarine notice that E-Series & Digital Radar compatibility requires a software upgrade if the version is 1.24 or earlier. I don't know if this refers to E-Classic or not, further there is no software downloads available for the RD418D. Any thoughts? Thank you

Component Compatibility

I'm considering slowly starting to upgrade my all-analog C120 Classic-based system to digital. Can anyone tell me if my B256 bronze temp/depth transducer and ST600 paddlewheel speed/temp transducer that I currently have hooked up to a DSM250 sounder module via a y-cable will work with a DSM300? Would the DSM300 accept the same Y-cable connector?

Raymarine SeaTalk1 to SeaTalkng Converter Kit (E22158)

Hi,

I have installed a Raymarine es78 MDF. I also have the following instruments connected via STng:

EV100 autopilot
AIS 350
i70
p70
ITC5 (for wind vane and depth sensors)
Lowrance HDS7 MDF (which is NMEA 2000) and a Lowrance HD Radar connected to the HDS7.

I also have an old Raymarine's bidata (speed and depth) which is ST1 with its speed sensor, so I have it connected to the network via a Raymarine SeaTalk1 to SeaTalkng Converter Kit (E22158), to imput the boat's speed to the system.

Finally, I also have an old X5 drive unit connected to the network.

When I try to "see" the connected devices in the es78, I recieve an error message that sais that it cannot be seen because there is a ST1-STng converter plugged to the network, and that I have to check the manual to solve that problem. But there is no help in the es78 manual to help me with this issue. If I disconnect the converter, then I have no speed info imput.
Something similar happens with the ITC5, when I try to configure the wind and depth sensors.

I have these questions:

Q1) is there any way to connect or bypass the converter in order to "see" all the instruments in the network on the es78, specially the ones which are ST1?

Q2) is there any way to configure the wind and depth sensors, bypassing the ITC5?

Q3) I cannot "see" the Lowrance HDS7 MDF as an alternative MDF. Is it incompatible with the es78?

Q4) Is there any way to "see" the Lowrance Radar on the es78?

Many thanks in advance for your help
Best regards,
Fernando

SPX-5 compass fault

Where are the manual settings ?

Hello,
I have a Dragonfly 5dvs. Chapter 8.11 of the user manual refers to manual settings (as opposed to Auto mode) for gain and noise. However, I cannot find them anywhere in the menus. Do they actually exist for this model and where?
I have the latest software installed (12.09).
Thanks.

A128 Heading 'UP'

I have a new a128 that is working very well but has one annoying issue. The display reverts to North up whereas my preference would be heading 'up', (the boat icon would stay pointing to the top of the screen at all times). At this time the a128 is not connected to any network or other external cOmponents.

Any assistance to make this change and make the change 'stick' thru power cycles would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

Brand New System - Bizarre wind readings

$

Hello,

We had a new RM system professionally installed last fall.

EV-200 Sail / T1 Linear drive with p70 head
I70 SailPack Depth/Speed/Wind
ITC-5,
2 - i70 display units
RD418 Radar

Kept our C90W for the time being but are planning to upgrade it also...

Everything appears to work great each time we head out ...for a while. After some period of time (1-4 hours), the wind display just freaks out and becomes useless for the remainder of the trip. Everything else is still fine.

I took a short video of what starts happening after a while.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HI722tBB3l4

The power quality and voltage is not likely the problem as we have a ~400amp house battery system that runs everything for days before needing a boost.

Brand New dedicated supply & ground wiring was done from dedicated breakers for each major component. Makes no difference whether we have the AP or Radar powered up or not.

We tried powering down the entire system and then restarting just the instruments and it made no difference. Only seems to recover after being powered off for some unknown period of time like overnight.

All the equipment is registered and under warranty (3 yrs) but need to know how to get this working reliably. What should my next steps be here?

Thanks so much for any info you can provide!

DSM300 Update Necessary?

$

I have an E120 Classic MFD that I am updating to the latest software in order to use new Navionics charts. During my research in these forums I saw that someone had said not to update my DSM300 software unless I was having issues with communications between my MFD and the DSM.

Is this true? Should I update the DSM to the latest software and bootloader if I am not having problems with it? Are there any features in the DSM300's latest update that make it worth while?
