[CA11] e127 Databar Issue

$

I customized my databar some time ago and added "Heading" as one of the cells. Boat was not used for 6 months. Recently tried it and seemed to work fine except when using GO TO for a waypoint no data would appear in the "Heading" cell in the databar. Had to use COG to navigate. Tried a soft reset to no avail. Can you help? Thanks Andy

[CA11] Using legacy seatalk power supply for STng backbone

my system includes legacy depth and speed, st60 wind, 4000autopilot,ES75 and 100remote connected through ST-STng 5 plug adapter, and legacy st80 multidisplays.
I am in the process of upgrading the autopilot to EV1 with P70 display. I am not sure exactly where the power supply is connected to the legacy system but everything works fine.
My question is if I can continue to power the network through the existing power supply or if I need to power into a new white spur connection. Id rather not if I do not have to.

Axiom fuel/trip manager resets erroneously

This is an Axiom 12, connected to a Cummins QSB through the factory Mercruiser NMEA2000 interface. The behavior is inconsistent, but consistently worng:

After power up the "Day" figures represent yesterday. After perhaps a minute gallons used and hours run reset to zero. Shortly after, the month reset to zero as well. Sometime after the engine is started, both change the gallong used to the amount in the "trip" line. This is fairly consistent, but with some variation. The engine sends only current use data (gal/hr).

Where does one report these bugs?

no seatalk from a128

Hi all,

I recently took a lightning strike and replaced my autopilot with a new ev-200. My a128 mfd seemed to be fine, but when I add it to the network it only sees itself. It is odd as the data it gets from my vhf/ais radio shows the ais targets but there is nothing coming through ST ng.

I have a similar issue with the i70 instrument, but when I hook that in to the system the autopilot head shows no autopilot and the ev-1 goes into red blink which is no seatalk. I am pretty sure this is toast.

The a128 will obviously operate but can not integrate into the ev-200 since it can not be seen on the network. (if i do a diagnostic - select device from the p70s it does not see the a128)

So is there another way to be able to pass data or get this thing fixed? It seems a shame if I have to replace just because of the networking.

Why are my i70 and p70 display screens cloudy (see atachments)? These instruments were install in 2012. They are covered with the supplied Raymarine covers when not in use. They are cleaned only with a damp soft cloth. What can done to fix this?

[DG] Linear drive type 1 power consumption

Hi,

I am thinking of updating my drive with a linear drive type 1 but am uncertain if my current autopilot Simrad NAC-2 will be able to provide enough power for it? In the manual for the type 1 I can read it takes 18-36W on average. Is there more detailed power usage for available for the type 1? NAC-2 provides 8A continues/16A max, the boat is 32ft/4000 kg

Thanks,
Niclas

Updating software within a MFD running LightHouse software

Updating software within a MFD running LightHouse software

The most common mistake reported when updating the software of a MFD involves downloading the compressed folder directly to the microSD memory card rather than to the PC and then afterwards extracting all file within the compressed folder to the root level directory of the microSD memory card. Should one desire to upgrade a MFD with the latest version of LightHouse II or LightHouse 3 software, then one need simply:
1) download the LightHouse II v19.03 compressed folder or the Lighthouse 3 v3.x compressed folder from latest available Raymarine product software updates to one's computer. In the case of LightHouse 3 software for eS/gS-Series MFDs, an .iso file rather than a compressed folder will be downloaded the computer.
2) locate the downloaded compressed folder or LightHouse 3 .iso file (typically found within the computer's Downloads folder).
3) extract all files from the compressed folder (right click on the compressed folder to view this menu option) into the root level directory of a microSD memory card (<32GB w/FAT32 or NTFS file system). If the LightHouse 3 software update for eS/gS-Series MFDs was downloaded, then simply copy or move the downloaded .iso file to the root level directory of a microSD memory card ... DO NOT ATTEMPT to open it.
4) Switch ON the system's MFDs and permit them to complete startup initialization
5) In the microSD memory card containing the extracted software update files into the Data Master MFD's memory card reader
6) If any of the system's devices are not presently running the latest software, then the Data Master MFD should automatically detect the presence of a microSD memory card containing software update files. Acknowledge the corresponding alert dialog when displayed.
7) Elect to update the software within any of the system's devices which have not yet been updated with the latest available software
8) When all software updates have been completed, then safely eject the microSD memory card containing the software update files.

[CA11] e127 GO TO WPT navigation best method?

$

How best to navigate using GO TO to a WPT? Before this unit I had a standalone third party chartplotter that gave both heading and COG and was easy to use because you could keep the boat aimed at the heading, and wind and current effects would be seen as the actual COG. The heading information allowed me to keep the bow of the boat pointed to the WPT with less zig zagging.

How then is best way to navigate to a WPT? When we tried it last weekend I was zig zagging back and forth trying to keep the best COG to the WPT since I was not given a heading to approximate.

[CA11] Course Vector

Our boat has a E120W MFD installed in 2010. Our GPS receiver (Raystar 125) failed and was replaced with an RS 150 GPS Receiver. All GPS related information in the MFD Databar (VES POS, COG and SOG) displays correctly. However, the Course Vector on the chart is not displayed. I also note that the Heading Vector is now green in color - I think it used to be red in color. I have ensured the COG Vector is selected "ON" via the Menu>Chart Setup>2D Setup menu. Ideas on how to retrieve the Course Vector?

[DG] Bleed the pump

I have just completed an EV-150 installation on a boat with twin Mercury Verado and can't get the pump to move any fluid. It seems as though it has an air lock and fluid never reaches the pump. I have confirmed the plumbing with the limited amount if info that I seem to be able to find for a Verado install. The helm works just fine from the wheel. The system is working, you can here the pump cycle, but nothing in the way of motion. I did try cracking one of the tee fittings and running the pump in each direction but still nothing.

What am I missing?

[CA11] Which Evo for Simrad RPU300 hydraulic pump

I currently have a Simrad autopilot that I’d like to upgrade to Raymarine but keep the existing pump. I can’t determine from the charts whether I need an ACu-300 or 400. The RPU300 stats are:

Hydraulic Ram Capacity: 17.7-58.5cu.in. (290-960cc)
Maximum Pressure: 60 BAR
Dimensions: 9 1/16"L x 3 15/16"W x 4 13/16"H
Amperage: 3.5-10A @ 24V

Air in Autopilot Hydraulic steering system

The first thing is to check the orientation of the pump, is it mounted on a flat, horizontal surface, such that the motor axis is horizontal? The three hydraulic pipes will either come out of the top of the pump valve block, or on some styles of pumps they will exit the end of the pump.
[Image: attachment.php?aid=2365], [Image: attachment.php?aid=2366]

In the first image you can see the pump mounted horizontally with the pipes exiting the pump from the top pf the pump valve block body.
In the second Image, you can see an alternative style pump with the pipes exiting the end of the body, note that the pump is still horizontal.

It is important that the pump is horizontal because this enables any air trapped inside the pump to naturally bleed away. if the pump axis is mounted vertically, the air will remain trapped, as well as the pump will damage the thrust bearings and gears.

Also note in the second picture a warning about NOT using thread tape to seal the threads of the pipe connectors. Thread tape should NEVER be used, since strands of tape can break loose and become trapped in the pump causing check valves to stick open or jam closed or damage to the pump rotors. Threads of the pipe connections should only be sealed with threadlock or similar thread sealing compounds.

Hydraulic oil when first put into a system will contain many microscopic air bubbles and these will gradually coalesce and form larger air bubbles which will interfere with the operation of the pump, hence the reason why it is important to mount it correctly to enable this air to bleed away to the hydraulic reservoir in the steering system.

There are three pipes connected to the hydraulic pump, two connect into the steering system and are used to drive the steering rams to port or starboard, the third pipe connects the pump to the steering system fluid reservoir. This reservoir needs to be higher than the pump since this encourages the air bubbles in the pump to naturally escape back to the reservoir.

The sign of air in the Autopilot pump is usually a high pitched screaming sound coming from the pump

The autopilot pump can often be more easily bled from air, following a new installation, as follows:

* Select AUTO and PRESS 3 -4 +10 course change buttons
* Manually turn the steering wheel steadily to PORT

By turning the wheel to PORT whilst the Autopilot pump is trying to turn to STARBOARD, the oil between the helm pump and the Autopilot pump is circulated between the two and so any air in the Autopilot pump is flushed straight back up to the Helm pump which is also usually the hydraulic fluid reservoir.

Make sure there is sufficient oil in the reservoir, otherwise more air will get sucked into the pump again!

[TG11] A98 does not recognize AIS

Just got a new (refurbished) A98. Connect my Sitex Class B transceiver and the symbol at the bottom of the home screen says "No AIS". The AIS is sending the following messages: $GPGLL, $GPRMC and !AIVDO. We're about 100 miles from the nearest big water so there are no actual AIS targets.

Tried both NMEA channels, no luck on either.

Going to pick up a new, to us, boat in a couple of weeks and tried to test the connection before we needed it.

Any thoughts?

Bob

Hello I’m replacing my obsolete sport pilot plus in my striper 2600 WA I’ve decided to go with the octopus type t drive paired with raymarine EV200 power. I believe it should work well together ,what I’m not sure of is if and how to hook it to my existing chart plotter which is a L1250 RC Plus and if I can use my existing rudder reference from my sport pilot plus ?
Thank You John

[CA11] dual autopilots

I'm installing 2 complete ACU-400, p70r5, ev-1 autopilots each with a type 3 linear hydraulic. I plan to use a power relay to switch between units. I will only have one ev-1 sensor plugged into seatalk. Will there be a problem have two control heads connected to seatalk at the same time? Do you see any other problems with this arrangement?

[CA11] Axiom - Still need to acknowledge waypoints?

$

One of the annoyances with my older E140w is having to manually acknowledge arrival at every waypoint while tracking a route. My routes often have 50 to 100 waypoints, often a minute or less apart and changing course only a few degrees. It's just the nature of the area I cruise. These acknowledgements are distracting to say the least.

Can the Axiom be configured to follow a route automatically making each turn without a manual acknowledgement, similar to an aviation GPS?

[CA11] Peripheral Device Software Update from gS with LH3

$

I recently updated a gS system to lighthouse 3.7.70. The file I received from the download only contained the update for the display and no peripheral devices, unlike the Axiom LH3 software and older LH2. How do I update the EV-1 and other devices from the gS? Can I use the complete software from axiom LH3 and make sure the display doesn't update, or just remove that file from the drive all together?
Thanks for the help!
