When I first installed my 5 Axiom MFDs I renamed them based on location. Since then I did a factory reset but did not rename the MFDs again. I cannot figure out where to go to rename them again. Do I need to perform a factory reset again and enter the new names at that time? As usual, thank you for your assistance.

[CA11] Axiom 9 to Airmar b744v transducer connection issue

$

Ok I finally got the correct Axiom 9 with sonar capability. I have not yet been able to haul the boat to install the RV transducer. In the mean time I was hoping to use my already installed airmar b744v transducer. I have purchased the appropriate Y-cable as well as the 7 pin to dsm300 adapter cable. I hooked everything up but the Axiom does not detect any sonar connected. The airmar transducer worked fine with the previous C90w/dsm300 setup. What could be the problem here? Is there a way to diagnose the transducer by testing between different pins for ohms/resistance values? Is it possible that the RV transducer needs to be connected as well to complete some internal circuit? Thanks again for your help

Accessing seatalkng network

Hi All,

I am just writing to enquire a little about accessing the data on the seatalk ng backbone. I have just purchased a new yacht which has mutiple raymarine products some of which have been linked via seatalkng. Products include e125, AIS 650, The products which support seatalk 1 inclduing RAY 240E VHF radio and MOB system and raymarine autohelm, have been linked into the seatalkng backbone via 2 seatalk to seatalk ng converters. (E22158).

Essentially I wish to use an actisense NGW-1-USB to connect to the seatalkng/nmea2000 network to obtain primarily AIS and GPS data to use with chartplotting software, however other information is a bonus.

On one of the two E22158s that is conncected to the network I have two "white coloured" ports unusued either side of the yellow centre connector.
(see attached photo)

Do these white seatalk connectors act as a normal steatalkng spur connections or are they ment to be used with a setalkng to seatalk 1 connector cable?

Many thanks!

Got the boat this weekend. Boat is awesome and Axiom is pretty incredible. Wish I would've had more time to play around with it.

On the chart app we have SOG as a layer displayed but it is in Knots. is there anyway to display MPH on the lighthouse 3 operating system?

[CA11] AIS Connection Lost

My AIS 500, connected to an E80 and an E120 has begun sending "AIS Connection Lost" Alarms. I am in the process of moving my boat north. I will investigate antenna issues today, but if I am unable to repair the AIS today, I MUST find a way to stop this alarm from sounding every 2 minutes! Thanks, Bill

[CA11] Fasteners for i70S and p70S displays

My displays each came with 4 self-threading screws that I assumed were for mounting the display, since there were no other fasteners in the package. These screws are too small to engage in the holes in the back of the displays. What should I use? Did I miss something?

Thanks.

Determining the distance that objects may be seen on radar

Determining the distance that objects may be seen on radar

Please click here to view an Internet article addressing radar horizon. As indicated therein and shown within the diagram below, the distance which a radar system can detect objects is determined by the distance to horizon of both one's vessel and the object which will be reflecting the radar energy, the height of the radar transmitter and the height of the object which will be reflecting the radar energy.

The power of the radar, the radar cross section of the target, weather, and sea state are also factors in determining the effective radar range. With respect to radar transmitter characteristics, greater power will decrease the effect of weather in reducing radar range. Antenna the length of the radar antenna will increase the likelihood of targets positioned in close appearing as individual targets on the radar screen instead of a single larger target.

The ranges of each of Raymarine's currently manufactured radomes and open array radar systems may be found within Raymarine's radome and open array radar systems web pages, as well within the radome and open array radar system's Installation Guide.

I am using an axiom9, running the current version of Lighthouse 3. How does one measure distance on a navionics chart? For example: measuring the distance from a route line to the shore of the distance a buoy is offshore.

[CA11] WHICH CARD READER

Hello all,

I am in the process of installing an AXIOM 12 to replace the old E120. Since it is going to be a pain in the butt to access the card reader slot on the back of the Axiom I am thinking about installing a Card Reader Extension. There are two made by Raymarine and would like to know which one is more convenient to have. These are A80218 Rcr-2 Dual Micro SD Remote Card Reader and the A80440 Rcr-Single SdUsb Card Reader.

So, is there an advantage in having two micro SD cards connected to the Axiom?

Could I use for instance both Lighthouse charts & Navionics Platinum +?

Or, if I have the Navionics in one slot, could I then use the other slot for updates?

Or, there simply isn’t any advantage in having 2 slots because only one could be used at a time?

Thanks

Auto Pilot Intermittent Loss

I have a Raymarine C125 MFD with ST60+ autopilot and 150 course computer. During recommission this spring I noticed the autopilot control head LCD had become dark. I was able to obtain a free ST60 autopilot from a rep who had just removed it from another boat. When installed I received an intermittent error every 30-45 seconds on the MFD indicating Pilot Status: Pilot Status - Auto, Pilot Status - Pilot Head Lost, Pilot Disengaged. (This happens without engaging the autopilot in Auto mode on the control head itself.) It would sometimes disappear by itself, other times I had a use the back key. The depth and wind data is getting through to the MFD.

A tech came onboard and checked wiring, updated the SEATALK and NMEA contoller s/w releases, updated the MFD with latest s/w, but the problem recurred. We changed out the Seatalk-NMEA cable, same problem. I recently replaced the ST60 control head with the old ST60+, and the same problem occurred with both cables. Depth and wind continues to show, however occassionally I get a strange anchor alarm regarding depth, at less than 12' and sometimes over 1600'. Addtionally, The attached screen shots show that when the MFD believes the auto pilot is engaged (pic ending in 49) and the red bars under the buttons are mostly filled, but when lost (pic ending in 46) the single green in the middle is lit. (I'm not if the first screen shot is telling me something.)

The Autopilot and MFD work fine when disconnected from each other (sailed 2300 miles from Grenada to Norfolk with this config). But, I'd like to resolve this issue. I've tried a different cable between the Auto Head and the controller. Since the same issue occurs with two different auto heads, and two different cables, I think I'm left with the issue being either the NMEA controller or the MFD.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Pete

[CA11] Can Axiom use Pathfinder Smart Heading data

$

I am replacing my old Pathfinder RLC/open array system with a Axiom Pro12S and Quantum2 Q24D. In order to fully use the Q24D functions (color marpa, overlay, etc.). I need a heading sensor. The recommendation is 10Hz or greater heading updates. My currently installed Pathfinder Smart Heading Sytem (with fluxgate, about 10 yeats old, fully functional) delivers 10 Hz over NMEA 0183, I believe maybe slower over NMEA 2000. It seems this should be adequate, if not optimal. I will never have an autopilot on this boat, so the EV1 seems like an unnecessary expense; the pitch, yaw etc. sensors don’t seem applicable to my need for heading data for the Doppler radar unit. The Axiom accepts NMEA 0183 data. What do you think?

Format of Navionics CF Card?

Hi,
I have had some problems of late with the Navionics Freshest Data updates from Navionics. I had there support try to assist, but all they did was to erase the disk and then reformat it and reload the data and charts. It still will not load on my C80 or E120 MFDs.
The original CF card format was Fat16, but the new format is now Fat32. Does this affect the readability of the CF card to my MFDs?
Thanks,
Jeff

[CA11] NMEA 2000 and Axiom 9

I hope you can help me. I upgraded the C80 MFD on my boat this year and installed an Axiom 9. I also installed a Smartcraft system with Vesselview Mobile to monitor my engines' data and all works fine on the app.

I would like to get this engine data to my Axiom. I followed the installation and instructions from what I have read online.

The Axiom listens for both the Port and Starboard engine data but fails to find it. I have also supplied power to the NMEA backbone and still no difference. The Seatalk ST60 and legacy GPS receiver work ok. I have even disconnected the Seatalkng converter and ran the NMEA multi-engine gateway to the NMEA backbone with the Axiom only and same results, can't see the engine data.

I have drafted up a sketch of my existing system and attached.

Please take a look and let me know your thoughts and if I have miswired or missed something?

Thanks

Bill

[CA11] a98 visibility

I have an a98 and I have trouble seeing the details on the screen when fishing in bright sunlight. Can you let me know if I can make the screen more viewable in bright sunlight? I would appreciate the help. Is the backlight the only light adjustment for the screen?

Also, I tried to attach a view of the shortcuts page for shared brightness adjustment page for my MFD. On the shared brightness line, there is a vertical line towards the moon (low backlight) side of that slide bar. What does that vertical line represent and how can it be adjusted?

Thank you for your help.

(DG11) DC current in SPX 30 RF ground wire

$

Hi Folks.

I have my Raymarine SPX 30 and P70s connected over a Garmin N2K backbone. I spliced the unique SeatalkNG connector provided with the SPX 30 to a Garmin spur cable, including the drain wire. They communicate fine.

The Garmin NMEA 2000 network backbone is powered by the Garmin power spur.  The SPX 30 SeatalkNG power switch is turned off. The Garmin power spur cable has a DC - and a drain wire, and the installation instructions they should both be connected to the negative bus.

The SPX 30 has an RF Ground connection, which is recommended to connect to a submerged ground plate, or the DC - battery terminal/primary bus.

Internal to the SPX 30, the RF Ground and the SeatalkNG drain terminals are connected (unplugged everything and verified with my DMM).

I am observing current flowing in this wire, which is troubling.  Turn a DC load such as cabin lights on, and I will see about 10% of the current come back over this drain wire, which is tiny.  For the time being I have disconnected the SPX 30 RF Ground.

I think what I have is a ground loop, and based on my reading about drain or shield wires, only one end should be connected to ground.  Connecting both ends to ground can result in a ground loop. I think that's what I have going on here, partially due to the spliced drain wire.

Should I disconnect the drain wire from my splice to the SPX30 Seatalk NG? That would leave its RF drain isolated from the N2K drain...separate drains, separately terminated at the DC - bus.
