[CA] Replacing an es97 with an Axiom Pro 16 RVX

$

Boat came with Es97 installed with P58 and B60 transducers. I will be installing an Axiom Pro 16 RVX with the RV-100 all in one transducer. My questions, 1-how will the Axiom Pro display speed readings as the RV-100 is for depth and temp only? 2- can I use the B 60 with the Axiom Pro RVX,
Thanks

Legacy Autopilots interfaced with AXIOM

AXIOM MultiFunction Displays are designed to integrate directly with current generation Evolution autopilots through the STng network and will enable control of the autopilot directly from the AXIOM screen, provided the system is networked via STng. This enables the user to construct a route built up of waypoints and instruct the Evolution autopilot to follow this route, using the AXIOM screen.

Legacy autopilots - ie all non-Evolution systems, (including SPX systems which are connected to the network via STng and may have an i70/ i70r control unit) will not be able to be directly controlled from the AXIOM displays. However, you can still create a route or a single waypoint GOTO on the AXIOM display and select the FOLLOW/ GOTO option.

If you want the Autopilot to follow that route - you will need to engage AUTO on the legacy autopilot control unit, (for example i70/p70/ ST6002) and then select TRACK mode, after you have acknowledged the FOLLOW TRACK alarm, the autopilot will then follow the route on the AXIOM to the target waypoint.

Adding speed though water features to an Axiom Pro RVX system

Adding speed though water features to an Axiom Pro RVX system

Unfortunately, Raymarine does not offer RV transducers which sense Speed through water (STW). However, it is possible to interface the MFD to any one of the following to add Speed through the water data to the system:
- a CP370/CP300/DSM30/DSM300/DSM250 compatible transducer (ex. E66008 P79, E66013 P319, E66015 B117, E66085 / E66086 B60, etc) which has been interfaced to a compatible fishfinder speed/temp transducer (E66071 ST800 / P120 (Plastic) - Speed Transducer or E66072 ST800 / P120 (Bronze) - Speed Transducer) (includes Y-Cable). This is often recommended, as the addition of an in-hull or low profile thru-hull transducer may also permit the system to track bottom at greater speeds than may be supported transom mounted transducers.
- a CP370/CP300/DSM30/DSM300/DSM250 compatible fishfinder transducer which either features speed sensing capabilities (ex. P66, B744V, etc.)
- an i40 Speed Instrument w/compatible thru-hull or transom mounted instrument Speed/Temp Transducer (requires SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter)
- an i40 BiData Instrument w/compatible thru-hull or transom mounted instrument Speed/Temp Transducer(s) (requires SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter)
- i50 Speed Instrument w/compatible thru-hull or transom mounted instrument Speed/Temp Transducer
- i50 Tridata Instrument w/compatible thru-hull or transom mounted instrument Speed/Temp Transducer(s)
- i70/i70S MFID and iTC-5 Analog Instrument Converter w/compatible thru-hull or transom mounted instrument Speed/Temp Transducer(s)
- i70/i70S MFID with DST-800 Smart Transducer

[CA] Providing Navigation Input to a ST6000 Course Computer

$

I have an older ST6000 Autohelm system. The control head is a ST6001+ and the course computer is a ST6000 (Z123).

My first question concerns the course computer. Is this commonly referred to as anything else? I can find little to no documentation that refers to this computer other than the Autohelm Inboard Autopilots (ST6000 and ST7000 systems) Service Manual.

Second question: I would like to connect this system to a newer Furuno chartplotter via NMEA 0183 to get tracking information. Since the chartplotter is new, it employs a differential interface with two signal wires. The ST6001+ control head is expecting a single ended interface implemented with one signal wire and a common ground. Will I get a proper signal if I wire these two together with the A+ chartplotter signal wire going to the ST6001+ plus connection and the chartplotter ground going to the ST6001+ minus connection? Seems like I should.

Third question: Assuming the above will work, is it possible to connect a GyroPlus 2 unit to the system by moving the Fluxgate compass connection to it and connecting a Seatalk cable from the GyroPlus 2 to the ST6001+? Will this work, or am I just asking too much from this old reliable system?

Thanks.

[CA] Dragonfly 4 - diplay does not light up!

I bought the dragon in the USA 1 year ago and installed it here in Brazil where I live. I used it a few times, the last time I tried to use it, it did not work.
I already tested the power and the 12v power supply arrives in the connector, but nothing happens, the display does not light up.
Has anyone had this problem? I did not find Raymarine's representative in Brazil to send for repair.
Thanks in advance, Marco.

I have a ST 670 speed transducer that has just started to register speeds of approx 60% of true GPS speed (in a zero tide environment).
I tested it with a multimeter and it shows that there are two magnets working.
I assumed that the internal electronics weren't good so purchased a replacement
The replacement does the same thing, registering 3 knots at 5 knots true.

Any suggestions?

Thanks Conrad

[CA] Footprint of p70s vs ST5000+ control head

I am upgrading my ST5000+ autohelm using the existing Type 1 drive but adding the Evolution ACU-200 sailboat pack with p70s control head. Will the new p70s control head fit in the same cut out on the navpod as the old ST5000+ control head?

[CA] Keeping Autopilot in use without Raymarine MFD

$

Hi,

I have searched for information but have not found the answer.

I have a perfectly good Raymarine Autopilot system on my Nordic Tug 37 (Raymarine Smart Pilot S3G with ST 8001 Control head). It is connected to a Raymarine Fluxgate Compass that is working well. The Autopilot works extremely well even in rough following seas that are a challenge to steer manually. I would like to keep the Autopilot in place and running.

I am replacing the my Raymarine E120 Classic MFD, the Raymarine (?Raystar) GPS, and the accompanying DSM 300 and analog radar. I am replacing the E-120 system with a third party MFD and third party radar.

Other sensors/devices in the system:
1. Airmar 150WX providing GPS and heading information in addition to weather & wind etc.
2. Airmar H-2183 Fast heading sensor giving 10-20 Hz heading values via NMEA 2000
3. Vesper XB-8000 AIS providing GPS and AIS data and also acts as a NMEA 0183 - NMEA 2000 bridge to a Brookhouse iMux channeling 0183 data.
4. I plan to have the Cummins Engine data streaming to and from the new MFD via 0183.

I can have GPS and any other 0183 data ported to the Autopilot via the iMux or from the third party MFD's 0183 OUT port.

Since I am removing the E-120 MFD. How do I keep the Autopilot running as well as it has been without the E-120 in the system? (Before removing the E120, if I tried starting the Autopilot without the E120 MFD powered up, I would get a "Seatalk Fail" Alarm. How do I avoid this?)

What components of the current system do I need to keep? (I do not actually care if it receives instructions from the new MFD, I just want to be able to dial in a heading and have the boat stick to that...)

Any suggestions or insights greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

[CA] RAY260 speaker options

$

We are preparing to replace our RAY230 VHF with a RAY260. We need the base unit (part E70087) and an auxiliary handset (part A80196). Both products are listed on the Raymarine site as coming with passive speakers (part A80198). We need active speakers (part A80199) with both. Raymarine has told us we will need to buy 2 additional active speakers, an expensive proposition.

Some online resellers, including West Marine, list the RAY260 and it's auxiliary handset as coming with an active speaker. Queries to the resellers as to which speaker comes with the unit result in them quoting their ad - not helpful. Based on ad text, it would appear they are shipping directly from Raymarine.

My question: have these products ever been packaged with active speakers? I don't want to order, only to get passive speakers and still need to purchase 2 active speakers.
