Axiom 12 and Axiom 9 Networking

I have an Axiom 12 (no sonar) and will be adding an Axiom 9 (basic no sonar) to my network. If I understand the user manuals and other forum information correctly the Axiom 9 on my flybridge should be a repeater display connected to the HS network via my 8 channel HS Switch and should not be connected to the Raynet / 2000 serial network. Both Axioms are running 3.2.97.

Is this correct and if so will ALL data present on the Axiom 12 at the pilot house console be replicated on the Axiom 9 via HS? Should I disable the local GPS capability of the Axiom 9 or can it be used locally?

I have a full new suite of EVO Autopilot, 2 P70R displays / autopilot control, Ray Sirius XM receiver (HS interface), Quantum Radar (HS), CP 370 depth sounder (HS) and WindSpeed / Direction I-60 based, ACU and rudder indicator all updated. I have a 2nd party AIS transponder that is connected via NMEA 2000 adapter cable to Raynet and works very well.

Please let me know if I can expect this dual Axiom 12 / 9 system to function normally with HS and Raynet working side by side. I attempted to use a Raynet to SeaTalk network adapter to connect one last Seatalk display (depth) to the Raynet network but my Axiom 12 gave me serious errors for data master and would not function with the adapter connected to the Raynet bus.

Help with properly networking my new Axiom 9 with my existing Axiom 12, any data display limitations, reason for the failure of my Seatalk to Raynet adapter (5 connectors) would be appreciated. I have also previously reported CP 370 depth display problems with my Axiom 12 - no depth displayed if fish finder app is not running.

Updating wifi Quantum from Axiom

My goal is to upgrade the software on my wifi-only Quantum from an Axiom 9. The Axiom is running the latest software. The Quantum is paired with the Axiom and appears to operate correctly.

Q1. How can i determine from the Axiom the version of software currently installed on the Quantum? I don't see this option in any menus.

Q2. How do I update the Quantum software from the Axiom? Using the Axiom Software Update I'm told that no update could be found. This occurs using either the SD card or wifi option.

Note: The box the Quantum came in tells me it had 1.46 installed. I'm trying to apply 1.51.

Have just acquired a sailboat which has Raymarine SPX-5 software V 3.0 and Raymarine P70 software V 1.06. I want to add the Axiom 7 to the boat so that the Track function can be used and want to confirm I will be able to update the software in the SPX-5 and P70 units using the Axiom 7, with Lighthouse 3 unit.

Axiom Alert Tone

I currently have an e80 and am looking to switch to an Axiom. I find the waypoint approach alerts on the e80 to be annoying in that they sound like urgent alarms elsewhere, such as engine troubles. It doesn't allow any selection of alternate "friendlier" tones. Does the Axiom enable the user to select alternate tones, or to turn off/down the volume of these alerts?

Does the Axiom have the option to display the route's final destination ETA and/or TTG? I cannot find this option in the documentation.

On the WiFi model Quantum, can a cable to an Axiom MFD be used if there is a problem with the WiFi.

Axiom 9 Order

I am looking at ordering an Axiom 9 (no transducer) to work with an Axiom 12 (with a transducer and Navionics). I noticed that the Axiom 9 comes with/without LNC - both for the same price. Why would I not get the Axiom 9 with the LNC and have alternate charting capability?

When I initiate a "goto" to a waypoint, the heading line shows up in the color black. Is there any way to change the color to something more visible such as red? Thanks in advance.

Axiom and boat icon size

I know that you can choose between 3 sizes for the boat icon on the chart. My issue is that even with the small icon, if you use the zoom to zero in closely, the size of the boat icon does not proportionally change. The result of this is if I'm in a relatively narrow channel the boat icon takes up the entire channel. Is there anything I'm missing or anything that can be done to change this behavior? Thanks in advance.

i70s No GPS msg

Hi Chuck,

I've added an i70s to a NG backbone that is fed by an RS125 and bridges GPS data via a Seatalk 1 to NG converter. Typically is seems to take about 45-75 seconds for the RS125 to output valid GPS position, which I believe is normal.
The i70s has a default page for GPS position and it squawks about 'No GPS' about 15-20 seconds after power is first applied.

Power is applied to the NG network, the converter and the RS-125 all thru a dedicated power ckt and the feed is at the mid point of the NG bus.

How can I get the i70s to be patient while the RS-125 is finding initial position? Short of turning it off before power shutdown and delaying power up, there doesn't appear to be any why to delay the alert for 'No GPS'.

I just purechased a boat with wireless tacktik system and would like to add the i70+ displays. Will using a nmea converter add delay. I want to use the i70+ for analog wind direction but don't want response time to be delayed. I also want to add Sirius XM weather and AIS to the system. The current mfd is a C90.

Splicing Seagalk NG cables

I'm in the process of upgrading my wind, speed, and depth instruments and eventually my autopilot. I would like to replace the Seatalk 1 cable that currently feeds my NavPod with a SeatalkNG spur cable. However, the conduits are already stuffed and I suspect I'll have to cut the connector of the STng cable to pull it through.

Can STng spur cables be cut and re-spliced? Thanks.

AXIOM PRO 9 vs AXIOM 12

I need to decide which AXIOM to install on the Cockpit.

AXIOM PRO 9:
I like the idea of the HybridTouch controls, specially if I am caught on the rain outside

AXIOM 12:
I like the big screen that I can read from any helm (my boat has dual helms and the MFD goes in the Cockpit table) and easier to see all the AIS boat + Radar on one screen.

1-What are you thoughts?
2-Is it possible to fully operate the touchscreen of the AXIOM on the rain?
3-What's the power consumption for my sailboat (no sonar).

Thanks,
JP

System Upgrade

I am planning to install a Radome RD418HD, Ray70 (for AIS) and a RS150 GPS antenna in my hardtop, and a CP370 to upgrade my sonar as part of my plans to finally get my marine electronics where I want them to be.

Currently, I have a ES97 MFD and Autopilot (EV200) which I installed last year. I am proud of my installation of the autopilot as it works perfectly and the max deviation is 3 degrees. It’s not easy. I am a technical guy but find marine electronics to be a challenge at times. The support from this forum has been great. I find I spend more time planning than installing and my plans always evolve the more I think about how to accomplish my end goal. I don’t want to be in the position of saying “I should have” during the install.

My boat’s hardtop is wired for electronics. It has a separate switched power feed of 10 gauge wire dedicated for this purpose. There is one route between the hardtop and the MFD through the support pipe of the hardtop. Currently it has 6 wires running through it. My concern is being able to snake additional wiring through the pipe (with connectors) so I want to keep the size and number to a minimum for this install.

Here are my questions:

Can I use the power in the hardtop to feed both the Ray70 and RD418HD? I don’t see why not but figure I would ask anyway rather than regret that I didn’t.

The Radar cable has a RayNet cable and power lines. My plan is to cut the sheathing and split out the RayNet wire. Run the power line to the power feed in the hardtop and the RayNet cable down to the MFD. Is it OK to do this?

If for some reason I cannot get the cable through with the connector on it would it be feasible to cut the connector and splice a RJ45 connector on it and use an adapter to connect into the ES97?

The RS150 and Ray70 need a SeaTalk or NEMA 0183 connection. I have NEMA wires running between the hardtop and the MFD. I have thought of 2 options -

Option 1 -The easiest way is to connect the RAY70 to the MFD through the NEMA 0183 wires and connect the SeaTalk connection on the Ray70 to the RS150. However, I am not sure this will work. (Note on the RS150 - The manual says it comes with a 6M SeaTalk spur cable. The SeaTalk manual says ”the length of an individual spur must not exceed 5M”. My connection to the Ray70 via the NEMA 0183 will be between 5M and 6M, and then another 1M - 2M to the RS150 which will be mounted on a Seaview pole above the RD428HD)

Option 2 - Run a SeaTalk backbone up to the hardtop and connect both the RAY70 and the RS150 to the backbone up there. I can probably do this as the backbone cable connection is not that large.

Would the first option work and is there a benefit to doing it one way over the other, i.e. data speed, etc.? Which option do you prefer?

The ES97 has 2 RayNet connections on the back. I plan to use one for the RD418HD and one for the CP370. A lot of diagrams show a switch with only 2 connections so can you confirm that this will work?

I appreciate the support!

Axiom 9 power and RV100 transducer connector size

Does anyone know what size the connectors are for an Axiom 9 with RV 100 transducer?

I am installing on a Boston Whaler 170 Montauk console and want to make sure the pass through fits the connector. The cables will come through the top of the console so waterproof is critical to me. I’m need to order the best possible cable glam.TIA

Update RAY52 from AXIOM

I just upgraded all the electronics of my boat.

When I tried to update all the devices from the AXIOM (With the latest update on it), I was able to update almost everything successfully (LOVE IT).

The one exception was my RAY52 that did not apear on the list of devices on the AXIOM.

1- Is this normal?
2- I double checked all the connections, but how can I check that the RAY52 is successfully connected to my Seatalk ng?
3- Suggestions?

Thanks,
JP

ST6001 Calibration Issues

$

Just recently purchased a used 26' Cat fully equipped with Raymarine electronics. I'm new to Raymarine and also never worked with an Autopilot so the learning curve is steep. Problem I have is the compass is roughly 100 degrees off on the AP so I went out last weekend to try and calibrate. The control unit is a ST6001 and I followed the directions to initiate the SeaTrial calibration. Once the prompt pops up to start your turns I turned as slow and as wide as I could trying to complete a turn in a little more than 2 min. I never could get the "Turn Boat" prompt to go away, not even by increasing speed to tell me if was turning too fast. Sorry, I know this is probably a simple fix but got dizzy after about an hour of donuts and gave up. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Update Navionics On-line?

Just got my new Axiom 12 with Navionics (plus radar and AIS). Really like it!
One thing I haven't figured out yet...Can I get updates to my Navionics charts (which Navionics does every few days) by going online using the Axiom wi-fi, or must I remove the Navionics micro-SD card, take it home, plug it into my computer (after buying an msd card reader) and update it that way?
Thanks for your help on this.

Speed Sensor for Axiom Pro

$

I am upgrading an E120 classic system to Axiom Pro. The current system has a DSM-300 Module with the ST-800 Speed/Temp Sensor combined with a B260 Depth Transducer via a "Y" cable. The DSM-300 connects to the E120 via the SeaTalk HS switch.

I want to upgrade the dual frequency B260 transducer to a CHIRP capable B265 which I understand connects directly to the Axiom PRO RVX unit.

How do I add the ST-800 (or some other Speed Sensor) to the Axiom Pro System.

Thanks,

Jon Spain

Hello Raymarine: I want to upgrade my equipment with new...what do you suggest?!
My boat is a 1996 Carver Santego 31 foot twin diesel.

1. Autohelm radar
(1) Datamarine Chart Link/GPS
(1) Autohelm ST7000 autopilot
(1) Autohelm Tridata
(1) Garmin 2010C chartplotter

I would like to include a GPS Chartplotter Fishfinder Radar bundled on a 9 or 12 inch display. Can I use any of the existing equipment or do we have to reinstall with new?

THanks...
