Bottom Tracking of e97 MFD

We are also having problems with keeping the bottom tracking for an e97 MFD with SW version V19.03 with a transom mounted transducer (P58 I think). The attached file shows the bottom being tracked with the system automatically picking a depth range with a large school of fish on our spot with our boat anchored. It was expected that the fishfinder would know the difference between a natural hard bottom and a school of fish and not adjust the depth scale as a school of fish passes under the boat. I know we could manually fix the depth but thought there was another way to keep it in automatic mode as we might forget to change modes as we move the boat a few hundred feet to adjust for changes in current and wind while anchored.
Thanks in advance for any advice

Axiom feature requests

I would like to see a low power standby option on the Axiom so if I'm on the hook for a while I don't need to do a complete power down to conserve battery and then have to wait for a power up and the satellite re-acquisition. also a night mode option with an option for auto night mode based on the time of day so not to affect night vision by the MFD when trying to adjust brightness after powering on in the dark. This is available on cheap auto GPS systems so I could imagine it would not be too difficult to replicate on a Axiom.

I am working my way through a new boat (to me) with a c140w that I believe was installed in 2010. It has a Navionics Gold card. Canada shows in white (we live in the Detroit area - Lake St. Clair). Do I need a new card and if so...which do you recommend?

Measuring Function Display on Screen

I have recently been learning to "measure" between way-points and other objects on the e95 Chartplotter screen...but once I am done the black line with the "ruler" icons at each end that denotes my measured item remains.

How do I "erase" this from the screen? Nothing seems to help even depowering and turning the e95 back on.

Thankx...Dan Smith

V5.16 upgrade

Having upgraded to the latest firmware, V5.16, on my classic C-80, what capacity CF card can the classic C-80 read? Can I only use a 2gb card to archive routes and waypoints, or can I use a higher capacity card? The higher capacity are actually easier to find.

Hi guys,

Hello, I have a l1250 in my boat and it has been there since 2001, a few days ago the screen no longer shows anything. Because of this I decided to change it for a new one, which model I can put using the same wiring for radar, fish finder and gps?

Thank you!

C97 networking question?

I recently purchased two C97 units. I also have an Airmar B60 transducer with the RAYA connector, and a RD424HD radome unit. I want ot hook everything up and be able to access all features on both c97 units.

Do I need a hub, and if so which one? could you explain which cables I need and the best way to connect these?

At this time, I do not have any immediate plans to add any additional equipment.

thank you!
Ian

Ray60 not getting position data

$

I am hoping to get some help diagnosing the lack of position data getting to my new Ray60. I have a C80 Classic MFD so my interface is NMEA0183 direct from the C80 to the Ray60.

My connection is as follows:

C80 Out+ Yellow ----- VHF IN+ Yellow
C80 Out- Brown ----- VHF IN- Green

The C80 DSC output is set to NMEA 4800 baud rate and the VHF input is also set at Standard Speed.

Are there any additional settings in either the C80 or the Ray60 that I should try? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Dave

Update and ProAIS2 can't find unit

I am connecting to a 650 with my windows 10 PC.

I have downloaded latest update and ProAIS2. Neither can see the unit.

The update searches for quite a while and finally says it can't find an AIS.

The ProAIS2 seems to see it, but stays in the identify mode indefinitely. I click connect and get a status of (determining the AIS device Type) but nothing else. Message at bottom of page is 'Connected to Serial Port: AIS Class B Transceiver (COM3)'.

Drivers were updated supposedly when I tried to update the firmware.

Bridging MFD's - CP100 and CP200 sonars

$

Hi,
I have a Raymarine suite set up on my Jeanneau Sun Odyssey. I bought the CP100 DownVision and CP200 SideVision systems to install. It looks like the sonar modules of each have a Raynet output which will plug in nicely to my pair of e95 MFD's, each of which has one available Raynet plug. If I plug in say the CP100 output into one e95 network input plug, and plug the CP200 output into the other e95 network input, will the data from both sonars be available on both MFD's? Or will one MFD show only the DownVision and the other will only show the SideVision?

I read somewhere that the MFD's will not bridge signals, but wondering if this qualifies as data-sharing so the MFD's will share all the data they receive.

Thanks,
'Dubs

Axiom 600w sounder

I am going to replace my current system which is a c80 w/dsm250 that is paired with the B744V transducer. I am planning on keeping the B744 and connect to the Axiom 9RV.

Will the performance of the B744v be improved over the aging DSM250, how will its performance compare to the Chirp sounder in the TV100 transducer.

I generally fish in about 60 to 120ft off the NC coast with the occasional trip to the gulf stream with about 300 to 500ft depth.

AIS hookup to e95 - Standard Horizon Matrix GX2200 - Wire help

$

Hi everyone,
I have a newer Jeanneau Sun Odyssey sailboat outfitted with Raymarine gear including a pair of e95 MFD's (one for each helm station). The boat has a Standard Horizon Matrix GX2200 with AIS and internal GPS. I know the AIS works because I have seen other boats on the radio's AIS display, but the e95's are not receiving the AIS data and no idea if they would be receiving any DSC signals to display on the plotter. On the Lighthouse display it says "No AIS data available" or something. I also made sure both the MFD and radio are set to 38400 baud.
Before I start, I will mention that I did spend hours upon hours researching the NMEA0183 to Raymarine MFD, and how the adapter kit (E70196) only really works one-way (sending data to the VHF, not receiving it from the AIS like I need).
It appears there are two ways to hook this radio (and others like it sending NMEA0183 AIS data) to an e95:
1) Buy the Actisense converter ($200) and all the extras for it (NMEA2000-STNG adapter) which will allow the radio to do a two-way interface with the rest of the network. The main reason this would be my Plan B is because I don't need the radio to receive data from the e95, I need the e95 to only receive the AIS data from the radio.
2) It looks like the e95 has a cable on the back for both power and to accept a NMEA0183 input, so this looks to be the most direct path.

Two questions:
1) I read that the MFD's are designed as read-only and will not create a network signal so other Raymarine equipment can read the NMEA data coming in. But I thought I also read that the MFD's will share data with each other via the Raynet cable. Does this mean that I can hook up the VHF/AIS radio to send its output to one of the MFD's, and the same AIS data will be available would be available for display on the sister MFD across the cockpit as well?

2) I dug back behind the radio and pulled out the NMEA output wires and took a picture (see attachment). The side with the unattached white and yellow wires is the radio-side, but I can't tell what the other side is (the one with the wires cut off). The wire colors look different than those described in the e95 installation manual - for example, the installation manual says the color should be W/G/Y/Br/OW/OG but as you can see here one of the cables is blue. I tried to trace both of the Power/NMEA/Video cables coming out of the MFD but both of them disappear into black holes inside the boat and can't tell where else they head off to.

So, if anyone has any ideas, it would be MUCH appreciated. Sorry for the long post.

Side note: This has more to do with the GX2200 than Raymarine, but the GX2200 manual is kind of confusing as well on this topic. The yellow and white wires coming out of the radio are called AIS Data Output, but they are only shown hooked up to the MFD in the 4800 baud mode. In the 38400 baud mode, these wire remain unattached. It's not real clear if some inputs into the MFD should be set for 4800 baud and others 38400.

Fishfinder range locking onto large concentrations of fish

The fishfinder screen images below show the bottom being tracked with the system automatically picking a depth range with a large school of fish while the boat anchored.

Should very strong returns from large concentrations of marine organics be encountered, then the fishfinder may indeed interpret the returns as bottom and adjust the range accordingly. Under such conditions, configuring the fishfinder's range from auto to manual and then adjusting the range to a depth which is slightly greater than the actual depth of the water will typically address the problem. Under extreme conditions, it may be necessary to make adjustments to the Gain setting to be able to separate organics from the bottom.

Tacktick intermittent knotmeter malfunction

$

After years of working properly my tacktick knotmeter is getting quirky. One day after working well, it abruptly started reading much lower speeds (say 0.6 knots down from 6. That reading then decayed to zero over a period of perhaps 10 minutes. Back at the mooring I pulled the triducer and spun the paddlewheel. It spun freely and gave a very low reading for a while and then went completely to zero. Depth and water temperature red correctly. The next time I used the boat everything was fine. Then several days of failure. Once or twice I could get a very low temporary reading by turning the instruments off for a few seconds and then back on. Finally yesterday it started out working properly for about 20 minutes and then decayed slowly from 6.3 knots down to zero over a period of about 10 minutes.

What should I test? Which replacement part should I consider?
