AIS500 with Icom M506 VHF

$

My sailboat has an older Raymarine system, including an E80 Classic, and an AIS500. Until recently, the AIS500 happily shared the VHF antenna with an Icom M502 VHF. But the M502 is ready to be replaced and, for several good reasons, I plan to purchase it's successor, the Icom M506.
The M506 is available with or without a built-in AIS. (Both versions accept NMEA0183 input, and NMEA2000 is also available.) The built-in AIS is attractive, not least because its graphic display will appear on the remote mic which I will install in the cockpit. (The E80 is belowdecks, so this is an advantage for both safety and convenience.)
And so here is my question. Can I, and how do I, connect the M506 with my Raymarine?
1. Can the AIS500 still share the VHF antenna with the M506?
2. Will one AIS interfere with the other?
3. If I were to take the AIS500 out of the configuration (although it performs very well), can the information from the M506's AIS show up and be accessed on the E80 as the AIS500 does -- with alarms, and on the chartplotter and radar screen, etc?
4. How do I connect the M506 to the Raymarine? To the AIS500 or to the E80 or both?
So far, ICOM tech support has only said to ask Raymarine, saying they only deal with their own equipment. (Like everyone uses their VHF in a void?) And the one dealer I have contacted so far was singularly unhelpful. So I'm really hoping someone on this forum, or with Raymarine, can shed some light... thanks in advance.

Chuck , my 5s scanner radar debug showed ft=0 , ct=74 , ss=7 -26 . could this be a bad cable and if so when doing the test do I check ohms between the pins or from pin to ground ? thanks Jim

Does anybody know what the power consumption of the Axiom 7 is? The specs on the website are unfortunately saying that it's TBD.

Problem with CP370 and E140W

I have a CP370 and E140W on my boat. I have both a P66 and M260 transducers, only connected one at a time. With either one of the transducers connected, sometimes the MFD will just lose the transducer readings. It will read insanely deep or shallow for where I am or it will just not read anything. It will work fine for a few hours and then just stop. It doesn't matter which transducer is connected. Any ideas for things to look at? The CP370 is less than a year old and has a dedicated power connection to a fuse block. The voltage at the CP370 reads above 13 volts.

A78 Ping enable issue

Hello again, a problem has developed with my older A78 in sonar mode. I get readings that appear correct in the dual sonar application but keep in mind I am out of the water. At least there is scrolling on the screen. The ping is enabled and the rate is 80.
When I switch icons to chart + sonar, it tells me there is no sonar and pings are off. A search for the transducer results in a blank screen. In the menu the ping is set to off and I cannot get it to switch on. I tried in other combination applications and got the same result.
I removed the transducer plug and all pins look good and reattached the plug.
Suggestions?

What type or make and where do I purchase a usable SD Memory card for my Raymarine RL80C Pathfinder Plus??
I have tried some but they are too wide and too short to be put into the card holders on my unit.

CP370/B164 issue

Last year installed 2 C127 units, autopilot, radar, CP370 and a B164 transducer. The bottom machine constantly looses bottom around 400 feet and this weekend it would show bottom but not depth and then show static and then clear up with out changing any settings. I have reset the transducer and CP370 several times while underway to try and correct. Is 400 feet the standard depth to loose bottom with these units. After researching and purchasing the units I thought I should be able to get at least 1000 feet?

Adjusting Heading alignment ST6001

A couple of years ago my E12122 auto pilot Computer had a problem and I had to have it repaired.
When I reinstalled it I went through the compass calibration procedure running the boat in circles and all that. The auto pilot has worked well since, with the exception that the heading alignment has been off by about 5 to 7 degrees ever since. the chart plotter shows the course correctly and the boat follows the course, but it always shows the boat slightly turned to starboard. I am not sure if this effects the performance of the auto pilot, but it always bugs me and I would like to fix it.
My manual say "After completing the initial compass calibration, you can make further adjustments to the alignment without having to swing the compass again".
The manual does not go on to say how to do this with out swinging the compass again. I have a hard time finding a day where the water conditions, currents and wind conditions are suitable for swinging the compass. It would be great if I could figure out how to fine tune the heading alignment with out having to swing the compass. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have an eS series MFD and an evolution autopilot. I am currently running v17.46 software on the MFD, and re-commissioned the autopilot when I upgraded to v17.46. Will I need to re-commission the autopilot again if when I upgrade the MFD to v19.03?

Thanks,
Jack

Need Help. error message 'card in use'

When trying to import a .gpx file of waypoints created with Voyage Planner, I get the message 'card in use' import unsuccessful. I have tried the original file downloaded from Outdoor Alabama and the file created in Voyage Planner from the .csv file. I have attempted this on 3 machines. e97, e127 and eS series MFD. They all give the same error. I have updated the e97 and e127 to the latest lighthouse version.
I purchased Voyage Planner after attempting to use the original file as well as one created using GPSBabel.
Somewhere on here or the old tech forum, I read where sometimes the file has to be changed using Excel or something to make the Raymarine unit accept it. I have been unsuccessful at locating that thread again.
The .gpx file will not upload because it is too large. However, I do believe it meets all the requirements like file name length and <3000 WPs.
Thank you for any assistance you can give me.

Axiom vs eS Series

I am about to make a decision wether to buy two eS Series 9" or the new Axiom 9". I was told buy the dealer/installer that the new Axiom replaces the A Series rather than the eS Series. But now I am confused since the Raymarine website describes the Axiom as a faster and more advanced product. So the question is, is the Axiom a better choice than the eS Series? I can wait for the additional Lighthouse III feautures to come later, so it is a question of wether the eS series is now replaced by the Axiom or not.

Hi, I re-positioned my Dragonfly transducer in an attempt to try to keep the readings at speed. They drop out as I get up on plane. In making the change I now get no reading at all. Blue Screen on sonar and black on down vision. I do get a temperature reading and the GPS appears to be working. Any help would be appreciated

Besides the cabling issues I face with a dual helm instillation, what connectivity issues should I be prepare for in this process? Current MFDs and auto pilot on my Sealine F43/5 motoryacht are (circa 2004) a Pathfinder RL80s and auto pilot. Although I have yet found the connection block, all appears to be NMEA 0183/Seatalk. Both Nmea0183 and Seatalk plugs are in use.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Axiom MFD vs an a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD ... which should I purchase?

Axiom MFD vs an a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD ... which should I purchase?

Axiom MFDs are Raymarine's latest generation of MFDs and the comparison to a-Series MFDs is commonly made as both Axiom MFDs and a-Series MFDs feature touchscreen-only user interfaces and are priced competitively with other manufacturer's entry level MFDs. The decision to purchase an Axiom MFD instead of an a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD would typically be based on a number of subjective criteria including the following:
- features, features, features ... Raymarine posts the latest versions of its operations manuals here to permit customers to review and assess all of the features currently supported by its products prior to making a purchase. While it is expected that the software feature set of the Axiom MFDs will eventually equal or exceed those of the MFDs running LightHouse II software, the Axiom Advanced Operation Instructions (may be accessed via the link provided above) will identify the features supported by Axiom MFDs today. Should a specific feature(s) be critical and needed immediately, then it would be recommended that one ensure that the MFD being considered presently supports that feature(s).
- requirement for button/key interface and whether the boat's layout would support installation of a RMK-9/10 Remote Keyboard. Button/key interfaces are commonly required by those who will be operating a MFD while under exposure to very wet conditions which may prevent a MFD's touchscreen from functioning. Should the vessel regularly be operated under such conditions and should the installation location not support installation of a RMK-9/10, then it would be recommended that a MFD having a hybridtouch user interface (ex. eS-Series, e-Series, etc.) be considered.
- support for currently installed marine electronics
- support for integration with future Raymarine products
- cost
- future serviceability. Raymarine has a product support goal of being able to supply parts and service for approximately five years after production of a product has been discontinued. Accordingly, one would reasonably expect that a product which has recently been introduced may be supported further into the future than a product which was introduced several years ago.

Evo 100 Networking Problem

$

Hello,

I am helping a friend configure his sailboat with Raymarine Electronics.

He has:
Evo 100 with P70 control head and Mk2 wheel pilot
I50 Depth
I50 Speed
I60 Wind

The Evo 100 components are connected to a 5 way Seatalk NG connector.

The speed, depth, and wind instruments are daisy chained together and then connected to a Seatalk 1 to Seatalk NG connector (I don't know why).

On the P70 control head I can run diagnostics and all the devices show up (I50 depth, I50 Speed, I60 wind, ACU, etc.).

If I try to search for a speed or depth source, nothing shows up.

Any ideas? I can provide screen shots, etc. if that helps.

Thanks,
Barry

Raymarine T121 issues

I have a T905 depth sensor with a T121/122 hull transmitter as part of my wireless setup which includes a wind speed/direction sensor and 2 displays One display is for for wind and the other is a multi-function display. Last year the depth display stopped working - it would always show 3 dashes, nothing else. I assumed the sensor had gone bad. I purchased another T905 and installed the sensor only to find that my display still reads --- for the depth.

I know that the hull transmitter is part of my network because when I switch off power to it, the displays inform me that there is no voltage going to it. I have tried testing the connections on the hull transmitter for voltage, but I get nothing, no matter the combination of wires I choose (blue, black, gray).

How can I verify that the transducer is working and that the depth connection for the hull transmitter is working? Having already replaced the transducer, I do not want to throw good money after bad.

Thanks

E120 Classic and Network Update to STng

$

Hi - I have an E120 Classic MFD and ST1 network throughout my boat (installed in 2007). I recently purchased an i70s Multifunction Display RS 130 GPS Sensor and all the components to build a STng throughout my boat.

I am having some difficulties with some of the old ST1 instruments and the ST2 Keyboard, and in particular, I cannot see any of the ST1, ST2 or STng instruments under Menu/System Diagnostics/External Interfaces/SeaTalk or SeaTalk NG. The MFD freezes when I select Menu/System Devices/External Interfaces/SeaTalk NG.

All of my devices have the most recent software upgrades installed, including the ST1-STng Converters.

Attached are three SeaTalk Wiring Diagrams that I have devised for my new SeaTalk system.
- Mat-Lau III Proposed (1) installs a STng backbone throughout the boat and uses two ST1-STng Converters to split and interface the ST1 network. The ST1 network is not connected to the MFD directly with an E120 - ST1 connector cable.
-Mat-Lau III Proposed (2) maintains the original ST1 network and connects the ST1 network to the MFD via the original E120 - ST1 connector cable. The STng instruments are connected to the MFD via a seperate STng backbone via an E120 - STng connector cable. This option provides the least disruption to my original ST1 network.
-Mat-Lau III Proposed (3) is another variation to Proposal (2).

Can you please review my network diagrams and comment on which is the best arrangement and the one that is likely to give me the least amount of grief. Will these network arrangements work OK? I would prefer to leave the existing ST1 network in tack as much as possible in order to avoid extensive rewiring.

Best regards - Kevin Hiscox

Questions re. Raymarine A68

My unit is an OEM option with a new Boston Whaler. Two issues:

When I read the advertisement literature it showed boxes on the fishfinder screen that displayed speed, temp and depth. I cannot find the temp option in the box menu. Do I need a special transducer? Mine has no ID on it that I can see but I believe it is a CPT-100DVS.

Secondly, I did add a box with the speed option, and it does show the box with "-MPH". I get no speed readout. However, on the "Data" screen it does show the speed, so I guess the GPS is actually working. How do I get it to read?

Thanks in advance for any help...
