Wheel not turning

We had the autopilot working through dockside calibration, then had to relocate the ACU and reroute the power and motor cables. Pilot now powers up, but when you press AUTO, you hear the clutch engage, but the helm does not respond to course changes. Tried factory rest and repeated calibration through dockside, but know change. Power measures 12V at ACU. Motor output reads a steady 6V while in AUTO.

Disappearing AIS targets

Last year we replaced much of our electronics. New instruments include Es95 MFD, Ray60 VHF, Raymarine Digital Radar. This is interfaced to our existing SmartPilot S2, and AIS 250. We also have a new VHF antennae.

The antennae is run to the AIS and then connects from the AIS to the VHF. Radio functionality is fine.

In another thread I reported that the MFD would lose the name and other information on targets while a different navigation program (OpenCPN) would not. It was determined that the OpenCPN has a cache of mmsi/names file, whereas the Es does not. Feature request was made.

This is a different problem.

I have come to realize that targets are DISAPPEARING from the Es95 but not the OpenCPN program. Last week I was sailing across SF Bay and AGAIN had a target DISAPPEAR from the display, while it did continue to display on the OpenCPN software being fed the same data. This was a large ship leaving from east of us and heading west out the Golden Gate Bridge.Their course was across our path and I was paying attention to the vector I set on the MFD. Then it disappeared. We have had situations where fog sweeps into SF Bay -- it happens. Having a target disappear in the fog would be many times worse than disappearing in good daylight conditions. Both are bad.

Configuration . . . the antennae is at the top of the mast and a cable goes to the base of the mast where it connects to a cable that was already in place in the previous system. That goes to the AIS 250, and a short cable connects from the AIS to the Ray 60. I have two pairs connected to the AIS 250 Nema Out. One to the Raymarine system and another to a "MiniPlex Lite" and then a COM/USB connection to a computer.

It's difficult to document a disappearing target because I can't memorize all targets on display and one then missing, let alone do a screen shot before it disappears. None-the-less, attached are two screenshots from the MFD. The area is the entrance to San Francisco Bay. In Dump006 at 21:36 there is no AIS target in the entrance to SF Bay, but in Dump007 at 21:38 there is . . . two minutes later! My recollection is that I had seen this AIS target before it disappeared. In any case we regularly view AIS targets out in the shipping lanes (and do look for them as they can be on us sooner than one might think). I'm hard pressed to think the second screen shot was the first we had seen of this ship.

I'm finding that the AIS has become more of a troubleshooting problem than a help in navigation. I need find out what's going on soonest.

Can I use GPS without Navionics Card?

$

Hi all -

Bought a Pro 7 with Nav+, promptly lost the Nav+ card.

With the GPS feature, can I still use the chartplotter, and will it show me any detail on the US lakes? It seemed like it was not giving me any water detail when I was out on Bull Shoals Lake, and the water appeared the same way land does.

Appreciate any help/advice.

Axiom MFDs are not compatible with the DSM300 and DSM30

Axiom MFDs are not compatible with the DSM300 and DSM30 50kHz/200kHz Digital Sonar Modules. Accordingly, it would be recommended that the transducers which have been interfaced to these DSMs be disconnected from the DSM and that they be adapted for use with the Axiom DV or Axiom RV MFD. Alternatively, the DSM30 or DSM300 may be replaced with a CP370 ClearPulse Sonar Module Transducers which have been designed for use with a DSM30 or DSM300 are also compatible with the CP370.

RL70C Plus System Upgrade

I had the marina install the AIS650 and somehow they smoked either the Radome Scanner or the display. Apparently parts are no longer available, so the question becomes, what replaces the current equipment? Would like to get as close to the original equipment as possible. Here's what's on board;
4kW Radome Scanner (48nm).
Type 150/400 Auto Pilot
RayNav 300 GPS Plotter
RL70C Plus 7" Color Display
ST6001 SmartPilot Controller
ST60 Tri Data
Ray215 VHF Radio

Or, will any of this interface with the new display/radar?

When flush mounting the Axiom 9 the miro sd slot is difficult to access. Does Raymarine offer an extension that can mounted on the dash and utilize the SD slot in the back of unit.

Seatalkng card reader

I think it would be a great idea to have a Seatalkng card reader so one could update software on various Raymarine devices without having to have a Raymarine MFD. Garmin has such a device that plugs into a NMEA 2000 network.

Greetings,
On my old RM C90W the actual name of my waypoints were displayed on the chartplotter. On my new E125s I'm unable to figure out how to get the waypoint names to display on the chart. Thanks.

Almost Completed Axiom Network Question

I am in the process of installing my new Axiom network as is displayed in the attached PDF named AXIOM NETWORK. The attached JPEG named HELM is a photo of my installation of the two 9" Axiom MFD's, and the RMK-10 which are networked to the HS5 Seatalk hs Network Switch under the helm. The two MFD's are also connected to the SeaTalk ng backbone which includes the iTC-5. For my installation have properly terminated the backbone Tee-connectors and iTC-5 as is portrayed in the AXIOM NETWORK attachment. The i70s is connected to the iTC-5 by a spur cable. The Actisense NGW-1-ISO is installed but not wired yet and the RD424HD 4kW HD Color Digital Radome is not yet installed or networked. I have not connected the speed/temp and depth transducer wires to the iTC-5 yet.

I believe I have the network set up right. The MFD on the helm, port side contain the Navionics+ chip, is also the Data Master, and is set to receive the GPS signal (the GPS is turned off on the starboard side MFD). I know I have connected the SeaTalk hs network correctly because I am sharing the Navionics+ chart from the port side MFD with the MFD on the helm starboard side via the HS5 Seatalk hs Network Switch and the chart displays on both MFD's perfectly (I am also showing three green flashing lights on the network switch, one for each MFD and one for the RMK-10). The RMK-10 is connected to the HS5 Seatalk hs Network Switch so when I pair each MFD with it independently, I can use the RMK-10 to control each one (I haven't been able to get the RMK-10 to control both paired MFD's seamlessly as is mentioned below). The i70s is showing the Latitude and Longitude data from the MFD GPS Data so I know I have the backbone/iTC-5/i70s connected correctly.

Everything I have completed in my network installation works so far but I have one issue with the RMK-10 controlling the MFD's. I'm not sure if I just can't figure it out or if there is a problem. To utilize the RMK-10 to control both MFD's I understand I need to pair both MFD's to the RMK-10 in the setup menu of each, which I know how to do. The problem is that after both MFD's are paired with the RMK-10, it will only associate with the MFD I paired it with first. When I press the Active Button on the RMS-10 and then use the Unicontroller to select different icons on the home page menu or application panes it will work fine for the MFD I paired it with first. What I can't figure out is how to get the RMK-10 to associate (or jump over) to make active the icons and panes of the other MFD (the one I paired second). If for example, I have both MFD's set to half page Navionics+ charts and I press the Active Button, the MFD I paired first will have one chart pane become active. When I press the Active Button on the RMS-10 again, the next chart pane on that MFD will become active. When I press the Active Button a third time, shouldn't a half chart pane on the other MFD (the one I paired second) become active? then, when I press the Active button again, shouldn't the next half chart pane on the second MFD becomes active and then, when I press it again, shouldn't it jump back to the first MFD chart pane, etc...? I have not been able to get that to happen. The only way I have been able to get the second paired MFD icons and application panes to become active is by un-pairing the active MFD. When I do that, a home page icon or application pane on the second MFD immediately becomes active. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Some help figuring this out would be helpful. Thank you.

eS78 + Axiom not working

$

Hello all!

I recently acquired a 9" Axiom plotter for the cockpit of my sailboat, to complement an eS78 I have at the chart table. They're interfaced via an HS5, along with a Quantum radar.

However, the eS78 has taken a disliking to the Axiom. It seems to alternately acquire and lose the Axiom as a data master, causing it to nearly freeze as it endlessly alerts and quickly recovers: https://goo.gl/photos/XMCMs1zJiJwUin359

I also have a Quantum radar connected to the HS5, which both displays are capable of seeing and using when the other is offline, so I don't think there are network connectivity problems between them.

The Axiom, for its part, correctly identifies the eS78 on the network when prompting for which display to make the Data Master.

I applied all current software updates before making that video - same result.

Any thoughts? Could this be a Lighthouse 2 vs 3 problem?

New Axiom vs Dragonfly

I previously had a Dragonfly 7 and loved it. Unfortunately, I had to sell it because the transducer was too large for my 55lb thrust trolling motor. I know the new Axiom's have faster processors, touch screens, and RealTime 3D if I want that. In terms of just the quality of the Sonar and Downscan, are the new units better than the Dragonfly or should I expect about the same results?

Navionics chip in e95

I have a Navionics chart chip from my previous B&G chartplotter. I have tried to use it in my new e95 which came with Lighthouse charts, but it does not seem to be recognized. Is there a way to get it to work?

E120 Fuel Used

I have Yamaha F250's connected to my E120 via a NMEA2k network. I get all of the engine data on my MFD, but can't figure out how to get the "fuel used" value to work. I get fuel burn, so presumably fuel used would simply be a math function storing the fuel burned values.

Can you tell me how to get this feature to work properly? I would much rather use this feature than a tank level sensor in my tanks due to their shape.

Thank you!

Can an Axiom MFD be interfaced to an a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD?

Can an Axiom MFD be interfaced to an a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD?

LightHouse II software does not support integration of a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs within MFDs operating with LightHouse 3 software (i.e. Axiom MFDs) via Ethernet communications. However, it is possible to interface an a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD running LightHouse II software to a MFD running LightHouse 3 software via SeaTalkng communications to support limited communications (alphanumeric GPS, instrument, navigation, and system state data) between the MFDs. Upon the release and subsequent installation of LightHouse 3 software for the a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs, it will be possible for an a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD to be interfaced to an Axiom MFD(s) via Ethernet communications to support sharing of all system data and resources (except for NTSC/PAL video sources).

Please click here to view a FAQ addressing when LightHouse 3 software for a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs is expected to be released.

live sonar mapping

SR50 Compatibility with A95

I was expecting limited performance from an existing SR50 weather receiver when viewed on a new A95 MFD - in particular the audio would not be available. While it does display marine text forecasts and local surface observations, NowRad and other graphics products are not shown. Also of note, zooming out, except very slowly, will crash the A95 and cause it to reboot (and lose the weather cache it had acquired). The SR50 does connect to the A95, and both are running the latest software releases (very old for SR50). I've configured on the A95 to use an "SR50" and to show NowRad graphics. Signal strength is high or medium. I allowed 30 minutes for refresh on multiple occasions.

Is there hope to use the SR50 with the A95, or should I install the old C80 as a temporary way to use the SR50 for this season? To troubleshoot, I temporarily did that and confirmed that the NowRad, etc. are still available when the C80 hosts the SR50. Thanks! Ted

Keyboard beep alarm on G120

I have a pair of GPM-400s, with a compact keyboard hooked up via SeaTalkng. when the system starts up (there's a switch on the dashboard that powers the system), the 2nd GPM-400 (not the master) seems to boot faster than the master, and the alarm beeps loudly for about 30 seconds until the keyboard is responsive, and then it stops.

Is there a change i can make so that it doesn't beep?

Navionics

I recently purchased a boat with a pair of G120/GPM400 MFDs, which had a Navionics card for another part of the US. I bought a Platinum CF card and put it into the master GPM-400, and I'd like to know if there is a way to verify that the GPM is using the charts from the card. It's hard to see a difference between the embedded charts and the new ones, if they're being used.

Thanks,

Josh

Vesper not talking over seatalk ng

$

Hi Chuck,

I have hooked a Vesper 8000 AIS to my system via SeaTalk ng, using a DeviceNet adapter cable, but the GPM-400/G120 does not see the unit or receive AIS data.

I have tried connecting the vesper both to the Seatalkng hub using a spur cable, and using a t connector with terminator. In both cases, I was able to get the compact keyboard to connect, but not the AIS. I also checked the system diagnostics to see what ng devices were connected, but only the keyboard is seen.

I've updated the firmware on the GPM 400 to 4.66, the firmware in the vesper, rebooted everything, but nothing seems to work.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
