RF drain wire on power cords

I am refitting my boat with Raymarine gear; a78 MFD, CP200 sidevision sonar, and an EV100 autopilot system.

I have a question concerning the termination of the drain wire. My boat does not appear to have a common grounding point. I see in the manuals that it is permissible to wire the RF drain wire directly to the negative of the battery.

I have installed a new fuse block specifically for the new electronics. It is ran back to an independent battery that will be used only for the new electronics. Engine start and all pre existing electrical components are run off a separate battery (although I plan to set it up so the engine will charge the new battery when running).

That said, can I just terminate the RF grounds with the negative wires from each individual power cord for each individual component together at the newly installed fuse block?

Rudder sensor needed for new EV-100 wheel install?

Just putting together an EV-100 wheel system for our Catalina 310. Wondering how important the rudder sensor is? Someone whose boating and electronics opinion I greatly respect says he won't install an AP without one. But it seems that Raymarine isn't encouraging them, in fact it's hard to find it on their web site.

I guess maybe it depends some on how we'll be using the AP, and relates some to battery usage, and accuracy.

I can always install it later, if it turns out to be useful.

MFD will not recognize radar

$

Installed my eS MDF and Quantum radar this weekend.

Thought the radar install would be easy as there are only two cables.

Radar mounted on my pole perfectly and I ran the power and data cables to the nav area. Plugged the data cable into the eS and wired the radar to the distribution panel (15A circuit breaker with 5A inline fuse). MFD will not recognize radar. All connections are good.

What troubleshooting steps should I follow?

Thanks.

Weather Receiver not detected after a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD software update

Should the MFDs within the system have previously detected ((HOME->SET-UP->MAINTENANCE->DIAGNOSTICS->SELECT DEVICE) the system's SiriusXM Satellite weather/radio receiver and now not do so after having updated the software within the system's MFDs, then the problem will typically be rooted in one of the following:
- not having configured the Weather Set-Up's Receiver Type (HOME->SET-UP->SYSTEM SETTINGS->EXTERNAL DEVICES->WEATHER SET-UP->RECEIVER TYPE) to match the model of SiriusXM Satellite weather/radio receiver which has been installed within the system
- if interfaced to a SR50 Sirius Satellite/Radio Receiver, not having configured the proper MFD as the system's Data Master MFD. The Data Master MFD will typically be the MFD which has been the system's SiriusXM Satellite weather/radio receiver. A simple test to determine whether the MFD has been the system's SiriusXM Satellite weather/radio receiver would be to inspect the MFD's Select Device list for devices networked via SeaTalkng (vs SeaTalkhs (Ethernet)). Should the SeaTalk bus be powered and no devices be listed, then another MFD should be designated as the system's Data Master (HOME->MAINTENANCE->DATA MASTER).
- not having powered the the system's SiriusXM Satellite weather/radio receiver ON ... as MFDs are not designed to supply power to a the system's SiriusXM Satellite weather/radio receiver, verify that the the system's SiriusXM Satellite weather/radio receiver's power circuit has been switch ON by checking that the SiriusXM Satellite weather/radio receiver's Status LED is illuminated.

Should the above items not correct the problem, then click here to view a FAQ providing more information on troubleshooting SiriusXM Satellite Weather.

Satellite weather is being received, but not satellite radio

Separate subscriptions are required for SiriusXM Marine Weather and SiriusXM Satellite Radio. Many vessels are equipped with SiriusXM ready stereo head units. Such stereo head units may play SiriusXM programming by one of the following means:
- the audio output port of the SiriusXM Satellite Weather/Radio Receiver has been interfaced to the stereo head unit's AUX IN port. Correspondingly, the stereo head unit must be configured to listen to use the AUX IN port when desiring to listen to Sirius Satellite Radio programming. When interfaced in this manner, the SiriusXM Satellite Weather/Radio Receiver must be powered ON when whenever desiring to listen to SiriusXM Satellite Radio programming. The Data Master MFD must be powered on whenever SiriusXM Satellite Radio program selection will be changed. SiriusXM program selection would be exclusively performed via the MFD's SiriusXM Audio app displayed on the MFD's screen.
- the stereo head has been interfaced to a SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner. When interfaced to a SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner, the Raymarine equipment need not be powered/switched ON. When so interfaced, SiriusXM program selection cannot be performed via the SiriusXM Audio app displayed on the MFD's screen. SiriusXM program selection may performed via one of the following:
---- via the stereo head unit's user interface;
---- via a smartphone/tablet which has connected to the stereo head unit / Bluetooth receiver via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and is running a compatible app permitting remote control of the stereo head unit.

I50 tridata termination?

$

I have an i50 tridata that is replacing an st60 tridata. I have used the seatalk ng to seatalk connector cable to connect it to the remaining st60 and it appears to work OK. There is a remaining seatalk ng connector on the i50 which is not in use. Does that need the supplied terminator, or is OK just left unused? Thanks.

ST60+ MOB event

We currently have one e125 connected to four ST60+ Graphic instruments as well as a LifeTag system.
When testing the LifeTag system, all instruments and MFD behave as expected, displaying MOB alarm and course to MOB.
When clearing the alarm on either the MFD or from the LifeTag, the ST60+ instruments do not clear and continue to display MOB alarm.
Only operational button on the instruments is far left “Chapter” button which resets the individual instrument to the Position Page.
Shouldn’t clearing the MFD and/or LifeTag MOB event also clear the instruments?

Planning sw for A/C/E-Series Classic MFDs, G-Series GPM400, and C/E-Series Wide MFDs

Planning software for A/C/E-Series Classic MFDs, G-Series GPM400, and C/E-Series Wide MFDs

The A/C/E-Series Classic MFDs, G-Series GPM400, and C/E-Series Widescreen MFDs are designed to import waypoints, routes, and tracks from a compatible CF memory card. Unlike Raymarine's a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs which support GPX file format, these retired MFDs require a computer application supporting Raymarine's proprietary Archive.FSH file format for waypoint, route, and track data. Prior to the retirement of the A/C/E-Series Classic MFDs, G-Series GPM400, and C/E-Series Widescreen MFDs, Raymarine had offered the E86026 Navionics Multicard Reader and RayTech Planner software for planning waypoints and routes. As a) RayTech Planner did not support the A62311 Raymarine microSD to CF Cartography Adapter, b) the E86026 Navionics Multicard Reader has not been available since the retirement of these MFDs, and c) the E86026 Navionics Multicard Reader is not compatible with Window 10, Raymarine is no longer recommending RayTech Planner for use with these retired MFDs. Several years ago, Raymarine introduced Raymarine Voyage Planner as a replacement for RayTech Planner and now recommends that Raymarine Voyage Planner software be used for all waypoint/route planning in conjunction with Raymarine MFDs.

ST 50+ Tridata

Hello.
Over the last couple of years our speed sensor works at the beginning of the season, but gradually works less and less as the season progresses. My local Raymarine dealer (Binnacle.ca) has a complete transducer as well as the paddlewheel kit.
My question is: Would the kit likely solve the problem or would transducer replacement be the best bet in your opinion?
Thank You
-Steve

LightHouse Charts file encryption

$
0
0
LightHouse cartography is encrypted for use with the microSD memory card onto which it was first downloaded from the LightHouse Charts Store. As such, a properly populated microSD memory card containing LightHouse Charts may be ejected from the memory card reader of an a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD and then inserted into the memory card reader of another a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD operating with the latest a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD software to permit the cartography to be viewed on the other MFD. However, copying the contents of a properly populated microSD memory card containing LightHouse Charts to another microSD memory card will result in a mismatch of the Lighthouse_ID.txt file with the second microSD memory card, prohibiting use of the copied LightHouse Charts with the second microSD memory card.

When a microSD memory card is inserted into the memory card reader of a fully booted a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD operating with the latest a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD software, the MFD will save a Lighthouse_ID.txt file onto the microSD memory card. The Lighthouse_ID.txt file will be unique to the memory card onto which it was saved (i.e. inserting another microSD memory card into the MFD's memory card reader will cause a slightly different Lighthouse_ID.txt file to be stored on the second microSD memory card).

In order to download LightHouse Charts which have been purchased from the LightHouse Charts Store, a microSD memory card having a Lighthouse_ID.txt file must be present with the computers memory card reader. Once downloaded from the LightHouse Charts Store, these same purchased LightHouse Charts may only be downloaded to the same microSD memory card onto which they had been originally downloaded.

Mount for P70R

$

Has anyone come across a mount for the P70R? The only thing I have found so far is the very pricey NavPod option. I just want a cradle style mount for my P70R controller. Flush mounting on the dash is not possible due to space constraints. Even though there is enough space in a few spots, it would just be too ungainly to try and reach the unit, as I would have to almost reach around the wheel. I want to put it in a cradle just to the left of the helm so it will be easily reachable. The only option I can come up with is building a small little box to mount it in and then mount that to dash.

I'm attaching a picture of where I intend to place the unit.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
