Removal of marine electronics in preparation for winter layup

$

With the exception of those those devices which may be easily removed from the vessel, it is not a common practice for modern marine electronics devices to be removed from the vessel in preparation for winter layup unless there are concerns about theft of the marine electronics. That said, care should be taken to protect the products from accumulation of snow and ice. Additionally, any removable thru-hull transducer inserts should be extracted from their respective housings to prevent any trapped water from freezing within the housings. The supplied blanking plug w/cap should then be installed in place of any transducer insert which has been extracted from a transducer housing.

Within a system of more than one MFD, what is the function of the Data Master?

$

0
One and only one MFD within the system must at all times of operation be configured as the system's Data Master MFD (HOME->MAINTENANCE->DATA MASTER). System settings (Data Source selections, boat details, units, page settings, etc.) and data (waypoints, routes, tracks) are stored within memory of the Data Master MFD. This information is shared with the non-Data Master MFDs via an Ethernet network. Of the system's MFDs, only the Data Master MFD will communicate with the SeaTalkng backbone. Accordingly, Data Source selection (HOME->SET-UP->SYSTEM SETTINGS->DATA SOURCES) may only be commanded from the Data Master MFD. As it is a common concept of operations in systems having two or more MFDs located at different stations (bridge, flybridge, navigation station, etc.) that only the MFD at that station will be switched ON, it will be necessary to interface each such MFD as a spur to the SeaTalkng backbone. To prevent possible loss of system data in such a system, it is recommended that all MFDs be switched ON prior to assigning a different MFD as the system's Data Master.

Will S3 Computer accept outside NMEA Heading?

$

Apparently a lightening strike got to my AIS (now back with Raymarine for repair) and my S3G Course Computer (dead SeaTalk and Rudder Reference inputs).

1) I have recently installed an Airmar Heading Sensor (with 3 axis gyros and accelerometers) to feed the E140 Wide MFD's.

2) I have access to an S3 (non-gyro) computer. I believe the manual says that it accepts HDG, HDM, and HDT sentences.

Question: Would the S3 work using the Fast Heading from the Heading Sensor?

I assume that I would not hook up the fluxgate compass.

What would be the best way to get the heading to the course computer? SeaTalk from the MFD? NMEA direct from the Heading Sensor? (I think it needs RMC to figure out Variation).

E165 VS GS165 Screen

I'm looking to upgrade from my Classic E-120.

I'm interested in the screen coatings on these units. My E-120 anti glare coating is 99% intact but its always a concern. The GS units seem to be more durable in that aspect being glass? What about the screen on the E165, does it have a delicate antiglare casting like the old e-120?

I read an article that the GS screens are compatible with Polarized sunglasses. What does that translate to? how will it compare to the classic e-120 with polarized glasses.

Data Source Selection

Are there any plans to allow data source selection on EVO autopilots when non Raymarine devices are part of the STNG/NMEA2000 network? I would really like to tell the EVO what to take route/track data from.

I have a NMEA device that I would like to connect to my C120 classic. I have an open Seatalk2 port on the back of the C120. Could you tell me what adapter cable I would need to hookup the C120 via the open Seatalk2 port a standard NMEA 2000 plug (on the other device)?

Thanks

Frozen screen on MFD a125

Hi

Trying to connect to our Marina network, it froze the screen and I cannot do anything.

The error message I am getting on the screen:

"Unable to connect
has issued an IP address which conflicts with your Raymarine network 10.20.14.49
Please change the access point settings or contact the network administrator"

I have been in contact with 2 Raymarine support persons:
1. Unplug and plug back the power: didn't do anything
2. Reset the system: did it but didn't help

Did anybody had a similar experience?

Thanks!

Does the X10 output speed/wind/depth data on the NMEA 0183 interface?
Speed/wind/depth are connected via ST. STng is not being used.
I am trying to interface to a Garmin 4210 via 0183.

Transducer Compatibility

I currently have a Raymarine A70D installed that I will be replacing with an eS127 early next year.

The transducer is a Airmar P79 #31-234-1-11 that has the #33-622-01 adapter cable connected to the A70D.

Can this transducer be adapted to the eS127?
Thanks,
Neal

My S100 will not link to the antenna. Changed the batteries.
It will power up and search, if I push any button the remote shuts down.

Which a/c/e/eS-Series MFDs may the xducer from my A-Series Classic MFD be used with?

Raymarine and Airmar 50/200 kHz fishfinder transducers which had been successfully used with the A-Series Classic MFDs featuring internal 50/200 kHz fishfinder circuitry (A50D, A57D, A70D) may simply be unplugged from the Transducer socket of the A-Series MFD and instead may be interfaced to the Transducer socket of any of the following MFDs:
- a-Series MFDs featuring internal 50/200 kHz ClearPulse Fishfinder circuitry (a67, a77, a97, a127)
- c-Series MFDs featuring internal 50/200 kHz ClearPulse Fishfinder circuitry (c97, c127)
- e-Series MFDs featuring internal 50/200 kHz ClearPulse Fishfinder circuitry (e7D, e97, e127)
- eS-Series MFDs featuring internal 50/200 kHz ClearPulse Fishfinder circuitry (eS77, eS97, eS127)

Radar Mounting Options

$

Greetings,

I'm looking at replacing my C80 plotter with a newer model, and adding Radar to my 38' sailing vessel (Quantum). From my discussions, there are two common options for mounting the Radome.
1.) Mount on the mast - this seems to be the most common solution. I have concerns here as my genoa seems to beat the [censored] out of my steaming light, and I fear it would do the same to the radome.
2.) Mount on a stern pole - There are several reasons I'm not keen on this idea, including the cost and real-estate.

There is a third option I would like to explore, mounting on the Dinghy Davits. I won't have the height, but I don't necessarily need to look out 75 miles either. Any advice out there?

Voyage Planner Waypoint Entry Question

$

Hi All,

On our trip up the East Coast from Ft Lauderdale to Annapolis (ICW & Offshore) I have been using the Navionics App to create routes and transferring them to the e125 in the cockpit and with only a few snags it has worked quite well. The area I have an issue with is trying to incorporate into a route a few waypoint thats I exact Lat/Long coordinates for.

The Navionics App only lets one create the waypoints on a touch screen and refining the waypoint to an exact coordinate is next to impossible, so I am giving serious thought to purchasing Voyager Planner to see if I can do what I need in that program.

So before I purchase the program to use on my Win10 laptop I have a few question:

Can I enter waypoint Lat/Long coordinates via keyboard to "move" or correct the location of an existing waypoint OR can I create a waypoint with the mouse/cursor then add or correct a waypoint by coordinates/keyboard entry?

Along these lines, instead of the Voyager Palnner, can I create a route on the iPad App, transfer it to the e125, correct the handful of waypoints with an onscreen keyboard, then save the file and transfer it BACK to the iPad app? I tried something similar by altering a route on the iPad AND changing it's name but this "new" file is not synced with the iPad. Why??

Also, can I open existing routes that are on the iPad app/e125 on Voyage Planner and modify those and save it as a new route and the put it back on the e125?

Thanks much for your help!!

Replace C80 with e97 or es98?

The 'E' series are on a fire sale now with some vendors, and I'm thinking about replacing my C80 MFD with an E97. Does anybody have any advice on the C80 -> E97 swap? I'm thinking about the Es98, but I'm not sure I would use all of the features entailed for my 38' coastal cruiser....

Multiple Mfds to multiple iPads

I am considering two MFDs networked together. I believe that only one iPad or Android can be connected via wifi to a single MFD? If this is the case, if I have two MFDs networked together, can one MFD (the master), be connected to one iPad, and the other MFD be connected at the same time to a different iPad, allowing me to show for example, radar on one iPad and charts on another?

Allow apps to connect to MFD when device and MFD are clients to the same network

Currently you have to join the the MFD's WiFi Access point to be able to use the Raymarine Apps (RayRemote, etc). My boat has an existing WiFi network which has better performance and coverage than the MFD's network.

Please make so the apps will work when the MFD and Device (iPhone, etc.) have both joined the same WiFi network. (listen on the client WiFi network and on the AP)

thanks!

Sonar Chart Live

When running at speed my sonar chart live function creates a very dense, compressed line of depth lines and paints the area around them a light pink and/or tan. As a result my charts now are covered in light pink/tan streaks in the middle of which are thick, black streaks representing the depth lines. As a consequence I have stopped using the sonar chart live function until I understand what's happening. Do you have any idea? Thanks for your helpo.
