AIS False Alarms

I have a model 250 AIS receiver and it works great. However, as more and more recreational boaters add AIS transceiver to their boats, they don't bother to turn them off while at the marina. As a result when I am approaching a marina and trying to dock, I get alarm after alarm--all from vessels tied to the dock. Can the Model 250 be adjusted to ignore vessels which are not moving or is there another solution?

AIS250 not populating on eS98

While sailing I had noticed that our Raymarine AIS 250 (older equipment I know) seemed not to obtain a vessels name in any reasonable timeframe and display it on our eS98 (a couple of months old). I do know that the AIS system does not transmit the vessel name constantly, but that it is one of many data pieces transmitted in sequence. I am only guessing that the MMSI number might be the link for them all.

While sailing I didn't have the time to properly (safely) check this out, but today while sitting at the dock I was able to check more closely.

I setup my computer to run OpenCPN at the same time as our Raymarine system. The OpenCPN program and the Raymarine eS98 would both be "listening" to the same AIS250 data stream.

I turned on the system and checked AIS targets. It appears that both Raymarine and OpenCPN saw the same targets at the same time, but the OpenCPN system DID show the vessel name while the eS98 did NOT.

I've attached three files. The OpenCPN screenshot shows the Adventure Cat-2 with MMSI 366864850 (black rectangle around the boat) and the screenshot also shows the time of 23:45 UTC (lower left corner). One Raymarine screenshot is the chart with the red circle around the vessel. The other is the AIS details showing the MMSI number and no name. The time is two minutes after the OpenCPN view.

The MFD is running version 17.45. I have restarted the system a couple of times, and the names do show but it takes awhile. Right now, just prior to posting this, I restarted the electronics. After six minutes the name Adventure Cat does NOT show on the eS98 but does on OpenCPN. Previous observations seem to show some vessel names do seem to populate more quickly than others, but I wouldn't begin to know why.

When a large vessel is approaching our sailing area, I need the name in a reasonable period. I have to say that waiting an extended period of time for names to populate on the MFD is not, frankly, safe. For instance, if I feel a need to call the Vessel Traffic System I am not going to ask for information on MMSI 123456789, but need to request information based on vessel name.

Hoping to resolve this soonest.

PS - Double checked recent restart at twelve minutes and the Adventure Cat name is displaying now.

Update: Shortly after writing my first post (above) I got to thinking about the comparison of the es98 with OpenCPN. In particular I wondered if the OpenCPN has a cache of MMSI to Vessel Names, and it does.

I have run OpenCPN a on a semi-regular basis over the past few years, so it had an "advantage" over the eS98.

I may try erasing the cache and do the test over again, and my hunch is that the two systems will record the names at the same time.

ITC-5 Wind Speed Data Issue

I am having an issue with wind speed data on my system and believe that the issue may reside with my ITC-5, but looking for a way to confirm. System is set up on a relatively simple SeaTalk NG network that i have attached for information. The current system was installed in June of 15'. I am currently not receiving any wind speed information, but do have wind direction. The ITC-5 status indicator for wind has a slow continuous pulse. the voltages at the ITC-5 and masthead junction box are as follows: Red/grd=8.49V, Blue/grd=2.5V (variable), Green/grd=5.5V (variable), Yellow/grd=3.27V (steady). All instruments show data correctly with exception of wind speed at 0.0. If i remove yellow connector off ITC-5 and measure voltage coming from the masthead, it reads 1.1V (variable). Reading voltage at ITC-5 yellow post without connector on it reads 3.27V (steady). I'm not sure i should be reading voltage at the yellow post on the ITC-5? Is there another test to confirm where issue may reside? Thanks for the assistance..

I purchased the Dragonfly 4 Pro and updated the MFD to the latest version. Before and after the upgrade I still cannot mark any fish. So, I am wondering, do I have to have the DVS transducer to mark fish? I'm not sure what transducer shipped with my Dragonfly 4 Pro.

Good morning,
I'm looking for a part number for the actuator with built in clutch. I do not need the pump as it is still good. The type of actuator I have is round, not square and the hoses attach on top, not from the rear. Please advise as to a part number for the complete cylinder with built in clutch - without the pump
Thanks

Raymarine's Hydraulic Linear Drives are manufactured and sold as a complete and closed system. Unfortunately, Raymarine does not separately sell the parts which make up its hydraulic linear drives. Should a component(s) of a Raymarine Hydraulic Linear Drive have failed, then the complete hydraulic linear drive should be sent to Raymarine’s Product Repair Center to be bench checked / serviced.

Advanced Options greyed out on a98

$

I have an a98 running v17.45-00403. Periodically, the Advanced Options menu page where I turn SonarCharts on and off becomes greyed out so none of the menu options can be accessed. Sometimes this happens when SonarCharts is off, so it cannot be turned on. Sometimes it happens when SonarCharts is on, so it cannot be turned off. In this latter case, however, while old SonarCharts Live tracks still show on the Chart application, the a98 ceases to create new SonarCharts Live tracks. To date, I have not found any consistent way of getting these Advanced Options menu choices to cease being grey and go back to being black so I can access them again. For example, it makes no difference whether Sonar Logging is turned on or off. I have also tried removing all user logs from the Navionics card, which causes old SonarCharts Live tracks to disappear, but makes no difference to the Advanced Options menu remaining greyed out. However, after a while, if I keep trying to access these menu options, eventually they go black again and begin behaving normally.

When it is in this mode, all other a98 applications seem to operate perfectly well - only the Advanced Options menu items are greyed out. If it helps, I have observed two occasions when the a98 was operating normally and I was creating a SonarCharts Live track, when the a98 spontaneously rebooted itself. When it finished the boot cycle, the Advanced Options menu page was now greyed out and the SonarCharts Live track stopped adding new data.

If you wish me to do any troubleshooting, the current status of the a98 (boat sitting on a trailer in my driveway) is that when I turn it on, the Advanced Options menu is greyed out with SonarCharts Live turned on.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide. I am really loving the a98 and Rev 17 software in all other aspects but this one issue.

Autopilot Standby and Auto buttons blinking

$

When powering up my instruments my ST6000AP had blinking standby and auto buttons and a constant beeping. The display did not show anything. My setup is an A128 MFD connected to STNG and ST60 wind ST60 multi and ST6000AP (on S1 course computer).
This has been working flawlessly since I installed the A128 about 20 months ago. The troubleshooting guide shows nothing regarding the blinking. I assume since the buttons are blinking and there is a beep that the power is reaching the ST6000. The odd thing is, when I set a mark on the MFD and GOTO that mark the AP works as it should.
Any ideas?

AIS 650 - STNG Output Not Working, NMEA Does.

$

My AIS 650 suddenly stopped talking via STNG to my E-140 Widescreen, and started showing the AIS as “OFF” on the sensor status bar. It boots up fine, shows an amber light and then a steady green light (normal). The Diagnostics / External Interfaces / ST NG, shows no devices active, although there is packet activity (perhaps from a ST GPS feeding ST NG through an adapter?)

I’ve swapped out the ST NG spur cable, no change. I disconnected the STNG cable, hooked up the NMEA bi-directional connection, and the AIS now works, but only at NMEA 4800 baud, and not at AIS 38400. I have updated the AIS software to 1.15.01 via SD card, and the ProAIS software shows this version and Port 1 set to 38400.

Questions: Is this a Software or a Hardware glitch? In the AIS or the display? Can I just hook up AIS IN to the #3 NMEA 0183 port on the E140 at 4800 baud (and save a bi-directional port) and what would I lose in using 4800 baud and in not having AIS OUT back to the AIS? Most importantly, can I trust the AIS unit's reliability in the future, or should it be returned and repaired?

Replace C70 with eS78

$

I have a C70 MFD, through hull traqnsducer, and radar on our boat (a 27' single I/O powered cruiser), but no autopilot. I would like to replace this system with the eS78/Quantum radar bundle. This seems like a rater simple replacement, but I have some questions:

1) With the C70 (and latest firmware) you must have a separate electronic compass in order to display radar returns over the chart. Does the eS78 have the same limitation? How does it get heading information when sitting still? Can it? Is there perhaps an "internal compass" in the unit itself?

2) What components would I need in order to have a functioning autopilot and would all autopilot controls be driven via the eS78 or would I need an additional autopilot control module?

3) I saw a Raymarine video on the Quantum radar. In this video it showed two cables while the narrator talked about the fact that you only need a single cable for power. Questions: Can I utilize existing power cables (from my C70 system), and can I use existing data cables and forego the wireless radar? If I forego the wireless radar, will I still be able to "stream" radar data to an iPad?

4) Lastly, I'm not sure what transducer I currently have on my C70, but it's through hull. Would this transducer likely work if I went with the eS77 unit understanding I won't have "Downvision" capabilities, but would prevent me from having to drill another [censored] in the boat?

Thank you for your help. I plan to purchase in the next few days.

True wind on eS128

I use an Airmar PB150 ultrasonic wind sensor. Previously I had it connected to C90W, then e97 displays and both were capable of displaying apparent and true wind (speed + direction). I do not have a speed-through-water sensor which is usually necessary to calculate true wind. Instead Airmar sensor provides NMEA messages containing true wind data already calculated. Recently I switched to eS128 display with newest software installed and unfortunately it does not display any true wind data. As I'm aware of some nomenclature issues, I've tried to display Wind over Ground, but this didn't work either. Is it a software bug or does my new eS128 requires different setup compare to previous e97 ? NMEA buffer recording shows $WIMWV (T) message received: (...) $WIMWV,14.7,T,1.3,N,A*15Rx (...)

I am unable to use SonarChart Live features

Please note that the Advance Options menu and SonarChart Live feature requires that:
- the a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD be updated with v17.45 or later a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD software
- a Navionics+, Platinum Plus, or HotMaps Platinum chart card be present within the MFD's memory card reader or within the reader of a compatible networked MFD which has been switched ON and has completed initialization
- If using a Navionics+ Chart card, it has contents have been updated to include Navionics Sonar Charts for the waters to be navigated
- the Navionics+, Platinum Plus, or HotMaps Platinum chart card has been updated with Navionics Freshest Data updates (to include updates to both Nautical Charts and Sonar Charts) after April 1st, 2016 by visiting the Navionics online store
- within the Chart application page/pane in which is being viewed, that the SonarChart Live feature will be executed, the Chart Selection configuration setting must be configured to Navionics Nautical Charts.
- that Sonar Logging be enabled.

Raymarine has received some reports that the Advanced Options menu option is desensitized within the Chart application's menu after having satisfied the criteria listed above. Raymarine is presently working with Navionics to seek a software solution to the reported issue. In the interim, should this problem be encountered, then it is recommended that the following workaround be employed:
chart card feature Navionics Raymarine is presently working with Navionics to seek a software solution to the reported issue. Should this problem be encountered, then is it recommended that
1) the command sequence HOME->MY DATA->EJECT CARD be used to eject the chart card,
2) the chart card be manually ejected when prompted that it is safe to do so.
Note: the chart card need not be fully removed from the MFD's memory card reader. The chart card need only be released from the MFD's memory card reader's locking mechanism by pressing inward on the edge of the card, causing the card to extend from the reader.
3) the chart card be manually inserted into the MFD's memory card reader slot and lock into position within the reader by pressing inward an the edge of the chart card.

ID the screen by picture of cords?

I bought a 2006 28' Sea Ray Sundancer. The boat dealer lost the raymarine screen to what I think may be a 9" screen a series chart plotter fish finder combo. If I find a way to send a picture of the 4 cords (sea talk, etc) that attach to the back of the missing screen could the corresponding screen be identified? I obviously need to buy another one. Thanks, Bob
