[CA11] Replacement of S1G with a Evolution

$

0
I have broken this post out of a previous thread I had (Raymarine forum / Raymarine Forums / Multifunction Displays / [CA11] Upgrades to my 2006 Four Winns ) because it only deals with the autopilot, and is independent of the replacement of the MFD.

To start, my boat is on the hard, shrink wrapped with no access to the engine compartment where the hydrolic pump is. The electronics and Autopilot are part of the original equipment (2006 Four Winns 348) installed by the manufacturer.

Also, in the previous thread, the Moderator identified the existing Autopilot as probably a S1G, with which I concur. The suggestion was that an ACU-150 could be installed as a repllacement for the S1G IF the pump is a TYPE 1.

Reviewing the wiring diagrams for the boat, shows that the circuit breaker for the current AP is a 10 Amp, with 14AWG wiring. Installation instructions for the S1G specifies a 20 Amp circuit breaker with 14AWG wiring. As I understand it, this supplies power to both the S1G module and the pump, with the pump being the largest draw of power.

A Type 1 pump can draw up to 12 Amps, suggesting that the current pump migt be a smaller Type 0.5 pump which draws 7Amps.

Questions:

Q1: Is this a correct assumption?
Q2: Can/should I install a ACU-100 instead of a ACU-150. (potential cost savings)
Q3: If in fact the pump is a Type 0.5, is there harm/downsides in having a ACU-150 driving it?
Q4: If I install an ACU-150, can I continue with the 10Amp CB, or should I upgrade to the 20Amp. This CB has never tripped and the AP has always worked properly.
Q5: If I wait until I open the boat (nice weather and no snow) to purchase the equipment, how do I identify the type of pump. Remember this is 2006 era equipment. I understand that this is probably the best course. It is just a matter of timing.

Thank you in advance for all your help.

[LW11] Changing measurements on Wind and Speed guages

I have read the manual and still can't work out how to change the measurement setting on my gauges. I want to set my depth to metres my wind speed to knots and my SOG to knots.
It has to be an easy process but the manuals were useless in doing this.
I have also tried using the Favourites page also without luck.

[DG11] No SOG

No SOG displayed after start up
I have a ST60+ system with some additions

ST60 Wind speed & direction (2002) (new masthead transducer installed 2014)
ST60 Close hauled (2002)
ST60 Tri-data (2002)
ST6000+ Auto Pilot (2002)
Graphic display (2010)
AIS 500 (2010) with supplied dedicated gps antenna
E90W MFD (2010) with original (2002) Raystar 120 gps* (new battery installed 2018)
Lifetag system (2010)
Radar 4KW 24” radome (2010)

All above were installed by Raymarine main agents in UK

*This gps antenna was originally fitted to the yacht when she was new, and used with an original RL radar/plotter display

Until recently for many years everything worked fine, then after sailing out no SOG on the MFD or anywhere. COG always showing.
I tried restart gps but I do not think that is the problem, and anyway since changing the gps battery the position acquisition is very fast.

I tried switching off the system then on again and eventually (although maybe not as a result of the switch on/off) , the SOG appears.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

[DG11] How do I replace a ST60 Wind with a ST60+ CH Wind display ?

$

The ST60 Wind display packed up recently and the Raymarine agent local to the boat at the time reckoned it was not worth repairing. I searched online and found a ST60+ wind instrument for sale which looked good. I understood from online searches that the ST60+ instruments were compatible and purchased the replacement unit which was boxed & brand new (old unsold stock). However, it turns out to be a ST60+CH (Close Hauled variation) ... I didn't anticipate any difference, but for some reason, the connections on the back are different to the standard ST60+ Wind instrument - there are seatalk connectors but no inputs for the wind information coming from the masthead.

From diagrams I can find online, it looks like I would have been OK with a ST60+ which looks to have the same connections, but for some reason (why!??) the ST60+ CH doesn't have them.

My question is ... is there any way I can make use of this, or should I sell it and look for a ST60+ Wind Instrument. If it's feasible to make it work, what connectors/wiring would I need ?

many thanks,

Aidan.

ps. I've attached a picture of the back of a ST60+ CH , and diagrams of the back of an old ST60 Wind and ST60+ Wind to show what I mean, but I cant seem to include them in the body of the post.

I have a A65 plotter (the classic one) and it has AUX port but I'm not able to find any documentation about it.

What is it? And specially is it capable to work as a VGA input? If so what is the pin layout?

[CA11] Axiom 9 Sounder issues

I am having issues with my sounder losing bottom and acting very strange. It isn't bubble related because it does is at all speeds and didn't do it when first installed. I have done everything suggested in previous posts. Checked the plug in the back of the unit, tilted the transducer to different positions, tried different speeds, put the engine in neutral and increase speed, and there is no marine growth. I captured a video of it acting up with my cell phone and would like to send it to you if that is possible. The video is too large to attach to this post.

Interesting side note. It seems to act up the most in standard sounder mode. If i have 4 screens (chart, sounder, chirp, side vision) all going at the same time,,,,it seems to act fine. I have a video of this as well.

I have a RV 100 Transducer, Axiom 9, and RS 150 GPS Sensor. All updated.

[CA11] New installation multiple power inputs

$

I have searched the forums and could not find a ready answer, so please forgive me if this is old news.

I recently had a Raymarine dealer install a new Evolution autopilot system, a p70 control head, a wheel pilot and an Axiom 9 to my 1995 32' sailboat . Since these were the first modern electronics on the boat (although my existing ST60+ Wind and Tridata instruments were integrated into the new system), the dealer installed both SeaTalkng and NMEA 2000 networks (which were interconnected).

Contrary to what I see in manuals and on these forums, the dealer installation included multiple power supplies to the networks. Fused power circuits were connected to 1) the ST60+ Wind (which was daisy chained to the ST60+ Tridata which was then connected to the Seatalkng backbone through an E22158 converter), 2) to the Seatalkng backbone itself, and 3) to the NMEA 2000 backbone itself.

To experiment, I pulled the fuses for both NMEA 2000 backbone and the ST60+ Wind and everything on the network still apparently works as it should. This seems to verify that I only need ONE power supply for the network (even if it is an interconnected SeaTalkng and NMEA 2000 network) AND the ST60+ instruments also get their power from the network as well.

My questions are:

A) Is there a reason why my dealer/installer would provide multiple power inputs as described?

B) What harm occurs from having multiple power inputs as described?

C) The power input to the NMEA 2000 backbone is an open circuit when the fuse is pulled. Should I pull that power cable off of its backbone connector and replace with a NMEA 2000 terminator?

Thanks!

[CA11] Connect E7d to A75

Hi there,

I’ve got an E7d at my main helm position and am considering getting an A75 to go on the fly bridge.

On the E7d, I’ve got depth, radar, AIS and charts. What would be the easiest way to connect it to the A75 so its a carbon copy of all the features. Can I just get a SeaTalk spur cable and connect to the network port of each device?

I’m really hoping there is an easy way of doing this and I haven’t got to do the added expense of setting up a SeaTalk network.

Any info would be appreciated.

[CA11] Adding refurbished eS98 to existing eS127 network

$

Hi Raymarine,

Please see attached my current marine network wiring for both SeaTalk 1 / SeaTalk NG /NMEA 2000 setup (page 1) as well as current NMEA0198 wiring (page 2).

I am looking at a refurbished eS98 from the Raymarine store. I would add this as a second display next to the existing eS127 MFD display. Here are my questions:

1) What is the simplest way to add the eS98 to this network?

2) Would the eS98 be able to interface with everything the eS127 could interface with?

3) Would the eS127 need to be powered on in order for the eS98 to see anything?

4) Given the existing display is a eSxx7 series and the other one would be an eSxx8 series - I believe that means one is DownVision and the other is CHIRP? Would there be a difference in how the eS127 vs the eS98 interface / display the sonar images from my existing transducer?

Thanks!

[CA11] Choosing the correct MFD

Hello, OK here it is, I am very confused on product selection, I have a 32' center console powered by twin Yamaha's, I have a pair of C120's and am wanting to upgrade to axiom 12 and a new autopilot, one of my C120's tanked on me so am using the other for dedicated radar, what I want in my axiom is 3D real vision, Fish finder, down and side scan, Gps, with charts pre-loaded, and later to add a new radar so compatible for that also, my hull is at 20 degree angle in back so I have been told I need RV 220 pair transducers, is there a single part number that will tell me the Axion I need? Thanks

[CA11] replacing C80 with two E80's Seatalk connection

$

IF the E80 at the helm is connected to all the seatalk instruments (through spliced seatalk 3 wire cable - from the C80 wiring), can I direct connect the nav station E80 to the Helm E80 with the high speed cable seatalk (high speed network cable), and be able to share seatalk data between these two E80 units??

If this is not correct, how do I share the seatalk instrument data between the two E80 units??
Thank you

[CA11] "Current Limit" st6002

$

Hi, I have an st6002, spX10, running a type 1 drive unit, via sprocket & chain on a Lightwave 38 Catamaran
These components have done around 2000 nm. Last time I went engage it, the screen showed auto as it usually does and then in around 30 seconds there was an alarm and the message “current limit”.
I returned to manual operation an looked up the manual to discover that the problem was probably a steering jamb, or a drive unit fault. Since the steering was as free as it has always been, I removed the drive unit and took off the cover. I discovered that all the screws were quite loose and in fact the whole electric clutch mount was very loose. I then split the gearbox case and a small cap screw fell out (the one from the clutch mount). I then reassembled the unit using thread-lock to try to avoid the problem occurring again.
When I retried using auto again I got the same message.
I then isolated the rudder reference unit to see if that had anything to do with it but no luck, same message.
I then disconnected the wiring to the drive unit, same message.
I’m stumped. I get a message saying current limit when there is no current being used. Do i have to somehow clear the code or do a reset to get it all back up & running again?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Trevor

Autopilot control head reports Current Limit

Autopilot control head reports Current Limit

The reported message is indicating that the autopilot course computer is sensing too much current draw from the drive unit. Causes for this condition may include one or more of the following:
- a problem with the vessel's steering system ... check for freedom of movement
- rudder limit setting has not been properly configured, causing the drive unit to move the rudder to its stops or mechanical drive unit to be fully extracted / retracted. This value must not exceed 30 degrees and should be configured to 4 degrees less than the minimum rudder angle indicated by the rudder bar feature when the rudder is moved fully to port or starboard by the wheel or tiller.
- rudder reference transducer / calibration failure causing the autopilot course computer to incorrectly sense the amount of rudder deflection. When this occurs, the drive unit may move the rudder to its stops or mechanical drive unit to be fully extracted / retracted. Test the rudder reference transducer and calibrate the rudder reference transducer.
- a drive unit which is in need of servicing / drive unit failure. Please click here to view a FAQ addressing how to test the drive unit to include its clutch (mechanical drives). Should a problem be identified, then the drive unit should be sent to Raymarine’s Product Repair Center to be bench checked / serviced.
- use of an undersized drive unit and/or course computer for the size of the vessel, steering ram, and/or condition of the seas being operated ... upgrade the drive unit and course computer / ACU.
- failing autopilot course computer or ACU ... send the autopilot course computer to - a problem with the vessel's steering system ... Raymarine’s Product Repair Center to be bench checked / serviced.

What’s up everyone? So I have a axiom 9 rv with the rv transducer on the boat, i also just bought the quantum radar and I’m looking to purchase another axiom but I would like to know if it’s possible to get. a sonar module for them and if I can get a 1kw transducer even if I connect it just to one axiom? Thanks in advance

[CA11] upgrading E120

Need help with upgrade from E120/DSM300/B744 to Axiom Pro 12. I will be keeping my S3G course computer and ST8002 autopilot head. My deadrise is about 12 degrees. Currently, I have 2x 2" round depth/temp transducers in addition to the B744. I cruise at 8 kts and troll at 2 kts. I want to use round transducers to minimize through hull modification. B175 will be easier to install than B260 or RV212 transducers.

1) Will B175 work well for my application?

1) I want to use 2 Axiom Pro 12 with low and high freq 1KW Chirp B175 transducers. Which Axiom model is more suitable? Axiom PRO 12S or Axiom Pro 12RVX? Is it better to connect one transducer to each axiom unit or using a connector for the two transducers? What other cables and/or adaptors are required? Run from transducer to MFD is about 20'.

2) Can I connect the S3G and ST8002 using the Seatalk1 to SeatalkNG adapter kit?

Thank you.
Charles.

[CA11] Auto Pilot pump location

I have a 27 Boston Whaler with twin Mercury Verado's. I want to install the EV-200 and know that the A18127 hose kit is recommended. Given the extreme close quarters under the helm of the BW, the pump and other components will need to be mounted a greater distance than the kit would allow. Two questions: 1. Is there any issue with locating the pump further away (Max 8 feet), from the helm. 2. Can you tell me the hose specs so I can get custom hoses made up (hose ID/OD, thread size and type, Hose pressure spec)? Thank you!! Dan
