AIS 500 fault message while transmitting on VHF

I have a new Axiom Pro 12 interfaced with an old Raymarine AIS 500 unit and a new ICOM M506 VHF. All work fine except when I transmit on the VHF I receive a warning on the Axiom "External AIS unit fault:Tx malfunction".

Sometimes I will get a VSWR fault message. I have checked the VSWR and it is good. The VHF and the AIS all work properly. The messages do not seem to correspond to anything not actually working, and are more of a nuisance than anything.

Is this something to do with using the old AIS 500 when I upgraded, or maybe I have something not configured properly? Thanks for any explanation.

“No Pilot” alarm

I have just finished installing the autopilot and am getting No Pilot alarm.
The EV1 light turns red when in alarm for a few seconds the green for a couple seconds then back into red and alarm for a few seconds.
The ACU 150 maintains a solid green light at all times.
ACU150 - New
EV1 - Used
P70r - Used
Type 1 drive - New
MFD is Gs165

I have checked 12v connections, ACU150 to seatalk connections, Seatalkng bus is all good with ends terminated with the blue plugs and all connections to it are solid.

Anyone have any ideas??

Thanks

adding I70s to existing network for transducer compensations

$

I currently have a network consisting of an A95 mfd, ST602 autohelm connected to an SPX5, an I60 wind, and am using a ITC-5 for the depth and speed transducer connections. I want to add an I70s to the network so that I can do compensations on the depth and speed as the A95 will not allow this. The 5 way connector is full and I want to know if it would be better to daisy chain the new instrument off the I60, or add a "T" into the network to handle the I70s. OR---RR is there some other way to do compensations on the depth and apeed ?

[CA11] Display of Theyr GRIB files in eS127 MFD

I just subscribed to Theyr weather through charts.raymarine.com and then attempted to download and view them using the GRIB Viewer application in Lighthouse II.

When I open the files, instead of showing the wind, temp, wave detail I was expecting it instead showed just a single (incorrect) value / color. I have attached both pictures of the display when the various GRIB files were opened.

I also attempted to attach the actual .grb files themselves to this post, but I received a message saying "The type of file that you attached is not allowed. Please remove the attachment or choose a different type"

Could you please let me know if I am doing something wrong, or if there is some other issue?

Thanks!

While disconnecting my old 4000 control head to install my new Evo I noticed that the blue and brown drive wires were reversed on their terminals. The pilot always worked fine.
Question is 1.why? 2. might I have to reverse them on my new wheel pilot?

[CA11] i60 wind to Seatalk1

Have an set of ST60+ instruments all seatalked1 together. The Wind instrument has died (yes I ran volt checks and Masthead seems ok). Since the ST60+ does not seem to be supported/repairable at this point I am getting an i60 Wind. Is this a plug and play if I get the right cable or do I need a black box of some sort to make it play nice on the old network? I am guessing all I really lose if I don't integrate it at all is wind vane mode on the autopilot. There are no repeaters.
Thanks

[CA11] Replace ST8001 with p70RS control head

$

I see in the autopilot FAQ the thread "Can the p70/p70R/p70S/p70RS Autopilot Control Heads be used with older autopilots?" that the p70RS can be used with the S3G autopilot computer.

I have two follow-up questions:

1) I would be looking to replace the ST8001 control head with a p70R control head. Where can I found the cutout dimensions for the ST8001 vs the p70RS so I know if the newer p70RS control head will fit in the [censored] that was previously cut in the dash panel for the ST8001? If it turns out the p70RS is smaller - is there any adapter piece available so that there is not a [censored] in my dash?

2) I have attached a network diagram of my current setup. As you can see I already have a D244 SeaTalk Junction. It looks like in the FAQ referenced above this junction would make the connection between the S3G computer and p70RS controller. Could I use the existing D244 junction, or would I have to add a second D244 junction? On the D229 cable that currently connects the S3G to the p70RS would I leave the red cable connected to the autopilot computer?

Thank you your help is always appreciated!

[CA11] Chart zoom scale memory

$

The latest release of LHIII (3.7) claims to have fixed the bug wherein returning to a chart from a settings dialog restores the zoom level. While 3.7 is better than 3.6 in this respect, it does not fix all instances. For example, from the chart app going the Targets>AIS and changing a setting, returning will still put you at nearly a global zoom level.

[CA11] Pinch-to-zoom feature request

$

The LH3 UI includes the two finger gesture pinch-to-zoom which is familiar to most cell phone users. It has an annoying side effect: once zoomed, the display is taken out of the moving map mode and into the fixed map moving boat mode. The zooming action also causes a display mode change.

I have other moving map applications on a number of vehicles, boats, and aircraft. In my opinion a far better UI is to return to a moving map mode after the scale change, unless there is also a large pan move. In other words, if I pinch to zoom but keep my fingers in roughly the same location on the screen, it performs a zoom but no movement mode change. In the case of the chart app, I would do this with a dead band around the My Boat icon.

So for example: to zoom in, I pinch to zoom near the boat icon, display zooms but leaves the display in moving map mode and the boat centered (or offset depending on settings). The assumption is that I just want a chart scale change, and nothing more. If instead I pinch to zoom in a location away from the boat, the assumption would be I am interested in that specific location, it could shift to fixed map mode and center the zoom on the location of the pinch initiation. This is how the friendlier map applications work. On the Axiom, I fear I will wear out the location on the screen which is the return to boat centered icon, as I have to hit it so often.

Along with this, keep the chart in moving map mode when I touch (but do not drag) anywhere else. The UI requires a short or long touch in many instances, to get a range, to access an AIS target, etc. You do that a lot in LH3. Each time I do, it takes the chart app out of moving map mode. Each time I have to hit the return to center icon. The glass is getting thin there :). If I want a pan, I'll drag. Again a small dead band, because in lumpy seas you are going to be moving your finger a little like it or not.

The final refinement would be to remember the zoom level when I hit the return to center icon. For example, I touch and drag to see a different area on the chart. This automatically reveals the return to center icon. I then pinch to zoom (or +/-) to further see what I am interested in, place a waypoint, etc. When I touch the return to center icon I am returned to the boat's location, AND the zoom as it was before. I am done with what I was looking at, just want to go back. This is much more in keeping with how the chart application is used. It separates zooming and panning from display travel modes which are now confused.

I'd be happy to talk to someone about this and demonstrate (on another application) how well it works.

[DG11] Integrating E85001 into Stng

Hi

I have installed a new Evolution Autopilot with ACU400 that powers the backbone. I have connected the E85001 Seatalk side to the STNG using the Converter cable (E22158) with bare wires Yellow and Shield. On the other side of the NMEA bridge I have connected the R,Y, Sh from the Seatalk netowork, with the red connected to a fused power source. All the NMEA instruments are displaying data and passing this to the P70 Control head.
On the NMEA outputs I have a VHF and Navtes receiver connected but there is no data passing from NMEA to NMEA0183 and the LED lights are dead. The testing protocol on the Forum is a little confusing, there was no voltage between Yellow and Shields, does that mean it is faulty or are there other diagnostics/reasons for this not firing up.

I have added an axiom into my n2k system which has a Maretron WSO100 weather station. The Axiom is my only MFD and I need to enable some of the PGN's coming from the WSO100 as well as adjust the offset calibration for my DST150 triducer.
Can this be done with the Axiom?

Thanks

[CA11] NMEA 0183 from Axiom

I have just upgraded my MDF from an e80 to an Axiom 9. I also installed a AIS 700. All features seem to be working fine and talking to each other at this time. I need to find an output of NEMA 0183 to get GPS data to my iCom IC-M504 VHF to hhave the DSC on the radio work. I see that there are outputs on the AIS700 for this but the manual also says that these leads are intended for diagnostic purposes only. It there a way to come off the Seatalk backbone or the SeatalkHF?

Thannk you

[CA11] AIS 700 operating manual

$

I'm in the market for an AIS system. On the Raymarine website, you can download the installation instructions for the AIS 700 but I can't find an operating manual anywhere. I'd like to read this to see whether the AIS 700 would be suitable for my needs. Would anybody know where I might get the operating manual? Also, could anyone tell me what kind of alarm(s) the system supports. My C series chart plotter (from 2011) sits at the back of the cockpit and I'm wondering what kind of AIS alarm could be set up to be heard in the saloon, while I'm resting (primarily a solo sailor)?
Thanks

[CA11] Autopilot enhancement

For my 2004 sailing boat SIRIUS (a SunFast 32i by Jeanneau) I am currently considering the replacement of the ST4000 pilot by a new EV-200 pilot.

The new configuration should (perhaps…?) include
(as shown on my preliminary System Diagram):
- p70 indicator
- EV-1 sensor
- ACU 200 computer
- linear drive Type 1
- (if mandatorily required) bar angle indicator
in addition to the existing :
- RC435 GPS
- ST60 Wind
- ST60 Tridata
and…
- ST100 remote controler.

In addition to an indulgent and caring look to my preliminary diagram
I would appreciate your advice and answers to some pending questions :

Q1> will my ST100 remote controler (being left connected to the ST1 network together with the two ST60) allow an effective control of the new ACU200/p70 ?
- even if connected through a ST1<->STng converter (E22158) ?
- even if a note on page 13 § 2.3 of the EV-1 installation notice indicates « limited functionnality »… what kind ?

Q2.1> where could I find explanations about driving clutch ?
use and implementation : shoul I plan the installation of a particular switch to be connected on the ACU200 ( 2 points output #7 on the connexions view p25).

Q2.2> same questionabout sleep function ?
use and implementation : : shoul I plan the installation of a particular switch to be connected on the ACU200 ( 2 points output #2 on the connexions view p25).

Voyage Planner Replacement

I would like to be able to use a laptop to plan routes that I can later upload to my Axiom MFD. I understand that Raymarine Voyage Planner software is no longer being produced or supported. I know that there is still available inventory of Voyage Planner software from retail vendors. Trying to decide if I should invest in software that is no longer being supported. The risk in using end-of-life software is that it may not be compatible with future computer operating system security patches or upgrades. Are there any plans for a new PC navigation program that will work with Raymarine MFDs and Navionics?

I have an Icom M400-BB VHF that I want to connect to my Axiom9 so the radio will share the GPS information. The Icom radio has two wires one is marked connect to NMEA out negative line of a GPS receiver, the other is marked connect to NMEA out positive line of a GPS receiver. The wires are bare ended no connector is attached. How do I connect the two units together and what parts do I need? Any help will be appreciated.

[CA11] Selecting units not possible after sw update

I have St60+ instruments and ST60 Multi as first instrument. I also have A95 plotter.
I need to meassure dept in meter, and speed in knots and wind in m/s.
After having updated instruments to latest sw, all instruments now shows dept in feet and temperature in F.. When trying to change on A95 I choose meter, but the instrument pop back to feet after some seconds. The same happens on ST60+. I therefore assumed that the ST60 was master and tried on that. However on the User Calibration - the screen with units is newer shown. Should be the screen afger time offset - "temperature" (Units). But that screen newer show.
How do I now get the units changed???
