[CA11] Upgrade autopilot

$

It´s finally time to upgrade my system from 2007 with a new autopilot.
In the present system is an S3 and an C80 the main objects and I'm now planning on changing to an ACU 200+EV1.
So my question is how to merge my old Seatalk items with the new ACU?
I've attached two wiring schemes, the present and the planned. Is this set up going to work?
Does the information from GPS, Wind and Speed get thru in this set up?

I have an L760 with a bad Seatalk GPS antenna. I have a Garmin NMEA 0183 GPS antenna that I'd like to retrofit with the available NMEA port.

Is there a schematic or thread available to help me in this endeavor?

Thanks in Advance

[CA11] C120 software update

I am trying to update my software from 2009. I received two CF cards from Raymarine but neither will give me the software change screens when I start my machine. I was able to back up my files to the card so I believe it is reading and writing to the card. Is there another way to get the installation screens? Should I try to restore to factory settings or something.

[CA11] Can I connect two 5 way connectors (A06031) using a spur cable?

I just bought a complete system for my sailboat and I'm in the process of installing it.

(es75 + ev200 AP+ i70s system pack)

I planned the connections and cables necessary but was surprised by the fact that the i70s display and the autopilot display only have ONE conection each. I always seem this type of displays with two conections to be dayse chained.

Long story short. I had to use one 5 way connector on the cockpit and another 5 way connector on the engine room. But I only have one SPUR cable left, long enough, to connect them.

Is this acceptable? Can I connect two 5 way connectors using only a spur cable?

I'm using the 3 white ports on the cockpit 5 way connector, 2 to the displays, one going down below. The 2 blue ports are plugged with terminators.

On the bellow deck 5 way connector I have all the ports being used.

I know the quick answer is go buy a backbone cable, but this things don't come by easy over here.

Thanks a lot!

[DG] ST4000 interface w RC425

Hi Im trying to get my ST4000 to steer to waypoints etc from my RC425. I have the green wire off the 425 into the NMEA -ve and the white wire into the NMEA +ve
When I try to enter track mode by pressing the Auto key and then +10 and -10 for three seconds, the pilot does not scroll through three displays as indicated, nor does it show any error display. It does appear to adjust course, however I need to double check that. Thank you.

Hi I have an old Autohelm 1000 that I would like to interface with my RC425 chartplotter. I see it has a four pin outlet at the back, which I think is a Seatalk. Do I really need the interface box or is NMEA 0183 coming out of there? If you could provide me with a plug or the schematic of the pins I would appreciate it.
On a side note, I received tech support from "Underway" once in the past for my X5 and he was a lifesaver. Thanks.

Can a spur cable be used to join two SeaTalkng 5-Way Connectors?

Can a spur cable be used to join two SeaTalkng 5-Way Connectors?

It is not permissible to join two SeaTalkng 5-Way Connectors to one another via a SeaTalkng Spur Cable. As part of a powered and properly terminated SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone, SeaTalkng 5-Way Connectors, T-Pieces, Inline Terminators, SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converters, and iTC-5 Analog Instrument Transducer Converters must be interfaced to one another via appropriate lengths of SeaTalkng Backbone Cable. The backbone should be powered from a single spur which located at the approximate midpoint of the backbone's LEN load. It is considered to be a best practice that the backbone be powered using a SeaTalkng Power Cable (rather than an autopilot ACU or course computer) which in turn has been connected to a switched and preferably dedicated 12 VDC power circuit.

The back of the Garmin has a four plug pin, and transmits NMEA 0183 there is data in (white) and data out (brown).
How should I connect these to the Autohelm control head?
I see that the Seatalk part has seven pins. I would like to use them since I have wind instruments and the ST1000 as a backup Autopilot. Thank you.

[CA11] GPS from Horizon GX2200B to C120

Hi,
This has probably been addressed before. I have a used C120 Legacy chartplotter I acquired with just a power cable. It is powered up. I purchased and installed a Horizon GX2200B AIS receiver so I could get GPS to the C120. IS there a specific cable I can buy that plugs into the NMEA port on the C120 to wire into the NMEA IN/OUT wires from the radio. If so, would I hook NEMA out on the C120 to OUT from the radio or IN ?
Thank you,

[CA11] LH3 logging and exporting of log file

Dear Raymarine devs,

I would like to suggest adding the following features with the goal to export the data for offline race sailing performance analysis:
1. Logging of NMEA sensor + GPS data over extended period of time (couple of hours to 2 days)
I have seen a similar request (from july 2017) for diagnostic purpose but I suppose that usage is somewhat limited in time:
http://forum.raymarine.com/showthread.php?tid=3646

2. Possibility to log all NEMA messages or decimated/filltered rates of 0.1s, 1s or 10s
3. Downloading of log file to portable device via SD card or preferably through Wifi or Bluetooth after race.
4. Finally bidirectional NEMA to WIFI gateway to enable realtime logging directly on PC using CAN file format. This will allow a software to provide realtime performance analysis by comparing current sensor data to polar data.

I am aware that devices allowing these features exist on the market but on a small sail boat with a small battery and limited budget having these features in the axiom 7 will be extremly usefull!

Thank you!

[CA11] Random Route Waypoint Names

HI I am trying to use VoyagePlanner to create some routes and then transfer them to my axiom 9.

I can create the routes all ok.
I can name the route and all the waypoints along the route.

I then export out as a GPX file ( I have tried Standard and Raymarine MFD Extension GPX)

When the GPX file imports the route name is ok - but all the route waypoints come in with long random string names.

If i look at the GPX file in a text editor the route waypoint names are correct as per how i had named them in VoyagePlanner

Any ideas what may be wrong or how to fix this ?

[CA11] Axiom AIS display and limits.

We recently used an Axiom plotter in the Dutch Canal network, which is extremely busy. At times with over 400 targets were being received and shown on PC software, which as mentioned in the previous thread results in the targets being truncated to the nearest 100. This means that sometimes the furthest vessel is actually quite close.

Travelling in company with other boats, we were using the buddy feature. This becomes almost useless in such circumstances, since the software gives no priority to boats selected as buddies. The result is they disappear from the screen when they are further than the 100th furthest other vessel.

It would be very useful to be able to have ships selected as buddies visible whenever they are in reception range regardless of other filtering. It would also be useful to be able to see a list of only vessels that are selected as buddies, so you don't have to scroll through 100 other ships to see if they are within range or not.

One other slight criticism of the AIS display apart from the number of ships limit, is that when there is a break in reception from a Class B target (common due to weaker transmission power, slower transmission rate, traffic/sea state etc), the target indicator disappears from the screen very quickly (within a few minutes) with no indication that reception has been lost. It would be useful to have the target remain for a longer period, with some way of indicating the data is stale - greyed out, or struck through or something similar.

[CA11] Quantum connection problem

A month ago, I received my Quantum back from repair. Currently I am using a Axiom RV7 and an Axiom 9 connected by the HS5 switch. The radar is also connected to the switch. The radar connects perfectly using WiFi but I want to connect it using the data cable. However, I cannot get either Axiom to recognize the radar when I disable the WiFi. I'm on shore power with about 13.5V and I have the radar on a separate power circuit. When everything is powered up, I bring up the Radar last. I also try to power cycle it several times but I still cannot get the Axiom to recognized the scanner. I switch out the data cable in case it was bad but that didn't help. No amount of power cycling seems to help. Supposedly when it was repaired, it tested fine on the WiFi and data connections. I even tried connecting the data cable directly to one of the Axiom but that had no effect. Also, I am running the latest software issue in July of 2018.
Any suggestions?

[CA11] nmea to seatalkng

I currently have the following set up which has been partially upgraded over the years.

1. a97 - replaced my E80 at the helm when the screen backlight failed
2. ST70 mfd - this is at the nav station
3. i70s - this replaced another ST70 at the helm
4. p70 - auto pilot control head at the helm
5. EV-1, ACU 400 and rudder reference. these replaced an old Simrad AC 20
6. Raymarine wind indicator and converter pod
7. Airmar depth transducer and converter pod
8. Airmar speed/temp transducer and converter pod
9. Raymarine GPS
10. Raymarine digital radar
11. Raymarine AIS A
12. Raymarine Ray240 VHF

My plan is to replace the Ray240 and AIS with an Icom M506 with integrated AIS

I need to know the best way to network this into my Seatalkng back bone.

Can I simply plug the NMEA converter cable into the ST70 at the nav station and enable the system to receive the ais information on the a97

[DG] ST2000+ lead screw bearings question.

$

Can someone please tell me how many 5/64" ball bearings are used in the drive nut/lead screw assembly? I couldn't find any info pertaining to this in the service manual.

During the disassembly process i needlessly removed the lead screw from the ram tube, allowing a cascade of tiny ball bearings to spill out, hence my question. I plan to replace the original steel ones with ceramics.

The pilot failed when the lead screw ball bearing lost it's metal bearing shield which chewed out the retaining lip in the plastic bearing holder, allowing the bearing to slip out towards the ram tube, giving the lead screw almost an inch of end play, and rendering the pilot useless.

I've modified the bearing holder so that the new bearing is now sandwiched between the existing metal plate and a second plate that I added to the other side of the bearing holder, with the two plates bolted together. A plastic washer takes up the space left by the destroyed lip to eliminate end play.

Thanks for any help offered!

If there is a FAQ thread on how to properly connect multiple Axiom9 MFD's in a system, can you please point me to it? If a FAQ does not exist, can you please provide guidance on how to do so?

Can I simply connect each Axiom using a devicenet-STng spur cable into my STNG backbone and then give each Axiom a 12v power supply? Or is there an alternate way to do it.

Thanks

Dave

Lighthouse 3 v 3.3.170

Hey folks

Having recently upgraded to Lighthouse 3 on my es98 I have discovered that it makes the unit incompatible with my autopilot which is annoying.

What is really annoying however is that despite asurances to the contrary I cannot currently downgrade it. The instructions posted state that I first have to downgrade to the titles version of 3 (namely 3 v3.3.170).

Does anybody either

1. Have a copy of the above version they can share with me so I can follow the full instructions

Or

2. Know of another way to downgrade the software back to lighthouse 2?

Thanks in advance all!

James
