Replacing an C-Series Widescreen MFD(s) with an Axiom MFD(s) or Axiom Pro MFD(s)
Please note that the Axiom MFDs and Axiom Pro MFDs may not be installed within an Ethernet (SeaTalkhs/RayNet) network which additionally includes C-Series Widescreen MFDs. As such, should the current system presently feature more than one C-Series Widescreen MFD, then both of the C-Series Widescreen MFDs will need to be replaced with Axiom or Axiom Pro MFDs. Raymarine’s Axiom and Axiom Pro MFDs may be mixed or matched in any combination within an Ethernet network. The Axiom and Axiom Pro MFDs are designed to share all system data with one another via the Ethernet network to which they will be interfaced.
MOUNTING: Raymarine offers the following adapter plates to replace flush mounted C/E-Series Widescreen MFDs with Axiom Pro MFDs:
• A80530 (C90W/E90W to Axiom Pro 9)
• A80531 (C120W/E120W to Axiom Pro 12)
• A80533 (C140W/E140W to Axiom Pro 16)
Raymarine does not presently offer adapter mounting kits to replace flush mounted C/E-Series Widescreen MFDs with an Axiom MFDs.
POWER: The currently installed C/E-Series Widescreen MFD Power/Data/Video Input Cable will need to be replaced with the Power Cable or Power/NMEA 0183/Video Input Cable supplied with the Axiom MFD or Axiom Pro MFD.
ETHERNET: Unlike C-Series Widescreen MFDs which feature a pair of Ethernet communications interaces, Axiom and Axiom Pro MFDs feature a single Ethernet communications interface. Accordingly, should each of the C-Series Widescreen MFD's interfaces currently be interfaced to another device having an Ethernet communications interface, then it would be necessary to install a HS5 RayNet Network Switch and then interface these devices to the HS5 RayNet Network Switch. However, should the C-Series Widescreen MFD(s) currently be interfaced to only one other device having an Ethernet communications interface, then the Axiom or Axiom Pro MFD replacing the C-Series Widescreen MFD(s) may be adapted to use the currently installed SeaTalkhs Cable by using an A80160 SeaTalkhs (F) to RayNet (F) Adapter.

SEATALK: Please click here to view a FAQ addressing how to interface products having a SeaTalk interface to a SeaTalkng backbone, to which the Data Master Axiom MFD or Data Master Axiom Pro MFD will also be interfaced.
EXTERNAL ALARM: Axiom MFDs and Axiom Pro MFDs do not feature support for sounding an external alarm. Should an alarm from the system need to be heard in a remote location (ex. stateroom), then it would be recommended that the relatively low priced Axiom 7 MFD be installed in that location. By installing a MFD in the remote location, the responder will not only be aware that an alarm was generated and be able to squelch the alarm, but the operator will also have access to information concerning the nature of the alarm.
NMEA 0183: The NMEA 0183 leads of any NMEA 0183 devices which are presently interfaced to the C-Series Widescreen MFD's Power/Data/Video Input Cable will need to be disconnected from this cable and will instead be spliced to the corresponding leads of an Axiom Pro MFD's MFD's Power/NMEA 0183/Video Input Cable. As the Axom MFDs do not feature a NMEA 0183 port, should the system not feature an Axiom Pro MFD, then it will instead be necessary to interface the NMEA 0183 device(s) to a powered and properly terminated SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 backbone to which the Data Master Axiom MFD has been interfaced as a spur. NMEA 0183 to SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 data bridging devices (ex. Actisense NGW-1-STNG, Actisense NGW-1-AIS, etc.) are available from third parties to support interfacing NMEA 0183 devices to systems featuring Axiom MFDs or Axiom Pro MFDs. Raymarine also offers the VHF NMEA 0183 to STng Converter Kit to support the needs of those simply needing to provide a VHF radio or SSB with GPS position data.
SEATALKNG/NMEA 2000: The SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 communications interface of Axiom MFDs and Axiom Pro MFDs feature a DeviceNet (M) socket. Should the Data Master C-Series Widescreen MFD be interfaced as a spur to SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 backbone, then the Data Master Axiom MFD or Data Master Axiom Pro MFD may be interfaced to the SeaTalkng backbone via a SeaTalkng to DeviceNet Female adapter cable (A06045).
Satellite Weather/Radio: The initial release of LightHouse 3 software for Axiom MFDs did not include support for SiriusXM Satellite Weather/Radio. The LightHouse v3.3.170 software update added support for SiriusXM Satellite weather for Axiom MFDs which have been interfaced via Ethernet communications to a SR150 SiriusXM Satellite Weather/Radio Receiver. Legacy SiriusXM Satellite Weather/Radio Receivers will not be compatible Axiom MFDs. A future LightHouse 3 software update may add support for SiriusXM Satellite Radio features to Axiom MFDs which have been interfaced via Ethernet communications to a SR150 SiriusXM Satellite Weather/Radio Receiver.
Video Input: Both Axiom and Axiom Pro MFDs support integration with compatible IP cameras. The C-Series Widescreen MFDs support video input from a single analog NTSC/PAL video source. Raymarine's Axiom Pro MFDs feature a communications interface supporting video input from a single analog NTSC/PAL video source via the MFD's Power/NMEA 0183/Video Input Cable. Axiom MFD do not feature a communications interface supporting analog video input. However, it is possible to encode analog NTSC/PAL video to stream it to the MFD(s) via Ethernet communications ... please click here to view a FAQ addressing this subject.
Thermal Camera: The C-Series Widescreen MFDs did not support displaying video from and controlling compatible FLIR and Raymarine branded thermal cameras from the MFD. Should a compatible Raymarine or FLIR branded thermal camera outputting NTSC/PAL video need to be added to the system, then it would be recommended that the new system feature an Axiom Pro MFD(s) if the MFD will be interfaced to FLIR M-Series or MD-Series Thermal Cameras. The video output of the thermal camera would then be interfaced to the video input socket of the Axiom Pro MFD's Power/NMEA 0183/Video Input Cable. Should the system exclusively feature Axiom MFDs, then it would typically be recommended that a FLIR M132 or M232 Thermal Camera be installed. Alternatively, the video from the thermal camera may be encoded to be displayed on the Axiom MFDs. However, should the system not feature an Axiom Pro MFD, then it would be necessary to interface a Joystick Controller Unit (JCU) to the system to control the thermal camera.
Video Output: Please click here to view a FAQ addressing how to repeat the MFD’s screen image on a TV.
FISHFINDER(s): Axiom DV MFDs, Axiom RV MFDs, Axiom Pro S, and Axiom Pro RVX MFDs each feature internal fishfinder circuitry. As all system resources are shared within a network of Axiom MFDs and Axiom Pro MFDs, only one device (MFD or compatible sounder module) having the desired type of fishfinder sonar (RealVison3D, DownVision, SideVision, High CHIRP Conical, 1kW CHIRP, etc.) need be interfaced to the system. This means that only one, or possibly none, of the MFDs within the system need to have internal fishfinder sonar circuitry. When interfaced to a compatible transducer, and/or to another Axiom MFD or Axiom Pro MFD which has been interfaced to a compatible transducer, and/or to a CP100, CP200, CP370, CP450, or CP570 Fishfinder Sounder Module, which in turn has been interfaced to a compatible transducer the Axiom Pro MFD (as well as the other Axiom MFDs and Axiom Pro MFDs which have been interfaced to it) will support the corresponding finder sonar features. Axiom and Axiom Pro MFDs are not compatible with the DSM30, DSM300, CP300, or CP450C. It is recommended that transducers which had been interfaced to these products be interfaced to a CP370, CP470/CP570, or to an Axiom or Axiom Pro MFD having compatible internal fishfinder circuitry.
PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION: While the replacement of this equipment is well within the capabilities of those familiar with marine electronics equipment installation, there will be some cable splicing and cable chasing required.
