Latter software releases for the A/C/E-Series Classic MFDs, C/E-Series Widescreen MFDs, and GPM400 added the Autopilot Control feature to these MFDs. The Autopilot Control feature permitted the MFD to command a compatible Raymarine autopilot into Auto, Track, or Standby modes. Raymarine's a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs additionally include support for the Autopilot Control feature. The Autopilot Control feature of the a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs additionally support Dodge commands (+/-1 & +/-10 heading changes) as well as autopilot set-up capability for Raymarine Evolution autopilots. Please note that the Autopilot Control feature of Raymarine MFDs is exclusively supported in conjunction with compatible Raymarine autopilots which have been interfaced to the MFD via SeaTalk or SeaTalkng communications protocol. Raymarine's Autopilot Control feature is not compatible with third party autopilots. Raymarine's Autopilot Control feature is additionally not compatible with Raymarine autopilots which have been interfaced to the Raymarine system via NMEA 0183 communications protocol. When one of the above listed MFDs operating with the latest available software has been interfaced to a Raymarine autopilot via NMEA 0183 communications protocol or to compatible third party autopilots, it may be possible to have the autopilot track to a waypoint or follow a route. However, control of the autopilot with respect to commanding the autopilot into Auto, Track, and Standby modes must be accomplished via the autopilot's control head.
Raymarine MFD software which supports the Autopilot Control feature also includes a PILOT (autopilot) icon included within the Transducer Status data item displayed within the MFD's Databar. A red X will be superimposed over this icon when any of the following conditions exist:
- the Autopilot Control feature has been configured OFF (A/C/E-Series Classic MFDs, C/E-Series Widescreen MFDs, and GPM400)
- a third party autopilot has been interfaced to the Raymarine system
- a Raymarine autopilot has been interfaced to the Raymarine system via NMEA 0183 communications protocol
- an incompatible Raymarine autopilot has been interfaced to the Raymarine system
- communications between a compatible Raymarine autopilot and the MFD is not occurring ... it is recommended that troubleshooting begin with verification that the SeaTalkng backbone and autopilot have both been powered ON.
